Answered Help with flash!

I’ve been trying to use a fl-20 flash with my Olympus e-m10 mkiii, but for some reason it won’t work. As you can see in the pictures, it recognizes the flash, but when I half press the shutter the flash icon turns red and it doesn’t fire no matter what settings I change. The flash isn’t broken, I’ve tried it on an old fm2n and a PowerShot g2 where it (somehow) works with no issues. Does anyone know a way to get this working?

I found very few premade options on eBay and it was $20USD for a piece the size of a MicroSD card. Before her old grip completely disintegrated I was able to roughly trace it.

Will probably scale up and cut another one ~5% larger but not bad if I say so myself!

Answered Lens for EM1 for Safari

Hi, I have an EM1 and am deciding what lens to bring on safari in Botswana.🐘🦛🐆 I’ve been disappointed with my 40-150mm F/4-5.6 (partly bc of low light).

After some research which said a 12-100 f/4 pro should handle my needs (landscape and not too distant large mammals), I bought it and am second-guessing that decision after being disappointed photographing eagles not to far away.

Reviewing Reddit comments it sounds like the 40-150 F/2.8 pro is popular but pricy.

Appreciate any suggestions and insights.

Edit - I should add that I’d prefer to bring only one lens that will cover the best range and avoid changing lenses. Also, I’d return the 12-100 if it’s not the best choice ($$$). Considering renting.

Relatedly, I’m reluctant to change lenses so am considering whether I should bring a second body. If so, should I consider buying an EM1ii or renting a different body?

Thanks!

Gear Showcase OM2S

Found this at a local thrift today with 28mm lens and auto winder for $48.00! This is probably going to be my big score of the summer. I already have a few OM lenses that I scored a few years ago and had been entertaining the idea buying an OM2 body, and this fell in my lap!

Who do you trust to do a CLA on these?

Question Pen F digital - where to send for diagnostics and repair? [EU]

Several buttons on my Oly PEN F digital stopped working, and the camera is basically unusable now.

My local distributor is not doing repairs. I contacted OM Digital Solutions (which are now dealing with the Oly's photo business, if I understand correctly) but they turned me down because they don't have enough spare parts for PEN F and therefore don't do diagnostics.

So, what to do?

It's a gread camera which I enjoyed using.

Answered Olympus XA-2 Range Focus Advice?

Thumbnail

Hello fellow Olympus/OM users!

I’ve had an Olympus XA-2 for almost a year now, and I really love the camera! There’s a lot of fun in a challenge with learning range-focusing. And I want to learn how to get better with range-focusing for closer distance shots.

On the camera, there’s 3 focus options:
1. Mountain = Far. Focus distance is 20.7 feet/6.3 meters to infinity.
2. Two standing people = Medium (colored in orange, which is the automatic setting that it gets reset to when sliding cover is closed). Fixed focus distance around 8.9 feet/2.7 meters to infinity.
3. Head and shoulders of two people = Close. Focus distance is approximately 4 feet/1.2 meters.

The one I struggle with the most is the close/option 3 selection. As you can see with my awful flower photo, it’s way closer than 4 feet. I can’t measure for the life of me when I am trying to get closer shots. From my several attempts, it seems like the camera can’t be less than 1 meter away from the object without becoming out-of-focus.

For those who have used this camera, is there any advice on how I can get better at determining what is the best option to select? It seems like it’s an easy answer: Just be better at understanding distance. But I want to hear if there’s any tips or tricks you’ve used to get the better shot.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know exactly how to reattach this piece? It has several round holes and slots. I’m not sure if it snaps in, has a hinge pin, or needs to be aligned in a specific way.

Any tips, diagrams, or links to repair guides would be greatly appreciated! I don’t want to force it and break the plastic.

Thanks in advance! 🙏

Answered Is there any video/article showing the internals of OM-3?

I know it's advertised as "magnesium alloy body", but there is no frame diagram to illustrate the construction of the camera. I also can't find any teardown/disassemble/repair video of the OM-3, despite it being in the market for more than a year.

I guess my questions are: - is the middle section of OM-3 fully plastic? or is it metal plate with plastic surface? - is the OM-3 structurally as solid as the OM-1?

Gear Review Bad Experience With Foto & Tech RM-UC1 Remote Shutter Bought On Amazon (Broke On First Use!)

Thumbnail

I have an EPL5 that the shutter button came off of and I was tired of using the touch screen so I ordered a remote shutter on Amazon for $12.99. First time using it, then when I went to unplug it from the jack in my camera, part of the plug got stuck inside the camera! When I got home I had to use pliers to get it out. Now I have to contact the seller first because according to Amazon I have to give the seller 2 days I hope they refund me. Seems this remote shutter for this camera is hard to find, can't even get a wireless one with the plug that goes into it. I would still like to get a remote shutter for this camera and others with that connector, so I can do bulb shooting. This is why I hate ordering stuff online, I would rather have a local store to go to. Yes I live not far from NYC & can go to B&H or Adorama but they don't seem to sell anything with that connector, at least not on their website. Can't believe the garbage sold on Amazon, got a bag from them that's already falling apart as well. Canceled my Prime Membership since half the items they have aren't even eligible for free 2 day shipping.

Is this how the foam damage affects the prism? I know how it looks from the eyepiece side of the viewfinder, which is clean on this OM-2n, but once I removed the focusing screen from the mirror side, I see this! That’s a camera I bought for parts. I have the same on another one too (not pictured)
