Im retired army from 2000, whats the story on beards? Not kegsbreaths weird diatribes, but it seems i see so many troops wearing beards overseas. And not the special forces types, but a lot of them?
I was in Iraq for most of 2010 and didn’t see it on average troops i worked with.

Iv had this pin for a while and I have really wanted to know what it is. Google images has said its a ww2 army brigadier general pin but there are so many different designs and looks its hard to tell if it actually is what Google says it is. I'm 33 and trying to join the military. The Navy is my first choice, but if that doesn't work out, I'll try the Army.

My record looks like this:

- Age 16 – Counterfeit iPhones (Texas) – Dismissed

- Age 17 – Felony marijuana (Texas) – Dismissed

- Age 21 – DUI with marijuana possession (Oklahoma) – Dismissed

- Age 28 – Assault with a deadly weapon (Nevada) – Dismissed

- Age 32 – Terroristic Threat (Texas) – Currently pending, but I'm waiting for the case to be dismissed.

I spoke with an Army recruiter, and he told me that as long as my cases are dismissed, I should be okay, although I understand waivers or additional review may still be required depending on the circumstances.

Has anyone here enlisted with a similar history of dismissed charges? Did the Navy or Army require a waiver, and how much did it affect the process?

Without giving away too much details but still enough to get help:

Recently I was on TDY with Army, Marines, Navy in Washington State. In total was approximately 38 members that were part of this operation, but I worked directly with 18 members (6 Air Force, 2 Marines, 10 Navy). Myself and a Navy member were the highest rank (E-6) between the 18 we directly worked with. Nobody knew each other prior to this TDY (3 weeks).

Everyone there was an absolute legend. They needed little to no supervision, and assisted the home unit (mostly civilian) in the operation we were on. Everyone impressed, at least two letters by permanent civilians sent to me praising the team.

I have the numbers for bullets but wont get into those details here.

What can I do, to give them credit for work accomplishments, but more importantly adding something to their file that will help them when it comes time to promote, etc. Is there any award that can be given, a letter I can write to their command, that will have an impact beyond being just a piece of paper with no PIF value? Anything I can petition to have added to their PIF. At my level can I write a letter of appreciation that will have any value?

I would feel terrible if there was nothing I could do for them beyond an email saying thank you. I am NOT well versed in this sort of thing. The POC and NCOIC have not been helpful in this quest.
