The university says on campus accomodation is not guaranteed for exchange students. Given I’m completing exchange in spring next year, from people’s experiences what chance is there of me missing out on the dorms? To me it seems like an integral part of the Notre dame culture so would like some reassurance.

I’m planning on applying this fall with a 33 ACT (28 in math yikes, 35 English, 35 reading), for political science as my intended major. I am full IB (four HL two SL), but I worry the low math score will tank my application. Is it worth submitting my ACT score?

Hi r/notredame. I am coming to Notre Dame Law School this fall as a transfer student!

Thus far the onboarding process has been pretty easy, and I am overwhelmed by the number of opportunities I will have, especially coming from a small, regional law school. However, I am interested in student life -- particularly law student life -- more broadly. Where do *slightly* older graduate students hang out? How do NDLS students maintain work/life balance? What are the pitfalls I should be sure to avoid?

Any advice, anecdotes, and insights you guys have (whether law students or not) would be much appreciated.

I am a student at Holy Cross who is in the notre dame Pathway program, I am doing the accelerated 3+1 version, where I spend 3 years at Holy Cross before transferring to ND to get my MBA. My family makes under 200 thousand dollars a year, I know that Notre Dame has a very generous aid program, students whose families make under 200 thousand receive about half off of tuition. What I am just now learning is that this only applies to undergrad programs…

The reason I am doing the accelerated pathway program is purely to save money and avoid another year of paying for schooling. There is no way that my family can pay for full tuition/room and board/ plus other fees at ND on top of paying for 3 years at Holy Cross. Has anyone else done this? Does anyone have insight on how aid works for this situation?

Hello! I am going to be in London for the fall and I have never traveled to Europe before. I have lots of questions and was wondering if anyone could answer them for me.

What is the 10 person flat like? How many bathrooms?

What are some essentials that I need to make sure to pack?

How many fall/winter clothes should I pack? What kind of coat should I bring?

How does one go about getting cash while there, without being charged fees?

I got into a 1+3 program with ND, so I would have to start at HCC and maintain a 3.5 GPA to transfer to ND. I toured HCC, and I really wasn’t thrilled. It was smaller than my high school, and as an older student, I didn’t feel like it offered as much as ND. It was cool how Catholic it was, but even compared to SMC, it was underwhelming. The dorms were nowhere near ND, in both quality and culture, but at least I get to stay off campus. If I wasn’t on a pathway to ND, I probably wouldn’t think about it and would go for Villanova instead.

My biggest fear is that, even though I can take 1 ND course per semester and join clubs (I was thinking of KOC and cheer), I’d still feel isolated from ND. That and missing out on a year, I wouldn’t be able to adapt and fit in at ND. Especially since I do want to dorm at ND (but I’m starting to rethink that since I’d be 23-24 my sophomore year).

It is cool that they warm you up academically, especially given how difficult ND academics are, and I could knock some hard courses out, but I’m still second-guessing myself. If anyone has experience with any of the transition programs or is an older student, I’d love some advice.

To start I am retaking the ACT October 17th, my first score was a 21.

I am currently on pace to be our school of 109 people Valedictorian.
I will have 30ish ccp credits from 2 colleges on my High School transcript. 4.5 weighted GPA maybe?
I took one summer ccp course and my previous weighted GPA was a 4.490
I have been Catholic my whole life and I Love the Notre Dame campus a lot.... Probably couldn't afford the college even if I get in with it being like 80k or so a year....but How much would I need to improve my act to have a chance at getting in?
I'm interested in finance and I definitely am also interested in Ohio State too as I live in that state and have the cheaper tuition and guaranteed admission.
I have started and run a business which I think may be good to talk about on my common app essay?
Also for activities, I will have done 4 years of soccer and track. 2 years of indoor track, 3 years of working at a Local farm stand. Also apart of our high schools NHS, and For our church I have done Turkey drive once in the past.

hi, i’m an international student with no car and it is been so expensive to uber to the sb airport or chicago all the time alone. are there any group chats or anything where ppl find student who wanna go together?

