Home Insurance Landlord Policies

Insureds who have landlord policies are some of the most clueless and inattentive people, and with each landlord policy they become a little worse.

Applying for AT&T with company car

Upvotes

I'm applying for a job in Washington state that requires driving a company vehicle, and I'm hoping to get some insight from anyone who's been through a similar situation.
About 3.5 years ago, I was arrested for a DUI, but it was ultimately reduced to **Negligent Driving**. I also received a speeding ticket from the same incident. Since then, I've had no other violations, my license has been fully reinstated, and my driving record has been clean.
The recruiter told me they think I should be okay because both violations came from the same incident, but they weren't 100% sure how the company's motor vehicle review or fleet insurance process works.
For those of you who have experience with company vehicle jobs or fleet insurance reviews:
Would something like this typically result in an automatic denial?

Or is it more common for it to go through an individual review since the violations were from the same incident and happened several years ago?

Has anyone here been approved for a company vehicle after a reduced DUI or Negligent Driving conviction?

I'm just trying to get a realistic idea of what to expect. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Home Insurance CA Homeowner’s Insurance: AAA + Fair Plan vs. Farmers/Liberty Mutual

Upvotes

My homeowner policy in California is up for renewal, and my premium with Liberty mutual has doubled over the last 2 years. I'm shopping around for quotes, and I'm seeing the following scenarios play out for similar coverages:

1) Stick with Liberty Mutual - $3800/year.

2) Farmers - $2600/year - requires installation of an auto shutoff leak detector on my water main (~$1000 one-time cost)

3) AAA ($700) + CA FAIR ($1400) - $2100/year. The key caveat here is that AAA requires CA FAIR for fire/smoke coverage unless I bundle auto - AAA's auto policy was prohibitively expensive compared to my existing GEICO coverage, so I'm not entertaining that.

Assuming similar coverage amounts for Farmers and AAA/CA FAIR, are there any reasons NOT to go with AAA + CA FAIR and go with a Farmers/one all-in policy provider instead?

Should I get a lawyer?

Upvotes

In California. I was stopped at a red light and a truck drifted 2 lanes over and hit me head on, totaling my truck. Insurance is offering me about 5k less than what I paid for my truck. Is it worth getting a lawyer to go after him for more? New to all of this so not even sure if that’s possible. Thanks

Post car accident help

Upvotes

I got T-boned today and the other driver’s car was pretty badly injured but mine looks totally OK. I filed the claim through my insurance and hers and even set up repair and inspection for my car with a rental…. However, as time passes, I really don’t want to be without my car and it looks totally fine. The only thing I want fixed is one tire that’s all scraped up and I have a buddy with a tire shop. Can I cancel the appointment to get my car fixed and tell them that I’m just gonna bring it to a different shop and have him just change the tire for me?
If I don’t use one of their shops and utilize the rental, is that going to change my claim and or make my insurance higher?
What’s in my best interest as far as paying the least out-of-pocket?

Do I not have an access to my own medical records??? I called and they told me it's inaccessible after 3 yrs.. they said they have the records but they can't for my privacy (which I don't understand since I'm the one who's requesting it)

Is there ANY way for me to have full access to my medical care history from the insurance?

I had this insurance back in 2019 from my school - no longer a member since 2020

Auto Insurance Car insurance with junior license

Hello! I'm 16 and getting my junior license in about 3 weeks. I'm in upstate NY and I was gifted a 2016 Toyota Camry recently. The problem I have is that my dad doesn't want me on his insurance plan. My mom is on his plan so I can't ask for her help either. Apparently I can't get my own insurance because of my age and I can't enter a legally binding contract. Does anyone have any solutions or ways for me to get insurance? I don't care about price or how good it is, my main priority is getting my car legally on the road to drive to work. Thank you in advance for any advice!

Edit: I forgot to add that my camry has been in really good hands for the past 10 years and has about 169k miles. My parents know I'm a safe driver but my dad says that he's not willing to because of the cost (I offered to pay the difference).

Pet insurance Will my insurance work?

