Video How to do carrier landings in Nuclear Option
There were many questions about carrier landings here. I've recorded this video where I tried to explain how it is done.

Modded Content (WIP) Online plane game-inspired Laser UAVs
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I made this (WIP) demo for a group of laser UAVs that will escort you and shoot down incoming missiles with lasers. I tried to nail the effect from Ace Combat Infinity with the MQ-90L drones that show up in some of the boss fights, which I think I did an alright job of, but I've still got a lot to learn as I'm relatively new to the game modding scene. I don't think this will be seeing any sort of release until I make or find new models and sound effects so I don't get DMCAed 😅

Suggestion Ultra Stealth Recon Craft?
What would everyone think about an aircraft with an RCS smaller than Vortex, largely for observation with one or two self defense weapons?
Maybe a small payload, like a cruise missile that throws out a huge RCS à la Desert Storm?
I think it would be a really fun support type role that’s cheaper and and more nimble than Medusa!

Question Someone explain landing on a carrier in this game to me like I’m a child. I have been trying almost all day. Continuation of my previous post.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Something here is uniquely difficult about landing on carriers. Like I said in the previous post, I don’t consider myself even a half average player, but I’ve landed on carriers hundreds of times in other sims. Here? No matter what I do I slide right off.
Yes I have a tail hook equipped. No I am not flaring up. I just genuinely have some sort of curse that stops me from landing on Nuclear Option carriers and it’s very frustrating.
Too fast? No, the tutorial I watched he put the thing down at almost 380. Like????? What the hell am I missing here? Genuinely more salty about this than I have been about anything else in this game. Like… I can land on a fckn carrier….

Question Are carrier landings realistic?
Genuinely having the most trouble ever with this and I’ve done hundreds on landings on carriers in DCS and WT. Not to say I’m a good or even a half average player but what am I missing? I’m extremely peeved
I’m using the glide indicator, I’m putting my vector towards the bottom of the green rectangle, and I’m putting the aircraft down hard without flaring but then I land at like 250km, see the lurching of the aircraft catching the wires, and somehow still can’t slow down enough to stay on the deck…???????
I don’t want to give up on it because my brain is telling me skill issue but I went on DCS and landed no problem. I come back here, sweating my ass of just to land on the carrier and I do what feels like everything right and just cannot. Do I need to be sub 200kmh? If so then that’s bullshit and my suggestion is maybe change the wires on the flight deck from silly string to actual cable.
Edit: Yall can keep this game lmao I can’t do it. I chalked it up to something uniquely wrong in my instance. Yes I’m getting the wire notification, yes I’m following the glide slope, yes my tail hook is down, no I’m not flaring. When I do play this game I’m just going to avoid carrier landings unless I can hover. Exceedingly frustrating experience especially with being able to land on them in WT test range and DCS.

Question Does anyone use the Tobii eye tracker for Nuclear Option?
I looked it up and saw that it is compatible, but you have to do a bit of work to be able to use it.
- Is it difficult to set up?
- How does it play? Is there any lag?
Answered!
Thank you everyone!

Question Can you no longer drag bomb nukes??
I've been out of game since the update before the Alkyon dropped (fuck it's so fun) coz of face tracking issues that are now fixed
I used to be able to drag drop nukes at mach1 from about 80m radar altitude now they're all failing on impact even when dropped from 600m radar altitude at .9 mach (will be testing to find the upper limit on speed at low altitudes)
It was by far my favourite way to kill bases and if it's no longer possible that makes me sad

Screenshot I love the Cricket, and I'm not ashamed to say it.
Not much beats popping over a hill and sending 16 AGM-48s at a convoy or really fucking up a ships day.

Modded Content AI-Powered Switchblades with computer vision and datalink
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This is a (very early) prototype of a mod I'm working on that adds Switchblade-style drones to the game, launchable from a variety of platforms starting with the UH-90. I hooked up their camera feed to an open-source visual model so they can identify what they look at, and relay the result back as a datalink contact. The UI is super bad and is just a placeholder for now, as I'm more concerned on the functionality of the drones. Would be curious to hear some community feedback on this.

Suggestion Are variants of each airframe on the roadmap?
I was thinking about this idea and did some research. The USAF operates anywhere from 2-5 different variants of each of its main fighter aircraft at present. In the past, and in other militaries with less uniform fleets, there have been even more variants of a single airframe in service at once.
I feel like this could be a nice balance/progression mechanic and a way to add some variety to the game once the main planned aircraft for each faction are fully implemented. Certain loadouts or specialized equipment such as electronic warfare packages could be restricted to certain variants of each aircraft, and you could even have certain variants tiered differently based on what they can be equipped with to smooth out the progression curve in long matches.
What do you think about this idea? Has this been discussed on any previous dev streams?

Question What even is the point of lynchpins?
Serious question. Now that they require laser designation, I really can’t find an acceptable use case for them that isn’t better fulfilled by a full loadout of AGM-48’s. You can’t saturate air defense networks with them because most aircraft can only lase up to 2 targets at a time, you can’t spam them at Shards because they get intercepted in bunches by CIWS, and for most valid ground targets outside of a lone IR SAM, they don’t pack enough of a punch to one-shot a MBT.
What is the point of this rocket anymore? I love the amount you’re able to carry but it feels pretty pointless in most situations.

Question Any games like Nuclear Option, but set in the Cold War?
Hi everyone,
I recently discovered Nuclear Option, and I'm having an absolute blast with it. What I enjoy the most are the large-scale campaigns where you're just one pilot among many instead of the center of the universe. The Confrontation and Domination scenarios are exactly the kind of gameplay I've been looking for.
The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the near-future/sci-fi setting.
I'm wondering if there's a game with a similar gameplay loop, but set during the early jet age or the Cold War. Something set in Korea, Vietnam, or Cold War Europe would be perfect.
I already know games like IL-2, Arma, and Heliborne, but none of them really scratch the same itch. I'm not looking for a hardcore simulator—I really like how Nuclear Option balances simulation and accessibility.
Ideally, I'm looking for:
- Single-player
- Cold War-era jets and/or helicopters
- Large open maps
- Dynamic campaigns or persistent battle scenarios
- A mix of simulation and arcade gameplay
Does anything like this exist, or is Nuclear Option pretty much unique in this regard?
Thanks!

Question The Soviet school of helicopter design in Nuclear Option
Hi everyone. I really like Soviet helicopters; I’d love to see something like a modernized Mi-24 for the PALA faction. I realize it’s just wishful thinking, but if it were to happen, that’s the only one I’d fly. Do you think it's possible?🤔

Question Will Torpedos be added to the game?
I am a little out of the loop on the game news, this might have been asked already. There are the ASHM missiles that are made to sink ships and fly under the radar, but probably because of my low skill these cruise missiles don't quite sink ships as effectively as, lets say, a swarm of AGMs. So this leads me. Torpedos, anyone? Are they worth adding or will they be too disruptive for the balance? Or maybe the devs already rejected the idea?
