Honestly, this was one of the bravest moments for Hawkeye and Trapper. Defusing a bomb, even with instructions, is no joke.

Discussion What do you think is the best part of the series as a whole?

Upvotes

For me it's the extremely efficient transition of the show from a comedy to a drama as the show continues, which i logically believe would be the realistic way people in that situation did/would react. Over time having to see and operate on people who were so young and having to watch so many of them die would traumatize even the strongest minds after so long of dealing with that on a daily basis. I also believe that this show was an enormous benefit to society because it made people who have never been in the military somewhat aware of the horrors of war from a different perspective. It also provides a lot of comedic material that shows, in my opinion, that laughter is truly great medicine when used appropriately and in that situation if you can't laugh you'd just cry. I know that obviously there were a lot of historical inaccuracies throughout the series but yeah what's do y'all think?

Did anyone ever explain why Ugly John (John Orchard) disappeared from the show after the first season?

Was Orchard’s departure voluntary, or was his character simply written out for creative reasons?

Also, why would an Australian anesthesiologist be attached to an American unit? And why did he make an appearance as a different character, an MP named Muldoon, in the season 8 episode “Captains Outrageous”?

Now guys, some of you are going back home to your wives. Some of you are going back to your sweethearts. And some, for all I know, are going back to both.

Preventative Idol

Greetings Mashers. In MASH S7 EP23 “Preventative Medicine” Hawkeye decides to remove an Army officer from the coffin filling business by giving him an unnecessary appendectomy. BJ was furious at Hawkeye’s plan but stood by him after it was done. I think I’ve asked this question about what the Padre would’ve said or done, but what do you think Radar would’ve said or done if he knew Hawkeye performed an unnecessary operation on the crazy Col. Lacy? I think we all know that Radar wouldn’t snitch, but do you think he’d respect Hawk more or less? Thank you for reading.

Did the 4077 ever win a competition fair and square?

Charles gave Radar’s mouse a pep pill, B.J. and Charles made the marines’ star bowler think he was sick, and Father Mulcahy guilt-tripped the runner from the 8063 into losing the race on purpose. Did they ever win anything without cheating?

So, how were you introduced to M*A*S*H?

The first time I saw the tv series was as a young child in the 1990s. I was visiting my cousins and the oldest put it on and told us she liked it. She'd later go on to become a nurse herself.

Years later in the early 2000s I saw a local station advertising it for 11 & 11:30 PM. I remembered she liked it, checked it out and found I greatly enjoyed it too. Within a few years I owned all the seasons on dvd with some being the collector's sets. I also own a dvd special of the last episode that comes with interviews and other special features. I also own some of the Columbia House VHS sets because Our Finest Hour is uncut on the VHS. I also have the last episode on laserdisc. I have the movie on blu-ray and a copy of it also on laserdisc.

I have several books on the show including a couple full of photos, some clothing.

If you really like the show, there's some recordings of the last episode on youtube that people made on vhs when it originally aired. I've also found some gems on archive.org

Discussion What are two characters that never met that you wish had interacted or two characters that interacted more but hadn't?

And no easy pickings like "Potter and Henry" or "Winchester and Frank" or "Trapper and BJ" I want more creative ones.

Like Rizzo and Flagg for example (Yes I edited this image, WITHOUT THE USE OF AI, it's a still from That Darn Kid with Flagg in Hawkeye's place) tbh idk if Rizzo would drive Flagg up a wall due to his laziness and stupidity from him or would Rizzo willingly become Flagg's accomplice in getting dirt on everybody in the camp due to easily being intimidated by Flagg, it'd be an interesting episode seeing them interact with each other for sure though.

I honestly wish we got more of Sidney and Father Mulcahy, both seem such calm and compassionate figures at the camp.

From the episode, Sometimes You Hear The Bullet, Hawkeye turns in an underage Marine after his friend dies.

I like that he turns in the underage Marine but I've always thought his humor is a little misplaced right after his friend died.

In response to Hawkeye saying ‘why don’t we just drop an atomic bomb’ has to be one of my favorite Flagg lines.

Discussion Peace on Us

There's something really weird about this episode.

B.J. just up and decides he wants to grow a cheesy mustache so he can, "Have a little rebellion on his face," but that's not the weird part.

Margaret, in a fit of rage after learning Penobscott ran off on her, completely kicks the office door down, but that's not the weird part.

Hawkeye grabs a jeep, cons his way through an MP checkpoint, crashes the peace talks, goes into a tirade with everyone involved about how they need to do their jobs to bring the war to an end, but that's not the weird part.

Everyone in camp throws Hawkeye a party and dyes their hair red, while also wearing red clothing, drinking red spirits, while other red decor adorns the mess tent so everything can be "anti-green" as per Hawkeye's request . . . but that's not the weird part.

No, the weird part about this episode is. . . .

The only time we see Klinger is during the two morning roll call scenes - the latter of which shows him to be just as wasted and hungover from the party as everyone else . . . even though we never saw him at the party, because he wasn't even at the party. And why not? He certainly could've added some additional flare with a red dress or something.