Last week on Friday, my dog had a seizure and I took her to a vet ER. I couldn't afford the blood work at the time since it was $1,000. So they sent me on my way with some anti seizure pills, I just got pet insurance today but after getting it I read that they can deny pre existing conditions, if my dog wasn't technically diagnosed with a pre existing condition, do you all think the insurance would still go through?

Insurance nightmare.

So my wife was involved in an accident about 6 weeks ago. It was minor, she was the second vehicle hit (vehicle in front of her got slammed into and pushed them into her car), she wasn't at fault, and the car was still drivable. The front of the car was cosmetically damaged but overall the car drove fine. But she was involved last week in a different accident, again not at fault (other drivers were sighted at the scene in both accidents). However this accident was enough to total out the car as it was much more significant, and this time was a rear end collision. She's fine in both instances but we are both extremely frustrated.

First accident the driver had Allstate, second driver has State Farm, we also have SF, just a different agent.

The estimate for the damage in the first accident was 11k, fine. It was scheduled to go in literally next Monday to finally get repaired. They were paying for a rental, etc. But SF is saying due to the existing damage the car isnt worth as much as it normally would be, and aren't paying out enough to cover the lease buy out.

We just leased this car in Feb 2026. Allstate is saying since the car is being totaled out by a different insurance agency they are washing their hands of the situation as they aren't paying to repair a vehicle thats been totaled. Gap insurance (with MBFS) is saying since the value of the car was diminished due to existing damage they aren't liable, they would only cover if the car was not previously damaged.

So we are currently now left holding the bag for almost 17k in negative equity here (SF came to their number citing preexisting damage and accident history on the car itself reducing the value). However I feel Allstate should cover this or at least the 11k damage and maybe some of the diminished value claim.

Our agent says we should make an un/under insured claim for the difference and they will go after Allstate, but that it will count as an "at fault" on our State Farm policy if we do, and they also might deny the claim. We have not consulted a lawyer yet, but feel it's getting to that point. The driver of the first vehicle is totally judgement proof and going after them legally will just be a waste of time. But we also feel Allstate is still liable here for something. But this is a new one for me. Any ideas what the standard course of action is here? Thanks!

Traffic school - worth attending for a cell phone use violation?

Hi everyone,

(CALIFORNIA)

My wife received a ticket because she was holding her cell phone at a light...regardless of her wearing a headset, it is a violation as follows:

Cell phone Use while Driving

A citation under California Vehicle Code Section 23123(a) means you were cited for driving a motor vehicle while using a wireless telephone without a hands-free device. California has strict "no-touch" distracted driving laws. Merely holding your phone for any reason while the vehicle is in motion or stopped at a red light constitutes a violation. [12345]

Penalties and Costs

  • Base Fines: The statutory base fine is $20 for a first offense and $50 for each subsequent offense. [1]
  • Total Out-of-Pocket Cost: Assessments and court fees significantly increase the final cost. Expect to pay between $150 and $250+ total at the court window. [12345]
  • DMV License Points: A first offense will not add points to your driving record. However, a second conviction within 36 months adds 1 point to your California DMV record, which will likely trigger insurance premium increases. [1234]

If she goes to traffic school (online), the citation is removed from her records. This first offense doesn't add a point and won't impact insurance.

My question is: Given you cannot attend traffic school for 18 months (if she does it this time), is it worth attending to get this removed? Or does she risk a more serious violation should she get another ticket within 18 months?

Hope this question makes sense. Thank you!

