TLDR I am a park ranger. I am a park ranger for a park that contains a large cave system and I work primarily inside the caves with guests and maintaining the cave. The library has been doing a summer event and myself and my coworkers have been invited to do a "reading with ranger" series. I am the last one, I think 3 of my coworkers already went. Since we work in a cave that is what we thought we should talk about.

I had some broken stalagmites and a bat skeleton I was going to bring and a fun book about kids going into a cave, but the library apparently emailed my boss and told them that they are a little tired of bats and caves all summer LOL and want us to talk about something else about being a ranger (i guess like deer or mountains or trees which is fine). And also be more interactive with the kids with an activity which I didnt know about until this morning.

I am really confused now and dont know what to do. Can anyone give me some quick advice??? I am ok just asking the librarian if they have a book they would like me to read instead, but I need some sort of activity that I have to plan for 9:30am very shortly.... I dont have a lot of time so I am here in desperation and to get some ideas on what they expect me to do. I have not been in direct contact with the librarian and my boss confidently told me "I trust you to figure it out".

Is there some kind of resource or basic info about expectations of someone who comes to read at a library that I can look at? I dont want to disappoint them.

Edit: I ended up bringing my stalagmites and bat stuff anyway, and also grabbed a bunch of our forest animal stuffed animals and a snake skin and then asked the librarian for some books related to those other topics and it went fine. It was mostly toddlers which i am comfortable with since they just want to move and be engaged. I sang a song about bunnies with my bunny stuffed animals. I talked about snakes and the forest, and also most of those kids loved touching the stalagmites anyway. We hissed and wiggled like a snake. Winged it.

The association’s ex-president responded, but has yet to find anyone to link me up with.
