Status: Pending Reply Insane amount of spams

Of course I'm far from being alone on that one but here's the day I'm asking: try to filter sender email addresses - which obviously changes all the time - put aside, how can I get rid of all spams I get daily once and for all?

I'll bless anyone who will find THE way to make it happen - if it does exist.

Status: Pending Reply render issue inside android outlook app

I could not google out anyone reported the same, it seems started last week I noticed a newsletter missing some letters here and there, I even reported it to that prganisation, then this week when I tried to type some emails, even copy paste, it always omit some letters, the whole thing looks like redacted, I cleared outlook app cache, I checked phone (pixel 9 pro) update the latest, keyboard is ok, when using Gmail or some other emails, no problem, is this a unreported glitch? I asked chatgpt and Claude, nothing resolve the issue, but both saying look like rendering issue. i do not want to uninstall the outlook app or reinstall as a few accounts in the app.

Status: Open Find Related Message Broken (Outlook 16.111 - MacOS)

Upvotes

Curious to know if anyone's been having issues with the "Find Related" function? Has been working up until this afternoon - and i noticed that Outlook received an automatic update earlier today (my guess - what caused the issue).

When I use the function, whether Sender or Conversation, the search bar is populated by an XML statement rather than what it usually shows (see below)

By Sender:

<Z name=/Outlook/Search/Keywords/from comment='\[tag:Apex-OLK-4998700\]This translation should match with 3s translations else it will not work.'>from</Z><Z name=/outlook/search/keywordmarker>:</Z>"[email protected]"

By Conversation:

<Z name=/Outlook/Search/Keywords/conversationtopic comment='\[tag:Apex-OLK-7019011\]This translation should match with 3s translations else it will not work.'>ConversationTopic</Z><Z name=/outlook/search/keywordmarker>:</Z>"XXXXXXX"

Has anyone had this issue today/recently/ever? Any luck in finding a solution? This is a function that I use a lot.

Informative Export/Sync your Outlook rules to mail providers with Sieve support

Upvotes

I’ve been building some tiny open-source tool that turns a bunch of basic (classic) Outlook receive rules (and Thunderbird filters) into server-side Sieve rules through ManageSieve.

mailbox.org/Open-Xchange works; other ManageSieve providers may work too but are untested (Migadu, Purelymail, and self-hosted Dovecot/Pigeonhole).
This way, all mails get sorted directly on the sever to your folders on ANY device, not only your desktop with Outlook. You can still manage the rules natively inside Outlook and sync from time to time. Or you can switch to any other mail client without losing the ruleset.

Any feedback is welcome: https://sewieland.github.io/transiever/

Status: Resolved Solved: Outlook Legacy for Mac and Apple Mail Could Not Add Microsoft 365 Accounts

Problem

We encountered an issue where Microsoft 365 email accounts could not be added using:

  • Outlook Legacy for Mac
  • Apple Mail
  • macOS Internet Accounts

The issue affected:

  • Multiple Microsoft 365 users
  • Multiple Mac devices
  • Newly created macOS user profiles

Symptoms

  • Outlook for Mac (New Outlook) worked correctly.
  • Outlook on the Web (OWA) worked correctly.
  • Outlook Legacy for Mac failed to add the account.
  • Apple Mail failed during account setup.
  • macOS Internet Accounts returned:

1     The operation couldn't be completed

2     (com.apple.accounts error 3)

  • Accessing Exchange Web Services (EWS) from Safari produced an unexpected blank page.

Initial Checks

The following items were verified and appeared normal:

Mailbox Configuration

1     Get-CASMailbox [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) | FL *

Relevant settings:

1     MacOutlookEnabled : True

2     EwsEnabled        : True

3     MAPIEnabled       : True

4     OWAEnabled        : True

5     ActiveSyncEnabled : True

Authentication Policies

1     Get-AuthenticationPolicy

Result:

1     No policies configured

Default Authentication Policy

1     Get-OrganizationConfig | FL DefaultAuthenticationPolicy

Result:

1     DefaultAuthenticationPolicy :

OAuth

1     Get-OrganizationConfig | FL OAuth2ClientProfileEnabled

Result:

1     OAuth2ClientProfileEnabled : True

EWS Application Restrictions

1     Get-OrganizationConfig | FL EwsApplicationAccessPolicy,EwsAllowList,EwsBlockList

Result:

1     EwsApplicationAccessPolicy :

2     EwsAllowList :

3     EwsBlockList :

No restrictions were configured.

