Interactive Let's talk about item(130) wand of disintegration! Hablemos del item(130) varita de desintegracion!

Post 130, everyone! We're almost done with more wands, just two more to go, and then the tier list based on your feedback (this tier list will be quite interesting to make, honestly).

The Disintegration Wand is quite interesting. What it does is launch a "beam of light" that passes through both enemies and solid obstacles (walls/doors) in a straight line towards where it's fired. The range of the light beam is 2*(3+level) squares (meaning it has a base range of 6 squares). The base damage is 2-8 and scales by +1/+4 (resulting in fairly decent damage with each upgrade).

However, it has another mechanic: the damage it deals increases with the number of enemies and solid terrain its beam passes through. More specifically, it gains an additional 1-4 damage for each mob passed through (ally or enemy) and for every 3 individual obstacles passed through (3 walls/doors). Note: obstacles passed after the last enemy hit are not counted, only those passed before. (So if you have several enemies lined up in a corridor, which is common with the Swarm challenge, you can easily eliminate them all.)

Something to clarify: crystal mimics and animated statues in enclosed rooms will not be affected by the beam if you accidentally hit them, as this beam will always travel its maximum range.

Also, the beam is capable of destroying all terrains/obstacles categorized as "flammable," meaning grass, bookshelves, and the barricades in the barricade room.

A warning no one tells you: Evil Eyes will only receive 50% of the damage from this specific wand. I suppose their beam is similar to the wand's, which is why they resist it XD.

Battlemage effect: Projective Charm (a bit disappointing in my opinion)

Previous Post/post anterior: https://www.reddit.com/r/PixelDungeon/s/fgSw2wZlX1

ShatteredPD Does aqua brew damage the fire fist?

Upvotes

I use the aqua brew sometimes, mostly to combibe it with water healing effect and to quickly damage fire elementals (and of course the minor uses, such as disabling traps). but i never took them to Yog at floor 25.

sooo, the question is... does it damage the fire fist (Yog-Dzewa's major minion)? i mean, the description says it can damage fire creatures (and so it does against the elementals), but the fire fist can vaporize the nearby water tiles, so... i don't know if it will work, I'm kinda frustrated.

Discussion SPD became too easy for wrong reasons, too hard for silly reasons, and bloated with half-finished ideas.

To start, I'm not trying to dunk on Evan - he's been developing SPD since like OG Pixel Dungeon beta, right? And I've played every version along the way. I was playing original PD in ~2013. I've got probably 9 million games logged.

And I totally get that after 12 years of development, a dev runs out of cool ideas. But SPD keeps getting updated with half-baked ideas.

Old Huntress boomerang replaced with bow. Awesome. Bow nerfed into a utility tool. Not awesome.

Loot nerfed into oblivion. Ghost gives non-upgraded items 98% of the time. Yes, getting a +4 poleaxe from the ghost was absurd in old versions, but getting a +0 leather armor majority of time is just as absurd.

Floor bosses - actually one of most boring parts of game. Smash some crystals or smack around a teleporting gnoll. Get gold. Kthx for the weaksauce upgrades, Mr. Smither. Oh you fired up the anvil and produced a +0 plate armor for the 1000th time? Nice, bro. A real expert of your craft.

The "difficulty" of SPD is entirely cheese. I can predict how majority of games will turn out by floor ~7. Nowadays I mostly just die on purpose because I've become bored in a run by floor the dwarf halls.

The alchemy pot - cool idea, vastly underutilized. You can't really make anything that changes much. Oh you can make a frost bomb to 1-shot the ember elemental? Thats cool - you can also just drop a frost seed and 2-shot him. So why did I waste the alchemy essence?

Class skills - average utility skills mixed with the occasional damage enhancers. Barely any flavor, just "add 2-3 dmg" or "eat food and get a quick buff" - which hardly even matters unless you've found a horn of plenty. You can swap class skills with transmutation scroll, but you're just swapping one average class skill for another average class skill.

Its like every time a decent update for SPD comes out, it inevitably gets nerfed or averaged out into min-max boredom, and the min-maxing isn't even that good. Its just statistical averageness to keep you somewhat-gimping along until the next floor.

When SPD was solely a mobile game, we could be like "Yeah okay, its an Android game, don't expect much". But then it became a Steam game, Evan opened a Patreon, and now its like....resting on the laurels of its min-max average.

I loved SPD and what it always could've became, but what it became was just a statistically averaged bore-crawl. There's practically no power curve, item synergy is hit-or-miss and most of the time not even necessary.

Its like the core game development for the past few years has been "bland min-max dungeon crawler that once got inspired by Minecraft for a couple of days".

And it could've been 100000x better.

