Official Announcement Looking for new moderator(s)

Hi all,

I'm looking for assistance with community engagement and queue clean up so would like to on-board one or two moderators.

I'm not looking for someone to take over the sub or reinvent things if those would be your ambition (although if you want to improve the subreddit wiki content or the monthly posts, be my guest).

If after reviewing our moderation guidelines and rules, you are interested in helping out, please let me know.

If you have previous moderation experience, that's great, but not strictly necessary if you understand Reddit well and have been on the site for a while. I'm not looking to mentor baby mods at this time, so if you have no clue what a mod queue is, this might not be for you.

The Anti-AI/Spam bots handle most of the big ticket items so this should be a fairly light load.

Discussion Hard polytheism encompassing Hellenism and Norse and Egyptian religion?

Hi there, I wonder in how far it is possible to be an "agnostic hard polytheist" i.e my own pantheon of gods would include hellenistic, norse and egyptian deities while still considering them distinct beings, because at the end of the day I cannot know for sure if they are distinct or just the same beings under different names. Hence in my eyes it makes more sense to stick to treating them as separate, just in case. I have been following Christianity for some time now, but I am generally a person who likes to explore and jump around between faiths a bit. I haven't truly found my spiritual home yet I feel.

To me, I feel like if I view Hellenism as my religion, i.e a polytheistic religion, than I have to accept or include other polytheistic religions as well into the pantheon. Because if not, then it would feel like Hellenism would try to claim it's the "one true religion", which afaik, it does not.

The only thing of friction is of course how to reconcile all the different ideas and concepts, especially concerning the afterlife. I guess that's why the "agnostic" term is so important to me because I feel like trying to reconcile everything would just drive me mad. Any advice on this?

Question Есть ли практики, которые работают с адыгских (черкесским) пантеоном?

Upvotes

Question Do you ever feel like Polyathiestim is misjudged or misunderstood? Or people are just too rude to polyathiests?

I'm agnostic so this is a question I see all the time and I also had this same question. Whenever people talk about Polyathiestism it's mainly just bullying. Nobody really tries to understand the complexity of Polyathiestism. As I try to learn about different religions I also see how people judge Polyathiest religions based of their previous biasedness. It's less about how this certain Polyathiest religions function and more about the how close these religions are to their monoethiestic religions. They don't judge the religion completely unbiased. They infact judge it through their monoethiestic views. These are judged less by resources and logic and more by 'my monoathiestic religion said so'. On top of that most religions people are monoethiestic so them bullying and pushing narratives is seen more. Monoethiests don't agree with eatchother and think others will burn in hell in worst case senerios but then they'll push every bit of their differences away and be united against polyathiestism. They say "it just doesn't make sense!" But their idea of sense is only biased to their religion. They are not trying to find polyathiest religions that make sense to them rather it's more like "it's just not close to my religion". The theologies that Polytheiests believe are reasonable to me. I might not belive in anything but I still understand what they are saying. Well your experience?

Support request Hellenic Polytheistic

Hiii my name is Leyre (spa/eng) and I’ve been working with Hellenic Goddesses for a few years now: Aphrodite and Hecate.
I also practice witchcraft since I’m 14 yo, a long run with it, but something I feel like I'm stuck and not making any progress (adhd thing probably).

I would like to meet more lovely witches and polytheist to be able to talk about our things, share practice, book recommendations and help each other. Sometimes I think that the only thing I need is to share this path with more people. And I would love that

Question I think I "spoke" to some Deity

Hello there, hope you're all doing good. Yesterday I entered a church (I'm not Christian, I define myself as a Greek Polytheist, but I love going into churches) and I tried to speak to Someone. I don't know if it was God, Jesus, Helios or any other Sun God, I just felt connected to who I was speaking and I felt listened and directed where I had to. Is there any hint? And I'd like to ask if I can add other Sun Gods to my "Pantheon", because I mostly pray the Sun itself, and I speak less with other Gods

Question Hi! Assuming Yahweh is one of many Gods, why should I worship others over Yahweh? The cults of Yahweh, Christianity and Islam, kicked other cult's asses. Shouldn't I assume their God is stronger then?

Discussion Anyone practing both Shenism and Shintoism?

The title. Anyone revering the Shinto pantheon(Tsukuyomi, Susanoo, Amaterasu, Izanagi), and also the Shenism pantheon(Jade Emperor, Ne Zha, Sun Wukong, Ao Bing, Pangu)?

I am interested in finding a partner who believes in both as I myself am a 26M Hindu and love the cultural similarities that these 3 faiths have. It would be so cool to practice a mixed form of them.

Originally I was thinking of going to Taiwan/Japan/China, to find someone but I don't know. How do pagans usually find their dates?

