Hey, idk if this is the right sub to post this on, I recently lost my job because of reasons outside my control. A big dream of mine has always been to cycle to Ottawa from Montreal, and I'd like to do it with other people, sometime this month or next. I know no one who is willing or able to do something like that, so I'm posting to ask if anyone is willing to go biking with a stranger to Ottawa.

TL;DR: I'm thinking about moving to Masson x 4e Av, and I need to know if the bikelanes there are correct for winter. My job is at St Viateur East.

Je suis en train de me chercher mon appartement, mon petit coin de bonheur, et je viens de trouver qqch qui me plait (5e x Masson), cependant je suis un peu embêté pour l'hiver.

Je suis un cycliste en tout temps (oui je fais mes arrêts et mes lumières rouges) et surtout l'hiver j'y ai besoin aussi. Ma job est sur St-Viateur E, et j'ai peur de l'accessibilité des pistes en hiver.

J'ai l'impression que je vais devoir descendre vers Rachel, puis Rachel jusqu'à St Denis et voilà, est-ce que Masson est accessible en hiver ou c'est s'assurer une débarque chaque matin ?

Salut ! À force d'en entendre parler, on se décide à vouloir découvrir c'est quoi la vie roadie à MTL.

Contexte, on est 2 cyclistes de Québec et on a quelques jours à passer dans la région de MTL, on avait ceci sur la bucketlist :

• Voir les mardis lachine
• Essayer de battre le KOM camilien houde sur la nouvelle asphalte après un warmup sur le CGV
• Aller à une ride messorem (sociale jeudi ?)

En plus de :

• Escapade à Whiteface

Avez-vous d'autres MUSTs ? Je pense entre autres à

• Boutiques (bike shops) à "visiter"
• Cafés cyclistes-friendly

Hey folks,

Visiting at the end of August and looking for a ~3.5 day route to Quebec City from downtown. I've seen the 132 and 138 routes but I would love to get up into the hills and then make my way over. The thought would be to head up the Foret Ouareau loop (bikepacking.com route) and then head North East.

Hills aren't an issue.

Interested all backcountry camping or mix of city and camping.

Je viens d'acheter mes premières chaussures à clips ainsi que les pédales (PD-EH500), mais je n'ai jamais installé ni ajusté les cales.

Est-ce qu'il y aurait quelqu'un dans le coin de Montréal qui s'y connaît et qui accepterait de me donner un coup de main pour les installer et les ajuster correctement? J'aimerais partir sur de bonnes bases et éviter de me blesser.

Refaire la chaussée d'une route de campagne étroite sans rien changer au gabarit.

Peinturer quelques icônes de vélo pour dire que ça se peut que des fois des cyclistes passent par là.

Ajouter ça à tes stats de longueur métrique de voies cyclables et de taper dans le dos.

Financer le tout avec les fonds pour la TVB.

Guys I'm trying to do uber eats deliveries with an ebike. I got a really cool setup.

Anyhow, the whole thing about whether I should bike on the road or the sidewalk (on boul Taschereau) really bothers me.

Also the app is the one that suggests using the boulevard and so, it's really hard to tweak another road. Some restaurants also are basically locked by boulevard access almost I think?

Idea 1:

On one hand, I heard my bike is considered a vehicle, but going on the boulevard I'd be sharing the road with cars going 70km/h max. (Although most seem to roll slower idk why maybe older crowd). Good thing however is that on the right side is reserved for busses and taxis, which makes it less frequent, but bad thing is when they do come up behind me (which they will), I fear becoming their object of hatred.

Idea 2:

On the other hand, the sidewalks for I would say 90% of the stretch I will be biking on, are totally empty. Illegal? Maybe. But then again the rules say I could use them if "necessary". Does feeling safe and prioritizing my life feel "necessary" enough to you guys? Also I'm not an idiot like of course if I see pedestrians I'll either use the road or slow down.

Idea 3:

Another idea I've got is to basically do a hybrid like use the road but to avoid slowing the bus people behind me I could maybe use the sidewalks when I see them in my mirror.

Idea 4:

Idea 4 is just stay on the road fk it the busses will have to change lane probably xD. If you mean equal rights then it means equal! xD

Which one makes more logical sense and is lawyer-approved? Lol. Cheers.

Curious if anyone has a suggestion for a bike route from Montreal to Granby? I see that the Veloroute Gourmande takes you down towards Saint-Jean-sure-Richelieu and through Farnham. But it looks like there’s also another bike route from Chambly to Granby (La Route des Champs I think?).

Is there a preference? Pros vs cons? Thanks so much?

I heard that I should get a bike fit to know which canyon bike size I should order so is there any place in Montreal or around it that can help me find my size for a canyon bike? I know that a bike fit is usually when you bring your bike to a place to get it properly setup but I just heard that I can also get one before purchasing a bike online to know my size.

With the spectacular Voie de Fleuve becoming a must-cycle destination for weekend warriors, the Estacade is overcrowded with bikers, walkers, runners, and scooters. There was a big accident yesterday (Saturday), I think one rider got their tire caught in the guardrails and flipped on their bike.

IMO it’s too narrow for all the varied traffic, because everyone is traveling at different speeds and looking to pass. My question- what can be done to make it safer, given its growing popularity?

Here's a thought (from an enthusiatic cyclist, no less): Fewer bike paths. Now here me out:

A network of mainly repurposed streets--yes, all of the width. Planned out ahead (well ahead) of time; something to attract cyclists from other streets; designed with general destinations in mind--think like the metro--it hardly matters where exactly those stations (let alone the actual tunnels--barring engineering hurdles, obviously) were built; all that anyone cares about now is: Where's the nearest Metro station, again?

"But we can barely build a path without residents/business/CJAD losing their shit--parking, traffic, owner's rights!"

The crux of my point is, let all stake holders of any suitable street (per the general plan established first; see above) figure out if they want to take what the city is offering (it would have to be something...) I'm not convinced it would be more expensive to "bribe" owners of say, 1 out of, what 7? streets--

--this is also my point: as a cyclist, if you're setting aside 20% of the width of most streets in a place like Le Plateau, I think it would be better for everybody--particularly me, but also you other [deleted]s, if those narrow bands everywhere were replaced with a dedicated street-width lane every 5 blocks.

Bonus points if a clever civil engineer can come up with a long term plan to rebuild the water infrastructure focusing those corridors--eventually.

This last bit is pie-in-the-sky (even more so; I know, I know...) but the thing is, cycling and walking traffic can actually continue relatively unbothered along a narrow band of street and/or sidewalk.

Cones do not bother bicycles in the least.

I have a family member currently in the process of doing a bikepacking trip. They are now in Montreal. They are in a bit of dilemma. Their bikepacking partner is having some health issues, and my family member would like to continue on to Quebec City. Is this route safe to do on her own? Campgrounds, bike paths etc. Or should she find another partner? And if so, is there anyone interested in joining over the next few days?! Or are there any groups she could join? Thank you!
