Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a down sleeping bag and am having trouble deciding.

My upcoming trips:

- Backpacking trip in Sweden (summer)

- Bikepacking trip through the Alps (summer)

- Future use: Wild camping in the mountains (Alps)—also summer, and possibly autumn and spring

- Definitely no overnight stays in deep winter/freezing temperatures

My requirements for the sleeping bag:

- Compact packed size and low weight are a must (especially for bikepacking)

- I’ve never slept outdoors in temperatures around 0°C / 32°F, I thought the -1°C / 30°F would be enough, but I know mountain weather can be unpredictable..

- I’m looking for a long-term all-rounder for around €300

- Ideally not too tight a fit

About me and other gear:

- 183cm / 6ft
- 75kg / 165lbs
- Dont know the name of the sleeping pad, but it has a high r-value

My Questions for you:

- First off: Which of the two Spark models would you choose in my situation? (-1°C/ 30°F or -9°C / 15°F)

- Is the half-zip on the -1°C / 30°F model really annoying? Especially on warmer nights?

- And do you know of any other sleeping bags that might be a better option?

Note: I know Quilts are highly recommended for weight and packed size, but somehow I rather stick to a traditional sleeping bag..

I did a search and was unable to find suggestions for the abovw. My goal is to pack extremely light and mobile for future trips. I want to stay at 3 pairs/items per category with trousers and shorts being combined into 3 total.

Also, this would be for temperatures above 50 F (10 C) with a wear and hand wash wash/dry cycle.

Hi! Has anyone ever tried the Montbell Versalite Pack 15 or 20 backpacks? What is the durability like of these backpacks and worth the money?

We absolutely love the Wonderland 4-it is cool looking and has the best veiws and ventilation in its class. It is luxuriously roomy and even though the mesh wall is 1/3 of the way down the sides you still feel like u have privacy.

It is sturdy and well made and has rode out many a windy storm in fine fettle!

Hi everybody I was looking for a new sleeping bag as it is quite heavy and bulky so I searched for different models and found some at established companies but also a down sleeping bag from Alpin Loacker wich promises a comf. Temp of 0°c and only weights 860g u know there are lighter models but for 130€ it seems to be to good to be true is this sime kind of scam or am I missing something

Minha pergunta é: as mochilas Deuter mais antigas diferem significativamente dos modelos novos? Já usei uma Aircontact X em uma viagem de hiking de 14 dias e adorei. A mochila oferecida não tem danos e todas as suas características são originais. Confio no vendedor porque ele é honesto, mas estou preocupado se a versão mais antiga tem um desempenho tão bom quanto as mais novas. Tem alguém que usou mochilas Deuter por muito tempo e pode compartilhar uma opinião justa sobre como os designs da marca evoluíram?

I’m looking for a breathable, waterproof, longline raincoat (so I can sit on wet benches etc) that’s under $100. Something packable would be ideal. Breathable is a must because I tend to get sweaty and clammy.

I’ve seen Eddie Bauer, Lands end, mountain warehouse all on sale recently but have been disappointed in the past with brands like LL Bean having the waterproof coating crack after a number of years, so I’m hesitating on buying anything!

I guess I should have read more reviews before ordering so I’m posting this story amongst the others to hopefully steer others away.

I ordered a Kelty chair from Backcountry in June.

The chair arrived with a tear in the corner.

First they wanted a restocking fee to return it.

No. It’s damaged. Then they wanted me to pay to ship it back. No.

Then they were going to issue store credit.

I called and we agreed to return it to the card.

I sent an email confirming this, and received an email back confirming it would be refunded, not given store credit. On June 25th.

The shipment was received back on June 29th.

Then was told I had to wait for it to be processed, fine I understand that.

On July 3 I receive an email that the return has been accepted and the refund is under process.

On July 10 I send an email saying I am following up as I have not received the refund.

I get an email saying “the store credit is ready to be used(…)”.

I reply saying per this very same email chain as you can see below it is to be refunded to the card. I called and sent a confirmation email as seen below.

