Question CA changing rooms ?

CA room assignments came out two days ago and I'm still kind of sad about my placement. 😭 this is my second year Caing and I here that returners usually get what they want based on the form we filled out ... idk if it make a difference that I had to re-interview.

I'm totally fine working with a new team. I think what's really bothering me is having to adjust to a building that I honestly like less, especially because I won't have my own washroom and this year no meal also makes life harder.

I'm thinking of reaching out to Residence Life to ask if there's any chance I could be moved. I'm not super picky about which building, I'd just really love somewhere with my own washroom. I'd even be happy to stay in my assigned building if a room with a private washroom opened up. I know accommodation requests are closed now, but I also know people sometimes drop out and with an additional new building no way they filled that all up !

Do you think it's worth emailing them, or does it make it seem like I am only there for the room or just push the. The wrong way ? In my opinion I have showed how good I am in this job, hence asking isn’t a big deal.

Other I have failed

I let my thoughts and emotions get the best of me, overwhelming me to the point that I did something I shouldn't have. I had repeated thoughts that I'm not handsome enough and that I will forever be single. This created a strong urge to buy a vape, which I unfortunately did. I'm a sore loser who has no impulse control. Yes, I do have OCD, and I'm in the process of getting help and taking medication, but that's no excuse for my stupid behaviour. It's just that in the moment I felt so anxious, and although now I feel better, I feel silly at the same time.

TL;DR: I let anxiety and negative thoughts overwhelm me, leading me to impulsively buy a vape because I felt like I'd always be single. I have OCD and am getting treatment, but I still regret my decision and feel both relieved and embarrassed afterward.

Question Can I work part-time while on coop?

• Upvotes

I just started my 16 month engineering coop this summer. I used to work part-time as a research assistant with a professor before this, and he wants me to continue working for the upcoming academic year as well. The hours are short and flexible, so they don’t interfere with my coop work hours. For anyone who has similar experience, were there any issues you faced or steps you had to go through? Do I need someone’s permission? Will the coop office approve of this?

TIA!

Discussion CAMH JOB INFO

Hi there! I am looking to work with CAMH and I see they have rlly intensive training prior to starting the actual job. I was wondering if the mandatory training sessions are paid or if it is just on unpaid time, since it is a huge commitment. If anyone who has worked with them/ knows someone who has could let me know that would be amazing. Thank you!

Courses uOttawa MD Bio Prereq

Hi! Based on uOttawa's MD program bio prereq:

I was wondering if BIO 1M03 can be used to fulfill this requirement, because I'm unsure as to whether it encompasses the "examples of topics" listed by uOttawa above. Can anyone who is in the program, has applied, or has friends who are in the program clarify? Thank you :)

Courses Course Review: COMMERCE 4FN3 - Financial Risk Management with Alicia Damley

I remember when I registered for this course. I thought I was smarter than all 15 people who told me not to register for this course. If it helps you believe me more, I graduated Summa Cum Laude and got a 10 in this course I swear you’re hearing this from the mouth of a good student. I hope from the bottom of my heart people will heed my warning because I am well graduated right now and still thinking about how negligent it would be of me to not warn people.

This course is taught by genuinely one of the most incompetent human beings on this planet. She will spend every lecture talking about her glory days in the industry and provide some qualitative context about the assigned chapters. She will cover three or even five chapters in one class.

The problem is, this course is not one of those fluff courses where you talk qualitatively about this that and the other and call it a day. It is purely assessed quantitatively.

Hear me right now. This is the equivalent of a calculus course being taught like its marketing.

You are independently expected to learn and use all of the math while having ZERO quantitative work being done in class.

Your time spent in class is completely and utterly useless, it’s literally just you and a textbook written for pros (question workings skip steps, don’t provide context, etc.). Nobody attends class after a few weeks because everyone picks up the fact that there is nothing useful being taught in class and there is an overwhelming amount of content to learn.

The cumulative exam. The exam literally makes my blood boil to this day. She tells us that the first half of the textbook isn’t that important and to focus on the way more difficult second half of the textbook. Which to us made complete sense because why would she mislead us.

The cumulative final exam was just five questions. I think there was only one was from the second half, the remaining questions were from the first half almost everybody neglected to study.

Genuinely I have never been more traumatized by a course in my life. This course was so extremely difficult and took over my entire life. It doesn’t help that Alicia Damley is actually a nightmare of a professor. Please god spare yourself.

Question in course automatic scholarships

i got a couple scholarships this morning for highest gpa in my major (in-course automatically assessed). I didn’t get any senate or hooker awards, but I had a high average last year (all 12s).

I’m wondering if anyone else got the senate or hooker yet, or if more scholarships are still coming out later?

(note: this is not to brag or act entitled to the senate or hooker, and i apologize in advance if it comes off that way, i’m genuinely just curious to know if I can expect any more or if the couple i got was all!)

Academics Still haven’t received OSAP update

I sent my application in before June 30th and I still haven’t gotten any update about the funds I’ll be getting for the fall and winter. It says the school still hasn’t sent my data or something. Idk why it’s taking this long should I be worried if my OSAP doesn’t come on time I don’t know why it’s taking this long or if it’s like this for anyone else too.

Question ipad model advice for eng

hi, i'm an incoming eng student and i've been thinking of getting an ipad + apple pencil for note-taking and annotating course material. i already have a windows laptop that should be able to run all the eng software, so the ipad would just be supplementary. the price difference between the ipad and the ipad air doesn't seem worth it considering how similar most features are, which is why i'm thinking of getting the ipad.

is there anything i'm missing in terms of features? would you recommend getting the newest ipad model (A16) or would an older generation work just as well? would an older ipad air be better than the current ipad? is 128gb or 256gb better for storage? would you recommend buying directly from apple or another store like bestbuy? what about refurbished/open box?

also, if anyone has experience using a knockoff apple pencil that works really well, i'd appreciate if you could share where you got it from!

Discussion Picked Mac eng over UOFT EE, did I mess up?

• Upvotes

Hello,

I got into mac eng and uoft electrical eng, and I chose mac eng because my parents wanted me to go there, and I heard that their co-op is comparable to uoft's.

However, long after the deadline to select programs, I read on here that oscarplus is pretty much useless for eng.

Did I screw up? I was wondering if any upper year eng students can give me their prespective on this matter.

Question Private spots for therapy?

Basically the title I guess. I am starting my experience at McMaster soon and I am going to be in residence as I'm from Ottawa. I need to be able to have therapy appointments as my mental health is kinda crazy and can take turns quickly and I need regular appointments to keep stuff from building up. My therapy is basically just to vent so I can release my emotions. I am trying to go into deeper topics and try to figure out how to better handle my mental health and more deeply rooted issues. So I need a spot where I can regularly have these appointments. Are there any spots, and please note along with the answer the possibility that someone walks in. Also, I am not against having to book the place if necessary and I know that is most likely the case, but if there's any place that is simply more quiet or hidden that I can use that would be preferred, but again I fully expect to have to book these places.

Admissions Accepted into McMaster Humanities but hoping to transfer into Engineering... has anyone gone through this process

I recently got accepted into McMaster Humanities, but I’m considering trying to transfer into Engineering because it’s something I’ve always been interested in.

I know the process is extremely competitive, and I’ve already looked into the requirements (prerequisites, GPA, petition, etc.). I’m not looking for information on the basic process, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually gone through it or knows someone who has.

Any advice, tips, or things you wish you knew before trying to transfer would mean a lot. I’m planning to work as hard as I can, but I’m feeling so scared and discouraged because it's extremely competitive and feels impossible.