Conditional Access

No Conditional Access policies were found that would block Outlook for Mac or Apple Mail.

Root Cause

The issue was caused by Exchange Web Services (EWS) being disabled at the organizational level.

Verification:

1     Get-OrganizationConfig | Select EwsEnabled

Result:

1     EwsEnabled : False

Although individual mailboxes had:

1     EwsEnabled : True

EWS was disabled globally for the tenant.

Solution

Enable EWS organization-wide:

1     Set-OrganizationConfig -EwsEnabled $true

Verify the change:

1     Get-OrganizationConfig | Select EwsEnabled

Expected result:

1     EwsEnabled : True

Outcome

After enabling EWS:

✅ Outlook Legacy for Mac successfully added accounts

✅ Apple Mail successfully configured Microsoft 365 mailboxes

✅ macOS Internet Accounts worked correctly

✅ Existing authentication errors disappeared

✅ The issue was resolved for all affected users

Key Lesson Learned

If:

  • Outlook (New) works
  • Outlook Web works
  • Outlook Legacy for Mac fails
  • Apple Mail fails
  • macOS Internet Accounts fails
  • The issue affects multiple users and multiple Macs

Check the following setting immediately:

1     Get-OrganizationConfig | Select EwsEnabled

If it returns:

1     False

try:

1     Set-OrganizationConfig -EwsEnabled $true

In our environment, this was the root cause and completely resolved the issue.

Status: Resolved Impossible Authentication Loop

I am desperate for help. I am stuck in an authentication loop that I can’t get out of. My attempts to follow self-help steps ended up locking me out of my outlook app on my computer and phone today. Microsoft Support is ignoring my emails because my small business staying afloat is “minimal” priority according to the AI that categorized my issue.

I have been using Office 365 Pro, including Outlook for email and calendar. It is my own domain. All was working fine, but I wanted to log into my Microsoft account. When I tried about 2 months ago, the website told me to authenticate my sign-in using the Outlook app on my mobile device. All well and good… except the authentication option didn’t present itself in the app. I tried refreshing the app multiple times. I selected “I don’t have access to the app right now”, and was told to authenticate using the Authenticator App. I downloaded the Authenticator App and tried signing in. The Authenticator App wanted me to verify the sign-in using the Outlook App. And round and round I went.

I read the help articles that say it could be too many requests in a short period of time, I thought maybe the app just needed updating, no big deal. I waited. I tried again on at least 4 separate occasions. Same issue. Outlook App gives me no option to authenticate with the two-digit number, Authenticator app won’t let me sign in without the Outlook App authentication, and at no point is the browser letting me either use my recovery email or phone number to authenticate the sign-in.

Today, waited until after work (about 5:30 EST) to try again. Found another help article that linked me to the sign-in helper. I put in my username and was told it wasn’t found. Because I use Microsoft/Outlook for a work email, I clicked the link for people who use the software for a work/school email. That took me to a password reset page. I was able (on that page) to authenticate my password reset using my recovery email and by verifying my phone number. I thought (stupidly) that maybe this was it - maybe this would fix the issue. I tried signing into my Microsoft account using the reset password. It again asked for authentication with the Outlook App. Outlook App yet again did not allow me to authenticate. But it had also logged me out.

Now here’s where I realized I may have just totally ruined everything by following Microsoft’s own instructions… because I tried signing back into the Outlook mobile app. And the Outlook mobile app asked me to Authenticate my new sign-in… you guessed it… with the Outlook mobile app.

At this point it’s around 6:30. I’m worried. I try calling the toll free customer service numbers that it takes me ages to find. AI tells me to go to a website for support. I go to the website. It tells me to log in. But guess what happens when I try to log into the support website to get help with my sign-in authentication issue. It needs me to authenticate my log-in.

I try calling back. I guess it recognized my phone number. The AI went straight to telling me to go to the support website. Finally I call the 305 (toll) number and I get an AI assistant that at least takes more information, like my name, and my email address, and what the issue was. It was a very long and frustrating test of my patience to respell my name multiple times. Finally it gave me a case number. I thought everything was going to be OK now. I checked my email (7:02 PM) and the email says my issue is just inability to log into my admin account (which is not the real urgent problem), and my issue is categorized as “C” priority. That means “minor impact” and it’ll be dealt with in their own time whenever they get to it.