I then get this reply:

>The RMA was set as store credit from the beginning we cannot change that it will stay there for a year for you to exchange for another model or item. Thanks

I replied with again per the emails below in this chain it is to be a refund, complete with screenshots of the emails in case they for some reason can not look at previous emails in a chain.

EDIT: I’ve now received an email saying it has been changed refunded and wait 3-5 days.
So now we wait and see.

Shocking how they said “cannot be changed” and the very next email with someone who read the actual email chain was suddenly able to change it.

I'm looking for recommendations on waterproof repair tape that doesn't need an iron to set it, because that will melt the nylon I'm trying to attach it to. BUT also doesn't get the annoying gummy stickyness around the edges that makes it a dirt magnet.

Does such a thing exist? The use of the iron means it's not gummy on the edges once cool, the lack of an iron means that the stickiness must be present at all times, which means it will migrate to the edges.... is there a lower temp (as in nylon safe) version?

We got the Nemo Hornet OSMO 3P for Christmas after our old one got stolen, so we set it up in the backyard before our summer trips to get a feel for it.

The issue is that the footprint sticks out at the foot of the tent and no amount of tightening anywhere can fix it. The footprint straps at the head of the tent aren't adjustable, and short of bunching the footprint under the tent we can't find a solution. It sticks out enough that if it rains it will collect water and pool under the tent. I double and triple checked the footprint bag and it is the Hornet OSMO 3P Footprint, we didn't get the wrong one.

Has anyone encountered this issue before, or are we doing something wrong? I emailed Nemo over a month ago and they have not responded so I emailed them again this week and have yet to hear back. I don't even know if we could sell it and get a different one because of the footprint issue we'd just be pushing onto the next person.

Any advice would be appreciated!!

Here in Germany I am looking for a rain jacket that must have:

- a chest pocket in addition to already having 2 main side pockets

- armpit zips

- at least 15000mm waterproofness and breathability

- at best a 3Layer shell

- retail price up to 300euro (I will try to find something on sale for 50% hopefully)

So far I found possible matches:

- Haglofs front proof 2

- peak performance trail hipe 3L

- the North face dryzzle 2

But I would appreciate if you guys have any more recommendations inside the criteria mentioned. Somehow there isn't many options with a chest pocket and pitzips

So I am looking for a pack that has roughly the dimensions of the Hazard4 „Plan C“ backpack. The narrow form factor is something I really like and that is perfect for making a „go bag“ that will come with me on the mobile command unit truck of my local VFD.

There’s not a lot of space in there so I would rather have the narrow form factor.

I already have one of those packs (the original H4 one) for EDC, but apparently they stopped making that model. Which is a shame. The 2nd hand market doesn’t have a lot of options either, at least in my neck of the woods. Which is Germany.

(Also I am not paying 400 bucks to some scalper)
And to be honest: most of the time the pack is going to sit in a locker at the fire station. At max, it will be carried from the locker room to the truck and back. Maybe a short walk over to another unit on site.

That said, I don’t really need the original, that’d be a tad excessive in terms of cost.

So I am looking for a usable alternative.

Any hints are appreciated.

Hello fellow outdoor adventurers, I am planning a weekend camping at the riverside and need new water equipment. We will be camping right on the sandy banks of the rivers and I am worried about the river sand making way into my sleep gear and layers.

I am in search of a sturdy 50L - 65L capacity dry bag with proper backpack straps. The cheap and available roll-top bags have never worked for me due to either loss of air or getting clogged with the sandy grit on the buckles. Have you ever used the Sea to Summit Hydraulic or Patagonia Displacer bags in such an environment? Any sturdy recommendations?

EDIT: Hey thanks for the tip about the Pro Dry Pack, man they look amazing! Will definitely take a look at those for my next step up. Actually got rushed off and grabbed one of those super tough vinyl bags that I had borrowed and it was awesome. Went camping in kayak starved rock camping in my tent on the sandbars just across from the state park and keeping everything sealed up really prevented my sleeping pad from getting any beach sand on it.
