Showcase Someone joked "DOOM is the next?" so now there is literally DOOM inside Nuke

Over the last four months, I pushed my C++ skills a lot harder than usual and learned the Nuke NDK by building a sentence that should probably not exist in professional networking history: I put DOOM inside Nuke.

The result is DoomNode, a Nuke NDK plugin that runs DOOM as a generator node and pushes the live framebuffer directly into Nuke.

The idea started a year ago, after I released a few small Nuke nodegraph games and got a joking comment: "Is DOOM next?" Apparently my brain interpreted that as stakeholder feedback.

The hardest parts were fitting a real-time game loop into Nuke's render model, handling keyboard input without turning the app into shortcut civil war, and wrapping PureDOOM safely enough that the whole plugin did not collapse into undefined-behaviour confetti.

Nukepedia page

Important note: the release is Build because of the GPL PureDOOM + proprietary Nuke SDK licensing combination.

Showcase Nukomfy - Run ComfyUI workflows as Nuke gizmos

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just open-sourced Nukomfy, a Nuke plugin I've been building over the past few months.

Getting ComfyUI output into a comp usually means leaving Nuke, setting up the workflow somewhere else, and moving files by hand. Nukomfy keeps all of that inside Nuke.

The idea is a simple split of roles. A TD turns a ComfyUI workflow into a gizmo once, exposing only the knobs that matter. Artists then drop it into their comp, set those knobs, and send the job to a ComfyUI machine. Nukomfy takes care of file formats and paths, tracks every render in one place, and lets you bring the frames back when it's done.

If you work with Nuke and ComfyUI, it cuts out a lot of the manual work. It's still in early development, so bug reports and feature suggestions are very welcome.

Asking for Help / Unsolved Reversing transparency.

Hey all,

I was given a clip that needed some paint work and retouching.

It’s a static shot that I believe has been shot with a split diopter which has led to some distortion.

The request was to paint out and fix the distortion in the Antenna. I’ve painted out the ghost antenna already with ease by rotoscoping and using a clean plate (basically just frame held the start of the clip where the prawn head wasn’t in shot).

Next issue is to fix the other antenna which becomes transparent the more it moves towards right of camera.

How would one go about making it opaque?
Seeing as I do have somewhat of a clean plate; I was thinking of actually dividing the original shot with the clean plate or even using ibkgizmo which would leave me with a somewhat workable antenna.

What are your thoughts on The Foundry charging separately for the new Nuke Smart Roto? Shouldn't this just be part of Nuke X?

Showcase My first VFX showreel

I am just finishing a 6 months full-time Nuke class. I have a background in fine arts and became a senior audiovisual multimedia technician generalist. Now I am a junior compositor, who want to learn more in these troubled times. I know it's far from perfect, that's why i am looking for an internship and new opportunities. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/jonathan-heuschen-39269214_nuke-compositing-digitalartist-ugcPost-7483913807900258304-3Av3/?utm_source=social_share_send&utm_medium=android_app&rcm=ACoAAALysJ4BLCJ02ASbMRhxrqwkPLWYhvTvSXI&utm_campaign=copy_link

Solved Big Problem with Segment Anything Cattery Node

For some reason when I try to use the SegmentAnything node from Cattery, the create mask and remove mask buttons don't show up at all. I've seen a few tutorials and once you select "single mask", the create and remove buttons are supposed to appear. But the button that says "create cryptomatte setup" just stays there instead, which seems to render the node unusable.
I've seen other people online have the same problem. Does anyone know what's going and how to fix it?

Anyone using ComfyUI in actual VFX/Comp production? Let's talk workflows that actually work.

I’ve been doing comp for 10 years now, and I'm currently integrating ComfyUI (running locally) into my workflow. ( mostly for prep and paint )
So anybody have some good custom workflows guys ?

Asking for Help / Unsolved Python courses for Nuke

Hey folks,

my company is about to hit a lull of downtime and I've been considering taking a Python for Nuke course online.

I've had a look at:

- Adrian Pueyo's course: https://adrianpueyo.com/courses/python-for-nuke-artists/

- Alexander Richter's course: https://www.alexanderrichtertd.com/python-nuke

- Rebelway's course: https://www.rebelway.net/python-for-nuke-artists

all of which teach a similar thing, so it might just be a pick whichever appeals more/is cheaper. But, I'm curious as to what you folks think!

The obvious answer in my mind is to just learn Python without limiting myself to the Nuke API, I guess. But since I use Nuke everyday, I figured the concepts in these courses might be more useful as they provide context to something I'm already familiar with.

Asking for Help / Unsolved Footage

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone having great day, As I am new in vfx, I am learning for sometime, I want to create my showreel but for showreel I want quality footages or clips, for just practice I was using Actionvfx practice library but as there files are prores 422 hq mov files they are good but I think uncompressed exr will be best for show reel right as they are much better then prores

Also any suggestions or information regarding file formats for my showreel will be helpful

So can you all please suggest some good resources to get high quality exr 1080p to 4k footages, if free resources or some budget friendly resources are available

Thanks in advance 😊

Solved Paintout or 3d reconstruction?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey, I have the following clip and I want to change the gravel to asphalt, I have a 3d tracked camera and an accurate 3d reconstruction of the pathway. It seems a bit overkill to texture and render a 3d scene for this simple pan though. How would you approach this task?

Asking for Help / Unsolved Question: What is the proper way to integrate light group passes into a comp that's already reconstructed from the lighting AOVs?

Hi everyone! I just have a quick question about working with light group passes. I rendered out the usual diffuse direct, diffuse indirect, spec direct, spec indirect, etc. I have them all comped together to recreate my beauty pass, and everything there is working correctly. I also rendered out RGBA light group passes for my individual lights so I'd have extra control in Nuke.

In school we were given a special node (Grade AOV), which I believe the Head of Lighting created. It was basically a Grade node where you could choose which AOV you wanted to adjust directly within the node. Now that I'm using Nuke Indie, that node doesn't work, so I have to do it the standard way—which we were never really taught because we always relied on that custom node.

I'd love to use my light group passes to adjust individual lights, but I'm not sure how to integrate them into my existing beauty reconstruction without breaking or double-counting the beauty pass. What's the proper workflow for incorporating light groups into a comp that's already reconstructed from the lighting AOVs?

I made this as my Bachelor's thesis, inspired by movies like "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse". After handing in my Bachelor's thesis I worked more on getting it presentable and have finally publishes it. You can get it here https://www.nukepedia.com/tools/plugins/filter/brushsystem/ feel free to try it out and let me know if you have any questions or feedback.