I replied all and explained that this is not a minor issue. This neverending authentication loop has now locked me out of accessing my business email and calendar. There is no other admin. I am self-employed. This is definitely a major issue.

I get an email 15 minutes later from a technician stating he’s been assigned to my case and asking when he can contact me. I reply back immediately and say I’m available now, anytime, I am by my computer until this is resolved. That was at 7:21. It’s now 10:05 pm. I sent two more emails, one asking whether I’d be hearing back today because time is of the essence, and I really am sat here waiting, and a second one about 40 minutes ago basically begging for someone to at least acknowledge that they’re reading my emails and I wasn’t just back-burnered. Well, the technician’s shift ended at 10 pm my time (7 pm PST), and I haven’t heard anything.

I am having a complete breakdown at this point. I run my own business. I have client meetings in the morning. I can’t function in my profession without access to email and my calendar. This is catastrophic for me and Microsoft couldn’t care less. They’re too busy saving money by replacing actual customer service with a machine that can’t spell to worry about their actual customers.

I don’t know what to do at this point. Does anyone have any ideas or solutions? As I said, I’m really freaking out and just need help.

I get there may be nothing that can be done, but any help and suggestions would be really appreciated because I am definitely going to lose clients if I can’t get this fixed by 8 am tomorrow.

Status: Pending Reply Categories feature in Outlook

Hi everyone,

I've noticed that the categories feature has disappeared from one of our shared Outlook inboxes.

I can still use Categories on my own work mailbox, but the option has completely disappeared when I right-click emails in our shared administration inbox.

I've tried using the web outlook and the old version, in the old version I was able to apply Categories, but my coworker couldn't see the changes. I'm not sure if that's because she'd also need to be using Classic Outlook.

Does anyone know how to get categories back on?

Status: Pending Reply Work Account prohibits sharing, workaround advice?

I live and breath by my calendar. I use Fantastical to have one master calendar that makes scheduling my life so much easier since I have a full-time job, do freelance work, and have a busy personal life.

I started a new job recently that uses Outlook and the IT department pretty much refuses to allow me to share my calendar or even add my personal calendars to Outlook. Everything is locked tight.

I won't pretend to understand whether this is great security or just plain stupid and annoying, but I think you have a pretty good idea how I am taking it. Never had this issue at any of my other jobs.

The best I can do is share to my 3rd party calendar that I am Busy. So in Fantastical it will show the event with the time, but just say "Busy." It's definitely a workable solution, but it's frustrating not being able to see the actual events, and still requires me to use two calendars.

I am begging someone to give me any kind of workaround. I have spent the last few weeks trying to dual wield calendars and I have discovered it's my worst nightmare. I have already made one scheduling mistake. It's also just a nuisance having to cross-reference every time I schedule something.

Please tell me something exists. The only solution I can find is to manually export my calendar file, but I need something live that syncs automatically. That won't work at all. I realistically understand that I am overreacting, but this truly has made my quality of life just a little bit worse so I am just seeking an outside solution.

Status: Pending Reply Sextortion scam email keeps reappearing in my Outlook inbox no matter what I do

For the past two weeks I've had a weird issue with my Outlook.com account. I keep getting a sextortion/phishing email (the classic "I hacked your webcam" scam, sender spoofed to look like it's coming from my own address). Every time I delete it, it comes back a bit later with a new timestamp. I actually timed it once: deleted the email and it reappeared exactly 15 minutes after. Tried it again and got the same result, so it doesn't seem random, more like something running on a fixed timer. Things

I've already tried, none of which stopped it:

  • Changed password multiple times
  • 2FA enabled (authenticator app), removed and recreated
  • All sessions signed out ("Sign out everywhere")
  • No suspicious mail rules (removed all existing rules, no effect)
  • Forwarding disabled
  • No third-party apps connected
  • Recovery methods (email/phone) confirmed correct
  • POP and IMAP disabled
  • Changed the account alias

Still comes back every time. At this point I'm fairly sure this isn't something I can fix from my end through normal account settings, feels more like something happening on the server side (hidden rule, corrupted mailbox index, something like that). Has anyone run into this before or know how to get this properly investigated on Microsoft's end? Already went through live chat support but honestly wasn't much help.
