What’s up with homeowners Insurance in Texas

First, I’ve been with State Farm for 40+ years. No claims. They’ve TRIPLED my annual premium? So I shop (apples to apples)…and Everyone is within $200 (.06% variance). So my first question is are our prices set by some government authority, or is there widespread pricing collusion? Second: I get mailers from companies offering to insure me for close to my old premium, and when I go thru their “quote” process their price is the same as all others…seems like a classic case of “bait & switch”. Is this legal?

Diminished Value

My wife was involved in an accident which she was not at fault. Heard about diminished value claims and was wondering if it was worth it to pay an online site $350 to do paperwork and file a claim. The other insurance company is going through a third party adjuster since they are in Tennessee

2020 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium

$5100 in damages.

Insurance nightmare.

So my wife was involved in an accident about 6 weeks ago. It was minor, she was the second vehicle hit (vehicle in front of her got slammed into and pushed them into her car), she wasn't at fault, and the car was still drivable. The front of the car was cosmetically damaged but overall the car drove fine. But she was involved last week in a different accident, again not at fault (other drivers were sighted at the scene in both accidents). However this accident was enough to total out the car as it was much more significant, and this time was a rear end collision. She's fine in both instances but we are both extremely frustrated.

First accident the driver had Allstate, second driver has State Farm, we also have SF, just a different agent.

The estimate for the damage in the first accident was 11k, fine. It was scheduled to go in literally next Monday to finally get repaired. They were paying for a rental, etc. But SF is saying due to the existing damage the car isnt worth as much as it normally would be, and aren't paying out enough to cover the lease buy out.

We just leased this car in Feb 2026. Allstate is saying since the car is being totaled out by a different insurance agency they are washing their hands of the situation as they aren't paying to repair a vehicle thats been totaled. Gap insurance (with MBFS) is saying since the value of the car was diminished due to existing damage they aren't liable, they would only cover if the car was not previously damaged.

So we are currently now left holding the bag for almost 17k in negative equity here (SF came to their number citing preexisting damage and accident history on the car itself reducing the value). However I feel Allstate should cover this or at least the 11k damage and maybe some of the diminished value claim.

Our agent says we should make an un/under insured claim for the difference and they will go after Allstate, but that it will count as an "at fault" on our State Farm policy if we do, and they also might deny the claim. We have not consulted a lawyer yet, but feel it's getting to that point. The driver of the first vehicle is totally judgement proof and going after them legally will just be a waste of time. But we also feel Allstate is still liable here for something. But this is a new one for me. Any ideas what the standard course of action is here? Thanks!

GEICO denied my rental car claim because my uninsured friend was driving. What are my options?

My location: Boston, MA. Accident happened in Nevada.

Hey everyone, I’m in a very stressful situation and could use some advice on how to fight an insurance denial and what kind of lawyer I need.

The Situation:

  • I rented a car in California from Thrifty with a drop off in LAS Vegas. I was the sole authorized driver on the rental agreement.
  • We were about 30 minutes away from the airport when I became too exhausted to drive safely.
  • Because it was a safety hazard, I stayed in the passenger seat and instructed my friend to take the wheel.
  • My friend does not have their own personal auto insurance policy.

The Accident:

  • While my friend was driving, we were involved in a collision with another driver. (100% at fault)

The Insurance Denial:

  • My personal auto insurance is a standard GEICO policy based in Massachusetts (Boston).
  • I filed a claim, but GEICO just notified me that they are denying it entirely. Their reasoning is that because my friend was not an authorized driver on the rental contract, it breached the agreement and voided my GEICO coverage for the rental.

My Questions:

  1. Permissive Use: Since I was physically in the car and explicitly gave my friend permission to drive for safety reasons, doesn't my MA policy's "permissive use" override the rental counter contract breach? How do I appeal this denial with GEICO? I don't see anything specific in the policy.
  2. Rental Company Subrogation: I know the rental company will likely come after me for the physical damage and "loss of use" since the contract was breached. Without my friend having their own insurance to act as a buffer, how exposed are my personal assets?
  3. The Other Driver: Does Thrifty state minimum liability coverage cover this situation at the worst case up to the state minimum?
  4. Lawyer Recommendations: What specific type of lawyer should I be looking for in Nevada? And if you have any recommendations, please let me know.

