Discussion Will I need a rabies shot?

Hi all,

My roommate woke up to two bats in her room yesterday near Westdale and today she found a bit mark on her ankle and she got post-exposure shots. We live in an old duplex with a chimney, we share a wall but have seperate bedrooms. She said she heard the bats flying in her room around 3:00am, but went back to sleep and saw them in the morning. She sleeps with her door open but my door was shut the whole entire night, and I didn’t see any bats in my room at all.

Do you think I will also need a rabies shot? I technically didn’t have any direct exposure and I can’t find any bites on me, but just want to be sure. I will call public health but just really anxious lol

Discussion LinkedIn account

Upvotes

I’m an incoming first year and was wondering if I should finally cave in and make a LinkedIn account. I don’t really think I have much to put on there in the first place so I don’t really find a point in making one 🥲. I keep getting told that it is good to have an account for networking purposes. Realistically when will you ever need to use a LinkedIn account in uni? Is it common to have one when applying to jobs or opportunities on campus?

Courses Course Review: COMMERCE 4FN3 - Financial Risk Management with Alicia Damley

I remember when I registered for this course. I thought I was smarter than all 15 people who told me not to register for this course. If it helps you believe me more, I graduated Summa Cum Laude and got a 10 in this course I swear you’re hearing this from the mouth of a good student. I hope from the bottom of my heart people will heed my warning because I am well graduated right now and still thinking about how negligent it would be of me to not warn people.

This course is taught by genuinely one of the most incompetent human beings on this planet. She will spend every lecture talking about her glory days in the industry and provide some qualitative context about the assigned chapters. She will cover three or even five chapters in one class.

The problem is, this course is not one of those fluff courses where you talk qualitatively about this that and the other and call it a day. It is purely assessed quantitatively.

Hear me right now. This is the equivalent of a calculus course being taught like its marketing.

You are independently expected to learn and use all of the math while having ZERO quantitative work being done in class.

Your time spent in class is completely and utterly useless, it’s literally just you and a textbook written for pros (question workings skip steps, don’t provide context, etc.). Nobody attends class after a few weeks because everyone picks up the fact that there is nothing useful being taught in class and there is an overwhelming amount of content to learn.

The cumulative exam. The exam literally makes my blood boil to this day. She tells us that the first half of the textbook isn’t that important and to focus on the way more difficult second half of the textbook. Which to us made complete sense because why would she mislead us.

The cumulative final exam was just five questions. I think there was only one was from the second half, the remaining questions were from the first half almost everybody neglected to study.

Genuinely I have never been more traumatized by a course in my life. This course was so extremely difficult and took over my entire life. It doesn’t help that Alicia Damley is actually a nightmare of a professor. Please god spare yourself.

Discussion Picked Mac eng over UOFT EE, did I mess up?

Hello,

I got into mac eng and uoft electrical eng, and I chose mac eng because my parents wanted me to go there, and I heard that their co-op is comparable to uoft's.

However, long after the deadline to select programs, I read on here that oscarplus is pretty much useless for eng.

Did I screw up? I was wondering if any upper year eng students can give me their prespective on this matter.

Question Am I qualified for Provost List

Thumbnail
gallery
Upvotes

I am an incoming second year (class of 2029). I am expecting the provost list, but after the spring term, my transcript doesn’t show anything. I’m confused about whether I qualify.

I have a transfer credit from my AP score (marked T).

Fall 2025: I took 4 full courses, and 2 mandatory training courses which are marked as COM.

Winter 2026: I took 5 full courses.

Spring 2026: I took 1 full course

So I have 10 full courses, equivalent to 30 units, which are all A+. Aside from them, there are 1 transfer and 2 training courses with completed/not completed grading system. Is that why I’m not qualified? Or do I have to wait until the summer term is over so that I will have been enrolled for 12 months? From reading past posts, I have the impression that it is assessed automatically as soon as 30 units are completed.

I know some people will not care about it but it will be a valuable recognition for me 🥺.

Let me know if you have any insight! Thank you!

Question how do I get summer accommodation?

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm an incoming first-year at McMaster uni and I'm an overseas student from Asia (not international). Im planning to stay in Ontario during the summer as I need my province residency but my 8-month dorm lease ends in April. How can I get summer accommodation, and is there a way it's guaranteed? I will likely have to apply for 10-Bay in the second year as well.

Admissions Accepted into McMaster Humanities but hoping to transfer into Engineering... has anyone gone through this process

I recently got accepted into McMaster Humanities, but I’m considering trying to transfer into Engineering because it’s something I’ve always been interested in.

I know the process is extremely competitive, and I’ve already looked into the requirements (prerequisites, GPA, petition, etc.). I’m not looking for information on the basic process, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually gone through it or knows someone who has.

Any advice, tips, or things you wish you knew before trying to transfer would mean a lot. I’m planning to work as hard as I can, but I’m feeling so scared and discouraged because it's extremely competitive and feels impossible.

Admissions Do grade 11 marks count towards McMaster applications? (Health science and life science)

Upvotes

I was wondering if any of my grade 11 marks matter in my application , I’m currently going into grade 12, and it’s safe to say my grade 11 marks are completely horrible, and don’t even qualify for university application (I had health issues and family problem) but grade 12 will be so much better since everything has gotten better, I’ve been stressing about this for months now, it would mean a lot if anyone could help me and explain.

Hello! Hai! I hope everyone is doing well, I hope ur summers have been pleasant so far >.<! I was just wondering if anyone would be interested in creating a Ham Radio Club. I do not think one exists at the moment. I am not sure how popular amateur radio still is, surely there are other license operators on campus! :D

Courses uOttawa MD Bio Prereq

Hi! Based on uOttawa's MD program bio prereq:

I was wondering if BIO 1M03 can be used to fulfill this requirement, because I'm unsure as to whether it encompasses the "examples of topics" listed by uOttawa above. Can anyone who is in the program, has applied, or has friends who are in the program clarify? Thank you :)

Question How strict is the calculator rule for engineering?

I’m looking into the mandatory calculator policy for first-year engineering exams. The official info says we have to use the Casio fx-991MS.

How strictly do TAs and invigilators actually check calculators during midterms and finals for courses like MATH 1ZA3, 1ZB3, and the PHYS/CHEM classes? Do they actually walk down the rows and look at every single desk to verify the exact model, or do people manage to use other non-programmable calculators without any issues?

If they really are super strict, I’ll just pick up the MS model from the campus store, but I wanted to know the reality of how it's handled in the exam halls first. Thanks!

Question Questions about Bates residence

Hey! I'm moving into bates residence soon and I've got a couple questions from me and a friend. If anyone who's lived there before could lend some advice that would be so awesome. 😅

Which direction does room 325 at bates face?

Being an older building, are the shower pipes very loud?

Is a fan included in bates? In the what-to-bring poster from mac it mentions that fans are included in residence with no AC, is this true of bates?

Thank you!

does it count as overload if i take 3 courses in spring and 1 course in the summer? or is it 2 courses max per semester?