Question How do I communicate with Lord Hypnos

So im very new to hellenic polytheism and I really want to worship and pray to Lord Hypnos. I don't want my parents to know about it so I set a up a really small altar near my bed. It has two hand drawn pictures of Lord Hypnos and a small plushie as offerings. I also got lavender oil so it all snells like it. My problem is, I can't seem to communicate properly. I prayed every day and after I read that we need to ask for permission to worship the deities, I gave it a try. So I called for Lord Hypnos, and asked to communicate with me. Now here's the tricky part, I don't know if it was actually him😭. I kinda felt a shift in energy(?) but I think that was just the wind blowing.. I did this three, i think? times and it's the same every attempt. For example: first time i tried (with a cube btw) i asked Lord Hypnos, are you here? I got a yes, then I asked if it would be okay if I worshipped him, I got a no, then I asked if I could just pray and got a yes! Now that I think about it, I doubt he was even there to begin with... Because after that attempt, every time I tried the answers came inconsistent. And I didn't feel amy energy at all, I meditate every night as a devotion(?) but I still don't know if I'm doing it right. I feel very, and I mean VERY drawn to Lord Hypnos and I would love to hear advice for my situation🤍

Question I don't like using bowls for my gods do you guys know what red Solo cups is and that they could be cleansed and thrown away respectfully... Do you guys think this is disrespectful or am I just lazy

I don't like using bowls for my gods do you guys know what red Han Solo cups is and that they could be cleansed and thrown away respectfully... Do you guys think this is disrespectful or am I just lazy and being a chaos witch I'm aware it's making microplastics and isn't exactly good for the Earth but sometimes you got to be lazy. Also for contacts I don't got a lot of money and if I do I'm spending it on candles and supplies so I can make my things better I don't have money for bowls they're like the least of my priority for my religion path so what do we think do we think we could upgrade or find a different way maybe paper bowls or something idkkkk edit I've considered the feedback I'm getting and I shouldn't continue the plastic cups for obvious reasons

Question How do you tell if a deity is in your dreams

So I've been having dreams lately where someone who sais their deity but either don't present themselves how they show up in mythology or multiple different deity have been in a dream to a point where I don't trust that they all are in my dreams.

For example I recently had a dream where I was with someone who said they were hecate and we talked about magic but she looked more like a casual friend than a deity.

Also I've had a dream whith a male deity which meant I died (not sure wich one but I know it wasn't thanatos because he didn't have wings)

So basically I'm asking if someone says their a deity does that mean they are that deity or no

Question Have you ever considered creating your own deities?

Hey there!
I was just reading the Book of Mormon and I just thought what if I’m supposed to create my own philosophical framework and correspondingly find out the deities I want to follow or do something crazier and create ones that fit my worldview. So any thoughts or tips on how to find already existing deities?

Thanks in advance :)

Edit: perhaps I should have not used the term "create", I meant like felt inspired to follow specific deities that aren't exactly known.

Question The Morrigan Goddess

I got a nice visit from The Morrigan a few weeks ago and she is one of the deities that watch me and she showed herself to me in her human form the other day. I was driving back from Columbia, SC the other week and I was getting super tired and I was about to drift off to sleep and I happened to look in to my rear view mirror and see what was The Morrigan. I got spooked and woke right the fuck up. I have given her an offer and a devotion already shes already giving me signs of her coming to see me l the vivid dreams and seeing her at the corner of my eye walking in the house she is very much so present.

How do you guys work with The Morrigan? How can I directly talk to her?

\*\*\*\*Yes I have done all of my research and reading on The Morrigan\*\*\*\*

Question Am I good enough to worship Lady Athena?

I've been working with deities for a while now, and even before I got into Hellenism, I always felt a strong pull towards Athena. When I finally started formally worshiping her, it felt natural, and that initial connection deepened. Now, two years in, I still find myself grappling with the feeling that I'm not a 'good enough worshipper or devotee. It's not that my dedication wavers, but I often feel like I'm not intelligent or insightful enough to truly embody the qualities she represents. Has anyone ever felt this way?

Question Hola! Soy nuevo. Busco ayuda.

Hello everyone! I'm completely new to Hellenism and I would love to connect with the community, especially if there are any Spanish-speaking groups or spaces around here. I have always felt a deeply profound connection to water and Poseidon. Interestingly, astrologically I am a triple Pisces (Sun, Moon, and Ascendant), which feels tightly aligned with this calling I feel towards him. Currently, I live in a 3rd-floor studio apartment in Spain, so I adapt my practice as best as I can: I purify myself when I wake up and before going to sleep, I read the Delphic Maxims, and I pour my first libation of the day into a potted plant. I also have a travel/mobile altar (including a glass bottle with seawater, sand, etc.). I even try to offer him music by playing a short melody on a humble 12-hole ocarina. I feel a bit lost because it's hard for me to find books, texts, or to know exactly how to structure prayers step-by-step. I would love to know if there are active servers in Spanish, or reliable places where I can learn more about the history and actual practice. Additionally, I want to buy or craft a necklace dedicated to Poseidon, but I don't really know where to start. I from the bottom of my heart appreciate any advice, reading recommendations, or community links!