Any advice on how to handle GEICO's denial or navigate the rental company's recovery department would be hugely appreciated. Thank you! 😭 ❤️

Had a blowout on my vacation driving my RV, the tire on the Cargo trailer we were pulling. Trying to see if it is a covered loss?

I remember driving over something in the road and then the tire shredded. We called roadside through my insurance Progressive. We waited on the side of the interstate for six hours and ten different roadside companies took the job then cancelled. Then the said get your own help and we will reimburse you. We had a company come and replace the tire on the side of the road. Sent invoice for reimbursement and they denied it as not covered. I would think at least the labor would be covered even if the tire wouldn’t be?

Then I was thinking the Emergency Expense coverage on the RV may cover the expense since we were stranded because of the tire. We own the cargo trailer but it isn’t insured separately. The Emergency Expense coverages is described as follows: Pays transportation, hotel expenses, food and fuel if your vehicle is damaged during a trip, your vehicle becomes disabled due to a non-covered loss, or an evacuation is required and leaves you without the ability to continue using the vehicle as a residence. For RV's used for recreational (pleasure) use only: Pays up to specified limits for reasonable temporary living facilities, food, fuel, transportation and the cost of returning the RV if it becomes disabled due to a covered loss, your RV becomes disabled due to a non-covered loss, or an evacuation is required and leaves you without the ability to continue using the RV as a residence more than 50 miles away from the primary residence. $750 is included when physical damage is selected. Up to $2,000 is available for Pleasure users. For RV's used as a primary residence: Pays up to specified limits for reasonable temporary living facilities, food, and fuel if your RV becomes disabled due to a covered loss, your RV becomes disabled due to a non-covered loss, or an evacuation is required and leaves you without the ability to continue using the RV as a residence. $750 is included when physical damage is selected. Up to $7,500 is available for these users. Note: These definitions are intended only as a guideline. All terms and coverages are defined solely by the policy. Coverage limits, deductibles and certain exclusions mav apply.

Any input? We paid $180 for the tire and $180 for labor.

Traffic school - worth attending for a cell phone use violation?

Hi everyone,

(CALIFORNIA)

My wife received a ticket because she was holding her cell phone at a light...regardless of her wearing a headset, it is a violation as follows:

Cell phone Use while Driving

A citation under California Vehicle Code Section 23123(a) means you were cited for driving a motor vehicle while using a wireless telephone without a hands-free device. California has strict "no-touch" distracted driving laws. Merely holding your phone for any reason while the vehicle is in motion or stopped at a red light constitutes a violation. [12345]

Penalties and Costs

  • Base Fines: The statutory base fine is $20 for a first offense and $50 for each subsequent offense. [1]
  • Total Out-of-Pocket Cost: Assessments and court fees significantly increase the final cost. Expect to pay between $150 and $250+ total at the court window. [12345]
  • DMV License Points: A first offense will not add points to your driving record. However, a second conviction within 36 months adds 1 point to your California DMV record, which will likely trigger insurance premium increases. [1234]

If she goes to traffic school (online), the citation is removed from her records. This first offense doesn't add a point and won't impact insurance.

My question is: Given you cannot attend traffic school for 18 months (if she does it this time), is it worth attending to get this removed? Or does she risk a more serious violation should she get another ticket within 18 months?

Hope this question makes sense. Thank you!

Auto Insurance Getting sued

Hello I was at fault for a car accident the other driver and passenger didn’t sustain major injuries either did I. I am now being sued for more than half a million dollars for non economical charges by the passenger of the vehicle not the owner of the vehicle the passenger he was underage 17 when the accident happened. How often do these actually go to court will I go to court and have to pay all that amount or is this something that most likely won’t go to court. I was just served. I haven’t informed my insurance company yet.

Car insurance company gave me a refund, even after they didn’t charge me.

I canceled my car insurance to switch to a better insurance company. They told me I would be charged the amount on July 14th but then refunded 7 to 10 business days later. I didn’t get charged at all and just received a refund. Do I call them or just wait to see if they charge me?

Advice please

Background:
I am a third-party claimant in Texas. My parked
2009 Mercedes CLK with 61,000 miles was hit by PURE Insurance's policyholder on 6/25, who admitted full liability. PURE is currently trying to declare my vehicle a total loss and cut off my rental car coverage as of July 22nd.