Claims Related Progressive denying renters insurance claim

So awhile back I had a washing machine cause some water damage, had to submit a claim since it was bad enough and it also damaged the unit below mine. My land lord immediately had a restoration company come out and dry all the water in both apartments (it is a duplex house, I'm on top floor) so the damage was as little as possible. The damage was contained to my laundry closet upstairs and the bedroom downstairs thankfully thanks to the good work by the restoration company. I didn't realize it but my renters policy states that any water damage in my unit is not covered, but water damage to other units is covered, which sucks because I got rentets insurance thinking something like a leaky washer causing damage would be covered but apparently not. Claim filed, a couple weeks go by and progressive finally sends an adjuster downstairs. I didn't know at the time but my land lord was in contact with the adjuster so she knows what damages are downstairs, and the adjuster marked down damage to the celing (tape peeling from drywall so needs new tape, mud, and paint), and new carpet, all just in the downstairs bedroom. Progressive called me a couple weeks after the adjuster came, saying the "adjuster" found no damage. So I asked them if they will cover the restoration comapy cost still and they specifically told me yes. Turns out my land lord called me today, saying progressive has denyed the whole claim because "progressive" found no damage. Since the adjuster (THEY SENT BTW) was 3rd party so they said they have the right to disregard what the adjuster said since they were 3rd party. So they did that and said they found no damage and denied my whole claim. Can they even do that? This is just insane to me. I've already emailed asking to speak to management and they emailed back saying their supervisor is out for the week and will call me next week. Am I able to get written documents from the 3rd party adjuster and have someone reprocess my claim? Progressive has pictures of everything and the report from the 3rd party adjuster so they know there was water damage. Progressive has definitely lost me as a customer for renters and auto after this.

Auto Insurance Question about a No-Fault Accident (State Farm + Geico)

Hi all.

I've been dealing with the hell of car insurance for the first time in my life, for the past month. I'm running into some issues and I'm really hoping someone on this subreddit is knowledgeable enough to help me.

On June 20th, my girlfriend was driving my car (I was feeling sick halfway through the drive, so she took over). She hit a deer while driving, it was unavoidable. it shattered the front windshield and she was cut by tons of glass, but not enough to be hospitalized.

My girlfriend and I both have full-coverage insurance. I have State Farm (the car involved in the accident) and she has Geico (the driver involved in the accident). I started by filing a claim with State Farm, they took weeks to process the claim and then denied it.

I forwarded the denial letter to Geico over three weeks ago, and Geico is still "processing the claim". I have been bugging them over the phone relentlessly. I called Geico today and a customer service employee told me that from the claim specialist's notes, it seems like they "aren't looking to move forward with the claim". She told me that doesn't seem right, so she will try to speak with them and get back to me today.

I'm panicking because I don't know what to do if both insurance agencies deny the coverage. The entire front of my car is smashed (hood, headlights, windshield). Repairs and storage expenses will be completely unaffordable.

What should I do if the claim is denied by Geico?

Rental Car Insurance Question

While in Ireland - Another rental car crashed into the back of my rental car. I returned the car today and was billed 5000 Euros.

The driver of the car at fault had a car from Hertz. I have the claim number with Hertz.

I have rental car excess insurance with CarInsuRent. I filed a claim and they spotted that while I was charged EUR 5,000, according to the rental agreement, I am only liable to pay up to EUR 3,000.

They also advised that my policy with them covers my liability up to $2,500, which is the coverage that I purchased. Thus my claim was approved for $2,500.

How can Alamo/Enterprise justify charging a customer in excess of the excess?

Any suggestions on how to recover the difference from the driver at fault/Hertz?

What’s up with homeowners Insurance in Texas

First, I’ve been with State Farm for 40+ years. No claims. They’ve TRIPLED my annual premium? So I shop (apples to apples)…and Everyone is within $200 (.06% variance). So my first question is are our prices set by some government authority, or is there widespread pricing collusion? Second: I get mailers from companies offering to insure me for close to my old premium, and when I go thru their “quote” process their price is the same as all others…seems like a classic case of “bait & switch”. Is this legal?

Advice please

Background:
I am a third-party claimant in Texas. My parked
2009 Mercedes CLK with 61,000 miles was hit by PURE Insurance's policyholder on 6/25, who admitted full liability. PURE is currently trying to declare my vehicle a total loss and cut off my rental car coverage as of July 22nd.

My Priority: I have zero interest in keeping the rental car long-term or dragging this out. My sole focus is getting my personal car repaired. The only reason I am asking for a rental extension is because PURE's administrative delays left me without a resolved claim, and I need basic transportation while this gets sorted out.

