R/Pillows Gains a New Mod!

Hello, fellow pillow fans!

u/MikeTheCat isn't as active anymore on Reddit, so they reached out to me, asking if I would like to assist in moderating this lovely sub. As you can see, I accepted.

Now, I will be honest with you: I do not have any prior subreddit-moderating experience. However, between moderating a Mastodon instance, some Discord servers, some Twitch channels, a small wiki project, etc. I hope that I might've picked up a thing or two. So for now, I am cautiously optimistic!

Here is what you can expect to see in the next couple days:

  • Rules: because we do need some. Nothing complex, just something reminding people to be decent, another one encouraging people to provide some detail when asking for recommendations, and of course a rule explaining our stance on advertising. For most of you, nothing will change.

  • user flares: a mostly optional self-identification. I say mostly optional because average pillow fans will not be required to have a flare — but you can definitely have one if you want to let others know what your favourite pillow is! Brand accounts and affiliate reviewers, however, will be required to properly tag themselves, to make it clear to others who they're interacting with.

  • Post flares: Again, optional. So far I am thinking categories such as Show-and-Tell, 4 Looking for Recommendations flares (side-, back- and stomach-sleeper, and other), advice, etc. Further recommendations more than welcome.

  • Perhaps some AutoMod stuff if I can get it working, such as a reminder to people looking for recommendations to share as much info as possible so people can properly help them (approx. location, sleeping position/s, budget, what they've tried so far, etc.).

  • And of course, a much faster response time to reports!

I hope that all sounds good so far. One thing that might not, or at least is different from how many sibling subs do things, is that brand accounts and advertising will not be fully banned. Instead, companies willing to be honest about who they are will be permitted, where as any advertising disguised as genuine user reviews will be promptly removed when caught. MikeTheCat and I hope that this will reward those companies willing to be transparent and lead to more such behavior; if that does not turn out to be the case, this rule shall be reconsidered.

Alright, now that's enough from me. This is your chance to speak up and let us know what you like and dislike about this sub so far, what changes you wish to see, or even just to say hi. I promise to read, respond to, and consider everything.

Pillow Advice Tempur-Pedic Pillow Delivery, Is This Normal?

Post image
Upvotes

I recently purchased a Tempur-Pedic mattress from Mattress Firm and a TP pillow. The pillow arrived today looking something like this. Is this normal? The pillow is wrapped in plastic so I believe it is new, but do they typically arrive like this? If so, I expected more for a pillow that costs well over $200.

Brooklyn Bedding misleading advertising.

Brooklyn Bedding advertises the Talalay Latex Pillow low loft as 4 inches, so I ordered the pillow taking all the trouble to have it shipped from US through a proxy shipper because they don't ship to Europe. The pillow arrived after more than a month, due to the horrible Bayshop service, and: SURPRISE! is not the 4 inches I was expecting and I need for my cervical condition. I write to brooklyn Bedding thinking is a mistake and no, it is not. It is simply a fake advertise: their website states a 4 inches loft for the talalay pillow, while their customer service confirmed 'low loft' talalay it is actually approximately 5.75 inches. The pillow I received measures about 15 cm. This is not a small variation; it is a materially different loft. International customers should be especially careful, because returning the product may be unrealistic once forwarding, shipping costs and return windows are involved. And everybody else should know not to order a Brooklyn Bedding low loft is they need a 4 inches pillow.

Hey y’all, I’ve had this pillow for years now and it’s finally starting to get worn down, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations of one like it? I’m not too sure what it’s made of but it’s a beauty rest (I’ll include a picture). When I went to look for it on they’re site they only had three ones for sell and they aren’t really what I’m looking one.

Pillow Recommendations (Side Sleeper) Neck pain - Pillow for side sleeper

Please help!

I’ve been having neck pain for months, feels like years! Some days it’s better, but I woke up today and it was terrible.

I am a side sleeper and I hug a pillow. My sleeping pillow has been horrible for a while, I used to sleep on a sleep innovations cervical memory foam pillow. I had to repurchase every couple of years because it got too soft.

They hadn’t been able to find it, so I’ve been sleeping on other pillows. And let me tell you, my neck has been angry on and off at me!

Any suggestions for pillows? Any advice on how to relieve this neck pain?

Sincerely,

Cranky neck side sleeper

Edit: I must have been buying every 5-10 years, because looks like there is a 5 year warranty.

Looking for good pillow

To be honest I’ve never been able to sleep well unless I was crammed between multiple pillows. I’m just looking for recommendations because I’ll be going to college. I was leaning towards maternity pillow because I literally can’t sleep unless suffocated by pillows all around me, but I’m worried that my roommate would be weirded out. Maybe I should just go for a body pillow? Is that too weird too?

