Is it halal to trade in Forex with a hybrid model?

Upvotes

For those who don't know about the Forex hybrid model, it is a very famous model in Forex where a broker may open your trade in a B-book or maybe in an A-book depending upon multiple things.

My dealings with Riba

Salaam alaikum,

I wanted to share my story of how I got involved in Riba and how Allah helped me get out of this.

When I was 22, I had a large amount of savings which i used to put down for a deposit for a house. At the time, I was naive and didn't know better. In all honesty I was not as practicing as I would've liked to be.

Nonetheless, I took out a 25 year mortgage for a home in 2018 and put it on rent. A few years later I started practicing and researching more about Islam and i discovered the severity of dealing with Riba. When I read the verse about waging war with Allah and His prophet, i was shocked to my very core. I still remember that I cried alot that night and begged Allah to forgive me and find a way out for me. I couldn't believe what I had done.

I was quite hopeless at the time because I had a large amount of mortgage and 25year contract with the bank. I did as many overpayments as I could, but that hardly made a dent.

Fast forward 5 years from that night, my duas were answered!! My family members lent me the money to pay off my mortgage in full, and agreed that i would slowly pay them off in the future. The crazy part is that I never asked for that money, and they didn't even know my views on Islam and they really forced me to take the money and pay the debt off.

It has been 3 years since I paid off my mortgage and I am paying my family back. Till this day, it amazes me how Allah swt answered my duas, he helped me get out of such a deed.

I guess my message is for those who are in interest related debt, whether it be mortgage, loans or credit cards. Please do not ever give up hope in Allah, no matter deep you find yourself in debt or interest, there is always a way out, even if you cannot see it right now.

I would say the most important thing is to first acknowledge that it is a great sin and sincerely ask Allah for forgiveness and ask His help in getting you out of this. Some people who i know that are dealing with interest do not think that Riba is a sin. I wonder, how will you even ask for forgiveness if you do not think it is wrong?

I leave you with this quote from Imam Al-Ghazali:

He who seeks the world with his religion loses both. He who forsakes the world for his religion wins both

I ask Allah to save us from this sin and guide us all to the straight path. Ameen

Why is car insurance considered a necessity so permissible, yet getting a mortgage to buy a house to live in is not considered a necessity?

In Islam, conventional insurance is haram, but if local laws require it due to “necessity”, like car insurance, it is permissible.

Why is something like car insurance considered a necessity, but taking out a mortgage for the sole purpose of buying a house to live in with my family not a necessity?

Take London where I live. Plenty of people with families live perfectly fine using public transport and Ubers, yet many people still have cars despite the above options being available. My dad never had a car when I was growing up, yet my family got around perfectly fine.

People argue that renting is an option. Renting is fine when I’m young, healthy, and working, but what about when I’m old and I retire? How am I supposed to keep paying rent? If I own my home, my wife and I don’t need to worry about that, so why is home ownership not a necessity?

If anything, alongside food, a secure roof over your head is the biggest necessity no?

This ulema demonstrates mortgages are not riba: Why do you think his logic is wrong?

Whenever I share this sheikh demonstration on conventional mortgages being halal - I get downvotes. Does anyone here have an actual point disproving his logic? Other than arguments of authority, just based on the merit of his reasoning: where do you disagree with his logic specifically?

Some framing:

  • Please, no argument of authority
  • He is not saying mortgages are a necessity (Qardawi view)- which in my view is a very weak argument
  • He is not saying riba is halal, he is saying mortgages are not riba

His TLDR is - mortgages are not a loan in the islamic sense because the recipient isn't free to dispose freely of the cash. Instead, the recipient acts as a buyer's agent for the bank. The bank owns the house upon inception and then sells it back to the recipient at a premium fee. This is a Tawwakil transaction followed with a installment transaction over time. But please watch the video as I am paraphrasing.

HALAL ETF with questionable campanies ?

Assalamu alaykoum my brothers and sisters of the ouma, I had this question for years now and it’s keeping me from placing my money on any Shariaa ETF. Knowing that most of the complaint shariaa ETF has some questionable companies on them, doesn’t make haram for us to place our money on? I’m specifically concerned about IT companies with software being user for war crimes or mass surveillance operations.