Question How did you "found" your patron

Hello

I just stumbeld across som polytheist communitys and read from so many people who talked about their patrons. I come from a I guess similiar background in some cases although I would't say that i'm a polytheist do to I don't worship specific Gods. They are more deitys, ancestors, landspirits etc. But still I was wondering how you all found your patrons. Was it more like a sympathy thing or was there more to it

I made this as my last big project in high school, the prompt was Greek gods so I painted this with gods I liked, the ones featured in the painting are Athena, Hera, Hestia, Artemis, Poseidon, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, and Ares.

Let me know what you think. :)

Crosspost Post your deity humorous 1 liners, lets get creative! What you got?

So I had this idea of posting humorous 1 liners!(You can make your own with lore, debate, comment rate each 1-10best & find any canon lore found by like their respective temples(Especially Vatican about Greek|Wicca, new reasonable ones, etc. We already got theoi.com. Smile at night may help keeps palsys away in any case, just in case. Some mild offtopic lifetips: Dvt if 55+.Orlistat if overweight–doesnt affect vision).

General: 'Help me reach my main goals in life today thru faithful (Name your heaven), tomorrow & whenever'

Poetically cheesy 1 liners. r/polytheism/s/lA1J3bV9hD

(Can end with 'deity __ ty, amen/mote it be to all')

(Dark)Eris Discordia: When the going gets tough, resiliency & particles of chaotic mayham can help procreate the world. World is full of mystery with saturated depthful wonders–adventures await.

Nyx Nuit: One outta chase dreams like Goddess Nyx chases the night—because even in the dark, one's moon-struck by life.🌙✨ Let them seeth, let them rest, prepare & rejoice! For a celebrative fest!

The Grimoire of Chaos holds many secrets to discover, inheritedly passed down by Eris herself. (Tell me a secret 11:11 thing perhaps. Bow & repent for your sins, mortals! Go vegan or live in treacherous wonder, you decide.)

(Fire)Hemera Jour: Help me pursue wisdom, love & my life's true goals today, tomorrow & always.

(Normal)Athena: My virtue & faith is what keeps me awake day & night. Grant me wisdom before action & patience before words.

(Water)Amphitrite: I seek answers from where they not there. Oh pls thou lend me a sign of your guidance to resolve these issues.

(Earth)Gaia: Guide my steps toward what is good, true & worthwhile.Keep my roots deep & my heart growing.

(Elec)Astrapia & Brontia Scintillae: Twins of lightning, impulsiveness risks, lend me the luck I need to bypass forth any challenge that glared.

(Ice)Skadi: Grant me vision for tomorrow, gratitude for today & tranquility when needed to get thru the thick'n hue(fog of things) with clarity.

(Fghtr)Artemis Hunt: May I become a little kinder, wiser, & braver each day. Strategy & accomplishments can make for fairgame wherever it may take me(we might be). Grant focus, independence & a steady aim–I cannot miss my chance at thriving.

(Psn)Epione Epivoli:Artisan of crafts, gossip flares, master of time. With your help, today's work can be done & tomorrow can be another day with great hopes & prosperity. Grant me skill, precision & great thoughts to get things done asap.

(Ancient)Cleopatra:Where were you when I most needed you? Can you use a 3rd eye for insight? Patriarchy structure is wrong, lets abolish it together. How ever shall I know how to reach my goals without a lamp to guide me..Guidance of whats to come(upcoming paths) is feasible if things planned out just right.

(Aero)Phobe: Judgement, wisdom, health, harmony–wherever the winds, I'll be there, you can count on it! Trust the efficient process.

(Psychic)Apate Dolis: If the tarot cards & stars align with me, I hope to prevail in this misery world we call home.

(Bug)Vysys: What could a small critter do in a problemetic situation like mine? (state issue)

(Rock)Ariya Iwanaga: If you can move a mtn, you can move motivation & success wherever you go. If you cant..you're just in status quo like the rest of us..

(Phantom)Hecate: The spirit in me dwells deep in my cultural roots..somewhere..or lost thru time. If cant do it today, do it tomorrow but dont give up or bad omens(shadows) might get you.

(Dragon)Ryujin: Adaptable, smart, clever. Whats not to like? Moral ambition leads to the skies within good faith & positive dreams. However..dont let charisma disrupt the peace of your people.

(Steel)Hephaestus: A chain is as strong as its weakest link, but my philosophy knows no boundaries in times of structure & well being, improvise & forge new things.

(Fae)Ostara Reinastre: Ever wonder whats it like to be living in the afterlife? ..Me too..powers of roam or reincarnation awaits us all!(Like an isekai)

Mt.Olympus' Element Deity Anthem(Mini sonnet w/metaphors):

"From element deitys of the average(normal), to the fiery(fire) water skies(air), from roots of Earth & its thunderstorms(elec). Icy winds rip & tear with struggling despair fighters. Toxic happens, we all been there. Grounding our morals with clairovayant(psychic) intuitional intent.Dont let the that what be unknown(insect), solid manipulating snake eyes(rockrock dragon) nor phantom deities intimidate me(but rather guide me if believe in those). Ominous shadows(dark) may lurk with shrill noises(steel) but light(fae) & hope may prevail above all, so thou mote it be."