Pillow Recommendations (Side Sleeper) Looking for a down alternative pillow that compresses

Hello,

I realized I am allergic to my down pillows. I love them because they squish down kind of small. A problem I have with a lot of other pillows is that they're too fluffy/thick. I've tried the adjustable memory foam pillows and don't like them. Can anyone suggest a washable, down alternative pillow that's more compressible than a typical pillow? Thank you!

Knee pillow makes a huge difference when trying to sleep

I had a total knee replacement just over a year ago and have had trouble finding a pain free sleeping position. It doesn't help that I have some bulging back discs.

I found a sculptured foam knee pillow that really makes sleeping much more pain free.

I got it from my favorite online retailer.

Pillow Advice Does anyone know of this pillow?!

I just recently got a tattoo and the pillow they had me using was phenomenal. Square “U” pillow but had a cutout for the head and neck. Not super hard or soft. It wasn’t a face down pillow. It wasn’t associated with the massage table they were using. Anyone have anything close?!

Pillow Recommendations (Back Sleeper) Pillow recommendations for neck pain

I have a buffalo hump on the bottom of my neck so the neck pain is horrible. I’ve tried down alternative pillows and memory foam and those are definitely too flat. I sink straight down and there’s no support. I’ve been stuck with an old pillow from Target and the stuffing inside of it has turned into hard balls that dig into my neck. I wake up in pain all night. I’ve tried to find other pillows but the ones I’ve found are all either too flat or too hard. I tried the Beckham hotel collection pillow on Amazon but that one was too flat as well. Then I tried Boll & Branch’s down alternative pillow in medium and that was even worse than the Beckham for some reason. My head sunk straight down. Out of desperation I bought more Target pillows to try but those are all too flat and too hard so I have no idea. I heard Coop pillows were popular but it’ll be way too complicated for me right now to fill the pillow myself and then test it and repeat if it’s uncomfortable etc. I’d rather find something easier for now. I’m already having to fluff and shake my current pillow every night just to get it to hold its shape. Does anyone have any recommendations? I’m willing to try other pillows, but again, even the one I tried at Boll & Branch didn’t work and that was a medium. Sometimes I will turn on my side but I’m mainly a back sleeper.

If our heads are round and our necks are curved, why are pillows still block shaped?

It seems obvious, but hasn't existed until now.

A gentle basin cradles the back of the head, while a subtle arch supports the natural curve of the neck. Less loft. Less forced compression. Just a pillow designed around human anatomy.

Arriving this August.

Carpe Noctem.

How long does squish pillows last

I'm looking for new pillows and I'm not usually a spendy person, and I came across the squish pillow by squishmallow and it's actually a really good fit for my sleep style. I understand it's relatively new to the market and I can't find any reviews that discuss how it holds up over time. Has anyone used it for several months and how long is it going to last at its current state of puffiness? What I like about it is that unlike other pillows of its price point, the filling really seems to flow and conform to curves better, rather than compress like a flat sheet or block of fiberfill.

I tried 4 shredded memory foam pillows for a year to see if price equals quality. As expected, higher price doesn't necessarily mean best durability.

I'm a big fan of shredded memory foam pillows. From the start since someone founded this dream combination, my family and I can't sleep on any other kind of pillows anymore. However, what I noticed over the years is that there is a big price range for these pillows. Before the review, it's good to understand that neither of these pillow are 'buy it for life'. However, there is a difference in quality and durability of the pillows.

Therefore, I wanted to test out some of them. To test it out, I bought four different shredded memory foam pillows with my family and we slept on it for a year. After one year we assessed them based on two factors. The first one was ability to 'bounce back'. This means we checked if the memory foam flattened out. The second one was the overal quality of the pillow.

It turns out, the more expensive ones are not always the best choice. To be honest, the four different brands scored very mixed. You can find the findings below:

  • Saatva ($165): stayed in good shape and quality is good. Bad price/quality ratio honestly. Similar experience to some of the cheaper ones, so I don't feel like I got my money's worth.
  • Kozi Sleep Pillow ($60): stayed in good shape. Memory foam didn't flat out. Solid budget pick. Similar experience to the Saatva pillow which is more than 2,5x the price.
  • Coop Sleep Goods Original ($90): not a lot of support (too little fill) from the start. Also went flat faster than I expected for the price. Not the best pick.
  • Tempur ($74): started out great, really dense and supportive, but by month 8 it had lost a noticeable chunk of loft. Quality stayed intact. Price/quality ratio is okay. You will have to buy some new memory foam to fill the pillow with after some time.

As I already expected, price didn't correlate with longevity at all. Moral of the story; always check the reviews. High doesn't always mean best quality/longevity.

If there are any other pillows I should try for my next review, please drop a comment.