Please help me clear this and if you have any arguments don’t hesitate to express them.

To Canadian Muslims in the GTA interest in Halal mortgages

So the second largest political party in Ontario is gauging interest in Islamic mortgages. They are hosting an event on July 29 in Scarborough. The current legislation in Ontario isn't conducive for Islamic mortgages, as a result profit rates are higher and the limited lenders can't source funds at lower costs.

We need new laws to facilitate the Islamic mortgage industry. Let's show up and show our are interest.

IQ Option is it legit for Arab / Muslim users? Islamic account, Arabic support and withdrawals

Salam. I'm looking at trading platforms that make sense for Arab/Muslim users, especially if you care about Islamic account terms. IQ Option keeps showing up because I see Arabic support, demo mode and swap-free account options mentioned, but I don't want a halal sticker only. I'm not looking for a generic IQ Option review. I want to understand whether IQ Option is legit for Arab users specifically: Islamic account terms, asset rules, deposits, withdrawals, verification, Arabic support and what happens if something is unclear. Anyone here tried it from Saudi, UAE or another MENA country?

Why don’t many Muslims understand how credit cards work?

Many Muslims (at least online) mistakenly think that using a credit card automatically means paying interest every month. In reality, with most credit cards, if you pay your full statement balance by the due date every month, you generally won’t be charged any interest on purchases.

I even see some of those Dawah bros and Salafi preachers claim that credit cards are haram, like this is just blatant lying at this point, devoid of any nuance, and it needs to stop.

Is it halal to make websites like these?

Assalamu alaikum

I am a programmer and I am really close to becoming a web developer and I was wondering if it is haram to accept clients that want their pics on their websites

Like for example a woman wants a portfolio with their picture on the main section of the website? Will I be sinful for making it?

Have we thought of this

Islamic finance is growing, but I've been thinking about something.

Yes, we can invest in US stocks. But does that really help strengthen the Muslim world? Or are we simply growing wealth in economies that don't necessarily benefit our own?

Yes, we can invest in Shariah-screened stocks, but can we truly feel 100% at ease knowing many of these companies still rely, to some extent, on interest-based financing and carry significant debt?

What if there were a platform that allowed Muslims living in the West to invest directly in Muslim economies—countries like Pakistan, Malaysia, and Türkiye—by funding real businesses and tangible assets, in a way that more closely reflects the spirit of trade and investment practised during the time of the Sahabah?

Could this be a step towards building stronger Muslim economies while giving investors an alternative that feels more closely aligned with their values?

I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts. Do you think there's a need for something like this?

I'm studying Quant Econ and finance, AMA

I'm bored and I think it'll be fun to answer questions. I've noticed that some people are a bit confused or just want to learn more about everything finance. I also feel like it's important for Muslims to understand how finance works in our modern economy. feel free to ask me about anything- finance, econ, investing, saving etc.

Without exposing too much about myself, here's some basic info about my background:

I'm 19, a girl, and American. I attend one of the top schools for Economics and finance in America. I'm also studying computer science at the same time. I'm graduating early (next year) with a BS in both. I'm hoping to attend law school right after and become an anti trust litigator.

I intern at a very well known fintech company as a data analyst. I really like it. It's one of the main reasons why I want to go into anti trust in the future (and also because it's my favorite topic in econ), but that's a bit unrelated lol.

I wonder whether trading is haram or halal ?

Nowaday, so many people are trading by using MT5 with brokers, which are related to Forex actually that is haram in islamic world, in my country. When i ask them to explain whether they fully understand what they are doing or not, they simply try to avoid my question by saying “ bro, i can’t explain it and i am not someone who make rules or decide if it is haram or halal. However, i always promote them to take its haram sides and halal sides into account.

I want to ask a lot of questions from you guys who trade in a hala way. How can people trade in a halal way ? Why there is no rules for that if it is haram ? I always try to listen ppl who actually know islam better than anyone else and they say it is haram, but my point is there are still ppl who actually trade online in their country. What does this mean ?. When ppl doing that stuff even though it is haram, don’t they actually care about what is gonna happen to them next ? Or are there any ways to trade online in a halal way ? If there some body have to explain it to me. Please leave you own opinion and try to explain this field better.