Where do ND students usually find affordable used furniture and dorm items? Are there any active GroupMe chats, Facebook groups, student marketplaces, Buy Nothing groups, or places where graduating students sell or give away things like mini-fridges, rugs, lamps, vacuums, air purifiers, and storage items?

I’ll be living at The 87, and I’ve heard that South Bend isn’t very walkable during the winter. I’m not planning to buy a car, so I’m thinking of biking during the warmer months and taking the bus during the winter.

For people who live near campus without a car, how do you usually commute? Is having a bike necessary?

I am an incoming Chemical Engineering student at ND and am looking to pursue the minor in corporate practice and take some german lessons on the side. My counselor told me the suggested credit hours for first semester are 15 but i was wondering if anyone else could attest that anything above 15 is too much.

My daughter is an incoming freshman and will be living in a McGlinn quad. She and her three roommates will share a living room that measures 14'3" × 9'. They're trying to decide on a futon or small sofa, a refrigerator (around 4.4–4.7 cubic feet), and a dresser or TV stand. One of her roommates is bringing the TV.

We're planning to order the futon/sofa, refrigerator, or dresser online and have it delivered to the dorm.

Do you have any recommendations on which item would be best to have delivered? Is there a particular store, brand, or size of futon or sofa that has worked well for your students? I imagine lightweight furniture that's easy to move is especially important since everything will need to be moved out in May.

It’s super rare to find a school that has a TLM in the area, let alone on campus. I was told that ND does have a pretty large traditional catholic community that’s growing a lot on campus since Alumni Hall has the TLM. I was also told that many students go to the nearby FSSP parish, but I heard that most undergrads go to the one on campus. I was told that getting into the KOC, Children of Mary, or students for life group where really good ways to get involved in the traditionalist side of ND.

As the title says, I'm trans and bisexual, but closeted to my family. I'm trying to figure out if I should come out to my roommate/RA(s)/rector when I arrive. I'm very pre-transition, and rarely pass as male, and I'd like to think I don't pose a threat to my fellow students and the girls in my dorm. However, at a recent institute I attended, though the administration accepted me, they did remove me from my roommate just in case there were allegations (nothing ended up happening). I'd rather not come out at ND and have this happen to me, because then my parents would find out (very strict, very homophobic and transphobic, have said they will closely monitor my behavior and grades at least as a freshman). That would amount to me being outed and possibly pulled out of school or disowned.

This brings me to the basic question: is it worth it to be out at a Catholic school, and will I be ostracized by my peers or removed from my dorm if I am? I'm willing to stay closeted and let everyone assume I'm probably just a lesbian if it protects me in the long run. Thanks!

Just started working out at Smith Center, but disappointed and concerned that unlike other gyms I have joined in the past that there are only a few people who wipe down equipment after use. Is this because of visiting outside people coming in the summer unaware this is required or is this a year round issue? Anyone notice this?

I’m also currently looking for a studio or 1B1B apartment. I don’t have a car, so I’m prioritizing places near campus or accessible by bus/bike. I’m considering places such as University Edge, The Hill, Studebaker Lofts, and The 87.

If anyone has lived in or heard about these apartments, I’d really appreciate any insights.

I’m going into my first year at Notre dame, and I’d like to study abroad next summer. The cost says 9500 for the summer, but it mentioned need based aid. If I receive full need based aid for the school in general, as my sai is 0, can I expect the abroad program to be close to fully covered?

This instagram page has recently shared numerous anonymous allegations involving rape, sacrilegious acts involving religious items, and harassment. I'm not active on instagram but apparently it's a female rector from McGlinn - The Observer published on it. She's hardly older than any of the students. I'm sure some of the ARs (typically graduate students) are older than her.

I'm an alumni and am horrified. I realize there's probably legal reasons folks aren't talking about it but...what the hell?

Not to sound old but back in my day most rectors were older priests, seminarians, and nuns. Not that that makes them less likely to commit acts like this, but I am so horrified at how, and why, someone like that was in charge of a dorm and how there are so many accusations.