The Breakdown & Numbers:
• Actual Cash Value (ACV): $10,261.00
• Repair Estimate: $8,026.65
• Salvage Value: $1,400.42
• Statutory Threshold (Texas): Texas Transportation Code § 501.091(15) uses a strict 100% threshold ($10,261.00). Repair + Salvage equals $9,427.07 (91.87% of ACV), which falls below the mandatory total loss requirement.
• Damage: The car sustained localized cosmetic damage and remains in excellent pre-accident condition otherwise.

Key Issues & Delays:

• 21-Day Administrative Delay (CCC ONE
Reports): PURE's adjusters repeatedly provided flawed CCC ONE market valuation reports containing incorrect options, bad condition ratings, and wrong comparables.
I had to continually push back to get these corrected.
• Delayed Corrected Valuation: I did not receive an accurate CCC ONE report until July 20th—21 days after the process began.
• Rental Car Cutoff: PURE is ending my rental car coverage on July 22nd, penalizing me for a 3-week delay caused entirely by their need to fix their own valuation mistakes.

Questions for Advice:

  1. Total Loss Challenge: Given that the figures sit at ~92% of ACV (under the Texas 100% threshold), what are the most effective legal or regulatory levers I can use to force PURE to approve the repair path?
  2. Rental Extension: How can I successfully demand an extension of my rental car coverage based on insurer-caused administrative delays?
  3. Escalation & TDI: Is filing a complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) my best immediate move, or should I take specific intermediate steps with their management first?
  4. General Strategy: What else can I do or document to give myself maximum leverage in winning this case?

Parked in Parking Lot incident (FL)

Looking for advice on a frustrating insurance situation:

My adult daughter’s car (in Florida) was legally parked, completely stationary, with the back drivers side passenger door open as she and her passengers were getting in the car to leave. Another driver pulled his truck out of the spot next to her and his truck's rear fender struck her open door. They exchanged insurance info; she had no damage so didn't file a claim. He filed a claim with his insurer (Progressive). When she asked, my daughter’s own insurer (State Farm) told her to fill out Progressive’s online intake form, which she did but she was never called or interviewed directly.

There were three witnesses in the car with her at the time. Only one was ever sent a witness form by Progressive, and that form was confusing enough that the witness didn’t complete it. No witness (including our daughter) has ever spoken directly with an adjuster.

Those in our daughter's car all heard the other driver say "it's not your fault, I just need your insurance to file a claim". He also said it was a "wild/crazy accident of timing".

Weeks later, she gets a text that Progressive found her at fault and closed the claim. We pushed back, made calls, and finally got a supervisor on the phone. The supervisor’s position now is that it’s basically “he said, she said,” and dismissed our witnesses as “personal” rather than “independent” (they were passengers in her car, not strangers). They did concede that a fault determination is “fluid” and can be changed.

Meanwhile, her own insurer (State Farm) gives conflicting info: Their claims people say she could file her own claim through her policy (which would let State Farm fight the fault battle via subrogation), But the local office states given she has no damage nor was she moving or driving, she wouldn't need to file a claim.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone dealt with a “personal vs. independent witness” distinction before? Is that a real standard, or an excuse to disregard evidence?

  2. Is it worth having her file her own claim with State Farm at this point just to shift the burden of proof to the insurers?

  3. What’s the next real escalation step if Progressive won’t budge (state insurance department complaint, small claims, something else)?

  4. Any tips for getting a stationary-vehicle-struck-by-moving-vehicle fault determination taken seriously when the insurer never interviewed anyone?

Any input from people who’ve navigated something similar or even work in this area of expertise would be appreciated. Thank you!

Auto Insurance Considering buying a dump truck for personal use, insurance options?

I currently have a chevy 2500 which is insured through my personal auto policy. I understand that the following will not be able to put on a personal policy because of gvwr.