UIF Profit Sharing not available to visa holders in the U.S.

I tried opening a UIF Profit-Sharing Savings Account and kept getting rejected by the online application, so I called UIF directly to ask why. They confirmed that the account is currently only available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Other visa holders in the U.S. are currently not eligible, even if you have an SSN and a U.S. address.

The representative also said they are, inshallah, hoping to expand eligibility to more visa holders in the future.

This is pretty disappointing because UIF seemed to be one of the few genuinely Sharia-compliant alternatives to a conventional high-yield savings account while still offering competitive returns. I've heard of Wahed, but the issue is that it's not FDIC-backed, and I would rather invest in ETFs myself.

Has anyone on an F-1, H-1B, or another nonimmigrant visa found a good halal alternative for high-yield cash savings in the U.S.?

I built a full platform for halal investing, more than 700k requests. Feedback welcome.

I’m a Muslim investor and I was tired of juggling five
different tools to manage a compliant portfolio. So I built one place that does it all.

- Screen any stock or ETF against 5 methodologies (AAOIFI, DJIM, FTSE, MSCI, S&P), with the purification rate
- Audit your whole portfolio for compliance in one click
- Find halal alternatives when a stock fails
- Plan a DCA, track watchlists, read Islamic finance news
- An AI assistant that does deep research and all of the above just by chatting

It's both a web terminal and a developer API.

So far: 12,000+ stocks and ETFs explored, 700,000+ requests served, users in 33 countries, all organic.

Free to try and vote on ProductHunt: https://www.producthunt.com/products/halal-terminal-api

I'd really value the community's feedback, especially on the methodology and what's missing.

Best Halal ETF for Saving for a short term.

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,
I am saving for Hajj for myself and my wife, Insha’Allah, with the goal of going in 2027 or 2028. So far I’ve saved around AUD 14,000, and I am planning to continue adding to it every month.
Rather than leaving the money in a regular savings account, I’d like to keep it invested in a halal way while we save. Since our investment horizon is only about 1–2 years, I’m looking for something that balances capital preservation with reasonable growth.
What halal ETFs or other Shariah-compliant investment options would you recommend for this timeframe? I’d really appreciate hearing what others have used for similar goals.
JazakAllahu Khair.

Child JISA

Salaam everyone UK based.

Can you recommend the top JISA's and why you took them.

Is there any comparison sites, or Islamic comparison sites.

Any advice, as I'm new to this, always thought ISA were Haram, but never thought I could just give the interest away to keep the money locked in.

Or do you pay the interest once the child has access to it?

Portfolio advice

Hello! I'm investing for the long-term, only $100-200/month. I like ETFs for the simplicity, but I don't feel right investing in SPUS, HLAL etc considering their top holdings are MSFT, GOOGLE, NVIDIA as they are in BDS list. So I've been researching and looking and here's what I'm trying to start doing from now on:

50% MNZL

30% SPWO

15% WSHR

5% SPSK.

Now I know they still have some BDS companies, but they're more of consumer products rather than the weapons and infrastructure issues that the other ones have. MNZL ofc as the most viable SPUS alternative of the bunch, then SPWO for global exposure, WSHR for CAD exposure, then small amount of SPSK so that it slowly snowballs into dividends.

I dont invest in Gold, as I'd rather buy physical bullions.

Any advises?

Infotech group

I recently started a job at InfoTech as a C++ Developer. After joining, I came to know that the company develops trading platforms for capital markets. My work is on the communication of trades between different systems and exchanges. The platform supports trading in equities, futures, and bonds.

I'm concerned about whether working in this role is halal, considering that it facilitates these types of trades. Could you please guide me on the Islamic ruling regarding this job and whether it is permissible for me to continue in this role?

Is Shaving beard Haram or Makruh?

Assalamu Alaikum, dear Islamic community.

I am a Muslim from the Philippines, and I would like to ask for your advice regarding shaving the beard in Islam.

I am a 20-year-old incoming nursing student. My school requires students to follow a proper grooming policy, which includes keeping the face clean-shaven. I am already enrolled, and my classes will start on August 3.

