Ever since I read the first page of Maze Runner, I wanted to know what was happening with the world, like the Gladers desperately wanting to know who their parents are and what happened to the world. We get lots of amazing explanations when we see Denver, the Scorch, and of course in the Kill Order with Mark, Trina, Alec, and Lana escaping the subtrans in New York when the flares happened.
But I want to know, how did the world unravel? What countries may still exist? How did the PFC evolve into WICKED, more than just secret documents and letters? I want a story, of how the world ended. The Kill Order was awesome and vital in providing that context to The Maze Runner, but it would be so cool if we had a whole actual book for when the flares happened, even the perspectives of Thomas and othersā families right before, during, and right after.
How did the governments collapse? Did some polar regions still survive and thrive, having more leverage, power, and resources? Like could Greenland have been a safe haven? What is Canada likeā¦? I wanna see the journeys and perspectives of refugees, Markās family, actual people who were in this apocalypse and how they managed to survive, it would also give the thought process behind the mysterious people who somehow decided that releasing a virus into the population would be a rational choice rather than continuing food shipments into places like Asheville and other major settlements and refugee camps.
Basically, The Maze Runner trilogy and even prequels give us the how of WICKED pursuing their insane experiments, but another book would give us the cause and reasoning behind it, the rationalizing in real time of desperate people caught between exercising solidarity or selfish survival in the midst of global apocalypse.