Im considering buying a bigger truck, like maybe a chevy 5500 or a Ford f750 or some other larger than a 1 ton 6 wheeler dump truck to do work at my house and also some property I own. As of right now, the vehicle would be not for hire, not to say that wouldn't ever change I suppose. I have a class A cdl and drive trucks larger than this daily so I'm not concerned with the commercial vehicle aspect, I'm wondering what my options would be for insurance and honestly if its worth it to even bother.

Hypothetically if I buy a dump truck like this I won't use it daily, maybe weekends. I dont want to pay a crazy commercial insurance premium for a dump truck I use 5-10 days a month. Would something like this be affordable insurance wise to use casually?

Home Insurance Home Insurance and Dog Bites

My dog got attacked outside a neighbor's house by their dog when it got loose from their front door. My dog has a fractured arm from the incident and we incurred some vet bills.

The neighbor texted me saying her homeowner's insurance agent is saying that because I said my dog needs follow-up care and I will have more vet bills over the next few months, that she needs to wait to open a claim so they can reimburse me all at once, because of her deductible.

None of this makes sense to me. Are there policies that have deductibles on liability coverage? By this logic, if my dog needs continuous treatment for the next year, then I need to wait until the year is over to be reimbursed for all the bills at once.

I asked her to call her insurance agent back and explain that I want to be reimbursed for the bills I have already incurred and for her to open a claim now for the incident. I have yet to hear back.

Does anyone with experience with dog bites and home insurance policies have any advice or recommendations on how to handle this? Thanks!

Auto Insurance Advice for auto insurance deductibles and insurance picked collision centers saying car is fixed but not road safe

Hello! First time on this reddit, first time poster. I am looking for opinions on Auto Insurance policy.

For some background:

I'm from Ohio, USA. We have a deductible of ~$1000 USD that we have to pay due to being a victim in a hit and run.

This hit and run happened April 4th in a parking lot. We weren't in the car, we came back to the front end of the car destroyed and unable to drive. We have a dashcam that caught the person who hit the car, but no license plate was recorded. The property it happened on had unreliable cameras as well. We have to pay the deductible due to the inability to find the party who hit our car.

Insurance was contacted and a claim was submitted on April 7th due to Easter weekend. Car was towed roughly April 13th (or that week of) after insurance had enough pictures and videos, police report was finalized (we were 1 of 8 hit and run victims Easter weekend in our city) and insurance picked the auto repair shop/collision center.

Today is July 22. Yesterday, we were called and told the car was done. We went to look over paperwork and give the car a look over, was told it was inspected 3 times and wasn't road safe due to the addition of fog lights that were added in years ago. We looked over the car and a side skirt was missing. We found it in the car running from the trunk to the dashboard. We refused to take the car and told them repairs are not complete. This is the third time this place has said the car was complete and it was not.

We're frustrated, down to one car and both work full time jobs. Everytime they say the car is done we have to take leave to go inspect due to working 9-5s without much room to shift schedules earlier. I also don't trust this center now.

What can be done/ what would you do in this situation. We haven't paid the deductible due to services incomplete, and I feel with how much of a shitshow this has been for 3+ months we shouldn't have to pay the entire deductible, especially if they deemed the car not road safe due to added in foglights. No matter how often we contacted the collision center communication wasn't reciprocated and I no longer trust the work they've done to this car. Do we take it to insurance who picked the collision center initially?

Health Insurance Question about ending coverage and baby

I have health insurance on my family through my small business. We are in the process of closing and will be ceasing operations Dec 31 of this year. I am pregnant. My due date is Dec 7. My question is, I know I have 30 days to add my baby to our policy (intend to do so essentially immediately) but with the closure of our business and us cancelling insurance effective Dec 31, I don't believe I'd have paid a premium toward new babys coverage so would they in fact be covered during the month of Dec? Hopefully that all makes sense. Thanks in advance to smarter individuals than me

Auto Insurance UK national driving in the USA

Hi!

I am a UK national with a full clean driving licence travelling to South Dakota to visit my partner and I want to drive his car, I will only be there for 2 weeks.. how would I go about getting car insurance, and what companies do foreign driver insurance?

I’m completely stuck as every time I go online companies want my “US information” when I don’t have any!

Thanks:)