I know there are different scholarly opinions on this matter. Is shaving the beard considered haram or makruh, especially if it is required by my school and I have no choice if I want to continue my studies?

I would really appreciate answers with evidence from the Qur'an, authentic hadith, or the views of recognized scholars.

Jazakum Allahu khayran.

I am still relatively new and would welcome suggestions to make any changes. For reference, I am based in Canada and hope to save for the long term

Best way to store £60,000 with fast access?

As per the title, I want to store around £60,000 but I would want access to it within a month or so but not sure which platform would give best returns. I'm in the UK, and so far the best thing I've found is GatehouseBank giving 2.95% AER for an EasyAccess account that gives me access to it all the time.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I think many Muslim families stop one step too early financially.

Salam, Growing up, most of us heard the same advice: Study hard. Get a stable job. Stay out of debt. Save your money.

There’s nothing wrong with that advice. It helped many of our parents build stable lives. But after hearting from so many Muslim families, I started wondering whether many of us treat savings as the finish line, when it’s really just the starting line.

The problem is that money sitting in a checking account slowly loses purchasing power because of inflation. Saving protects you from spending your money, but it doesn’t protect your money from losing value or grow it.

What I’ve noticed is that many other communities use saving as a way to accumulate capital, then put that capital to work through businesses, real estate, partnerships, or other investments. They don’t stop at saving.

As Muslims, not every investment is an option because we avoid riba and excessive speculation. But that still leaves many halal ways to build wealth.

Even many of the Sahabah (RA) were successful merchants, landowners, and business partners. They didn’t leave their wealth sitting idle, they used it productively while remaining within the limits of Islam.

To me, financial independence isn’t about luxury or chasing money. It’s about having more freedom to worship Allah, spend time with family, support Islamic institutions, and give more in charity.

I met a person at an investing conference, he said “if your money is not working for you, then you will be working for your money”. That’s a powerful statement.

I’m curious where others stand on this.
Do you think our community focuses too much on savings and not enough on and not building wealth halal way? If so, what’s the biggest obstacle, fear of investing, uncertainty about what’s halal, or something else?

I'm developing Islamic investing strategies for free while working in Islamic finance Pt2; Strategies are live & ARK invest results show promise

Salam all, I hope you’re all well. Thanks for all the feedback so far. As some of you know I’m putting together information on Shariah investment strategies ( rihaliq.com ). The first batch is based on the holdings of successful fund managers. The basic thesis is that copying their holdings over long periods have in the past given outsized returns and that this can be replicated through their shariah screened versions.

I will be covering my initial findings and where I think they can be useful for sourcing investment ideas as well as breaking down individual strategies and how they performed vs their non-screened counterparts (and potentially why). Firstly I’d like to break down the most interesting of the four strategies I screened which is Cathy Wood’s Ark Innovation fund.

Core strategy metrics:

As shown in the screenshot. The Halal CAGR (rebalanced every time the fund discloses) since 2020 is substantially higher than the non-screened portfolio at 11.5% versus 9.3%.

What’s more interesting here is the market sensitivity, measured by Beta, of the Halal portfolio is almost exactly the same as the non-Halal one (1.90 vs 1.91). In addition to this, the Sortino ratio (measuring returns versus downside volatility) is substantially higher at 0.82 versus 0.7. Meaning, on major metrics, the strategy of copying Ark Invest filings with the Halal screening performs better without additional risk.

My best guess (though not 100% certain) is that these better risk adjusted returns may come from Islamic screens promoting companies that invest more aggressively (lower cash and interest bearing securities are required) and take on less leverage (<30% debt to market cap).

Utility for portfolios:

Even if you don’t follow the strategy of copying Ark’s trade. These stocks included in the portfolio may have some weight behind them which could help you find good additions to your portfolio (provided proper due diligence is done).

Cathy Wood tends to hold stocks for longer periods and has more fundamental conviction in the portfolio’s names (compared to an event driven trader or short term trader who may only have this for a short time).

This could potentially give a pre-screened list of Halal investment names in the growth industry. Potentially, working as a strong addition to your portfolio investment sourcing pipeline. The strategies are all accessible now ( https://rihaliq.com/investors

Let me know what you think, what strategies should be added, or should extra datapoints be added that you’d find useful?
