Remove clear backpack requirement at Plant City High School
c.orgPlant City High just rolled out a mandatory clear backpack policy, and honestly, it feels like a privacy violation wrapped in the name of safety.
I started a petition to push back on this. Clear backpacks strip students of basic privacy—everyone can see what's in your bag, from personal items to what you're struggling with. Plus, the logic doesn't hold up. If anything, it could make theft *worse* since students can see exactly what others are carrying. And let's be real: transparent bags are more expensive, which puts extra pressure on families already stretching their budgets.
There are better ways to keep school safe—more security staff, enhanced protocols, checks—without making students feel exposed and uncomfortable. A school should feel supportive, not invasive.
If you think students deserve privacy and dignity, please consider signing and sharing the petition. Has anyone else dealt with policies like this? What would you actually want your school to do instead?