Sub Meta [Flair Request] Add "Modding - AI" flair

There have been several cases of posts where someone used AI to make a pixel dungeon mod or port, and didn't say so outright. Because of this, I propose a "Modding - AI" flair, the usage of which is mandatory for any mod that uses AI. This would make it clear for people whether a given project used AI or was fully made by a real human being.

Modding I am the Dungeon Boss v0.0.2

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey dungeoneers,

Huge thank you to everyone who’s been playing I am the Dungeon Boss, filing bug reports, and generously volunteering as unpaid QA by walking face-first into whatever we shipped. We hope you had fun. Or at least a memorable kind of pain.

v0.0.2 (Alpha) is live.

What’s in this one:

  • Boss encounters that used to get you stuck should be less sticky
  • Solo Easy Mode (for when the dungeon owes you kindness)
  • 9 challenges unlocked (Solo mode only) — not thoroughly tested, so if something explodes, that’s science
  • Various crash / stability fixes so the game tries harder to stay upright

Honorable mentions

  • u/Hrohlu — for an echo that slayed 5 heroes trying to dethrone him as the Sewers Boss. The dungeon has favorites, and apparently it’s this guy.
  • u/Shattered_Warrior01 — deepest floor reached and more than one bug report. Efficiency: 100%. Mercy: 0%.

Grab it

Android APK, desktop JAR, and Windows native zip are on that page. Alpha means “please keep reporting bugs; we are listening and slightly afraid.”

Thanks again for playing — go forth, die stylishly, and may your next run be slightly less cursed.

Edit: As per multiple wishes of the community to clearly communicate how the game is made: I’ve been developing I am the Dungeon Boss with Cursor’s agent as a coding partner. It helps me move faster on implementation, tests, and refactors — but the design calls, balance, and “is this fun?” checks are still mine. If something feels off, rest assured that I'm personally already looking for a solution!

Interactive Let's talk about item(129) wand of fire blast!

Thumbnail

Post 129, this is progressing quite well, folks, let's keep it up. Today we continue with another combat wand (there are only combat wands left, if I'm not mistaken). Oh, pyromaniacs are so happy when they find this wand in their runs~ hehe

The Fire Blast Wand is a bit different from the others, since its shot doesn't affect a specific square; its shot goes in a whole "direction."

When you use it, you launch a "cone" of flames that cover the entire area you aim at, affecting everything within its very wide range.

This wand, like the Regrowth Wand, can consume more than "1 charge" when used, consuming 2 or 3 if available (more precisely, when used it consumes 30% of the maximum charges available at that moment).

Its shot becomes more powerful and gains more effects as it consumes more charges.

Its shot becomes more powerful and gains more effects as it consumes more charges. With 1 charge, it deals 1-2 damage (scaling +1/+2) and affects a 5-cell area. With 2 charges, it deals a base damage of 2-8 (scaling +2/+4), affects a 7-cell radius, and inflicts the "crippled" debuff on hit enemies (the debuff that reduces movement speed). With 3 charges, its base damage is 3-18 (scaling +3/+6), affecting a 9-cell area and applying 4 turns of paralysis. Furthermore, the duration the "flames" remain in the cells, if I'm not mistaken, is 2/4/6 turns with each charge used. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

So, in retrospect, it has a very, very high damage potential, because it's not just the base damage of the shot; enemies are also affected by the "ignited" debuff, which deals fire damage every time. turn (I'm not sure exactly how many turns the effect lasts with each charge)

The problem is, this wand is as powerful as it is dangerous, because as I said, the flames remain in those squares for several turns, so you yourself can end up burning if you accidentally enter that range.

Besides, it can burn valuable scrolls if you're not careful where you aim and how much the fire spreads to the grass and other terrain (don't worry, improvement scrolls don't burn).

Previous post/post anterior: https://www.reddit.com/r/PixelDungeon/s/CeWpsl6MRW

I've got no idea how to approach this fight with huntress, especially the second phase when you fight 6 enemies at once. What should I upgrade and what to make with alchemy?

Subclass is sniper, bow is enchanted with elastic and argumented for speed

Challenges are: Badder Bosses, Hostile Champions, Pharmacophobia, Forbidden Runes and FIMA

Modding First Dungeon Boss claimed — 30 minutes after launch

Post image
21 Upvotes

The Sewers have a new ruler.

Shattered_Warrior01 just became the first player to claim a Dungeon Boss slot — Depth 5 — about 30 minutes after release.

Goo is out. A Level 6 Warrior is in. The other floors are still holding the line with Tengu, DM-300, Dwarf King, and Yog… for now.

But the big questions are: how many will he take down & who will overtake him?

Dethrone them. Guard the dungeon. Your legacy holds the door.

Congrats, u/Shattered_Warrior01 — you wrote the first page of the leaderboard.
