United States of America Nailing 'EM to the Barn Door! FDR Fights GOP Lies, 1940s, Art by M.A. Dunning
Image that shows President Franklin D. Roosevelt as hunter that is slaying hysteria and falsehoods from the GOP. During his administration, FDR was the subject to intense political attack from the media and the GOP. During the 1930s and 40s the vast majority of major American newspapers were owned by wealthy, conservative publishers who viewed the New Deal as hostile to big business.
In a 1936 speech, Roosevelt leaned into the hostility from his wealthy critics, famously stating "They are unanimous in their hate for me - and I welcome their hatred"