My Priority: I have zero interest in keeping the rental car long-term or dragging this out. My sole focus is getting my personal car repaired. The only reason I am asking for a rental extension is because PURE's administrative delays left me without a resolved claim, and I need basic transportation while this gets sorted out.

The Breakdown & Numbers:
• Actual Cash Value (ACV): $10,261.00
• Repair Estimate: $8,026.65
• Salvage Value: $1,400.42
• Statutory Threshold (Texas): Texas Transportation Code § 501.091(15) uses a strict 100% threshold ($10,261.00). Repair + Salvage equals $9,427.07 (91.87% of ACV), which falls below the mandatory total loss requirement.
• Damage: The car sustained localized cosmetic damage and remains in excellent pre-accident condition otherwise.

Key Issues & Delays:

• 21-Day Administrative Delay (CCC ONE
Reports): PURE's adjusters repeatedly provided flawed CCC ONE market valuation reports containing incorrect options, bad condition ratings, and wrong comparables.
I had to continually push back to get these corrected.
• Delayed Corrected Valuation: I did not receive an accurate CCC ONE report until July 20th—21 days after the process began.
• Rental Car Cutoff: PURE is ending my rental car coverage on July 22nd, penalizing me for a 3-week delay caused entirely by their need to fix their own valuation mistakes.

Questions for Advice:

  1. Total Loss Challenge: Given that the figures sit at ~92% of ACV (under the Texas 100% threshold), what are the most effective legal or regulatory levers I can use to force PURE to approve the repair path?
  2. Rental Extension: How can I successfully demand an extension of my rental car coverage based on insurer-caused administrative delays?
  3. Escalation & TDI: Is filing a complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) my best immediate move, or should I take specific intermediate steps with their management first?
  4. General Strategy: What else can I do or document to give myself maximum leverage in winning this case?

ADVICE/HELP PLEASE: If someone filed a claim against me for minor fender bender, would it help me to pay for damages myself or will my insurance still go up?

I was involved in a minor fender bender and gave my insurance info to the other party but asked if I could pay privately but they still contacted my insurance and filed a claim against me immediately after leaving. Would it help me if I contacted my insurance and pay for damages myself or will my insurance still go up? Or what is my best option or the best way for me to go about this situation?
Florida insurance is really expensive and it took me a while to find affordable coverage.

Seeking advice from someone knowledgeable/in the field of car insurance or from someone who has personally dealt with this situation before, especially in Florida.

Geico terminated my auto insurance and heres why..

Geico is asking that I provide documentation so that they reverse their termination on my policy. Their reason for termination is/was the uber rideshare bs which is not true. Anyway, the documentation they are asking for is "Usage details for your vehicle". Is this document supposed to be some where in my account? Or is this a document that I must generate myself? What would I even add to the document? "Nu uh, I use it for work"??

Should I get a lawyer?

Upvotes

In California. I was stopped at a red light and a truck drifted 2 lanes over and hit me head on, totaling my truck. Insurance is offering me about 5k less than what I paid for my truck. Is it worth getting a lawyer to go after him for more? New to all of this so not even sure if that’s possible. Thanks

Auto Insurance Is it worth filing a diminished value claim? 2022 Honda CR-V, not at fault, $1,220 repair estimate

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice on whether it's worth pursuing a diminished value claim once my vehicle repairs are complete.

I have a 2022 Honda CR-V EX-L AWD with 23,433 miles.

Another driver backed into the front of my parked vehicle, and their insurance company (Hanover) has accepted 100% liability, so I won't be paying anything out of pocket.

I took the vehicle to a Honda-certified body shop, and the repair estimate is $1,220.46. The repairs include:

  • Replacing the OEM front bumper cover
  • Replacing the lower front bumper cover (CAPA-certified aftermarket part)
  • Removing and reinstalling both headlights (they are not being replaced)
  • Removing and reinstalling the fog lights
  • Painting the new bumper
  • Pre- and post-repair diagnostic scans

There is no frame or structural damage, no suspension damage, no airbag deployment, and no headlight replacement.

I realize the accident will likely appear on the vehicle history report, so I'm wondering whether it's still worth filing a diminished value claim even though the damage appears relatively minor.

For those who have been in a similar situation:

  • Did the at-fault driver's insurance pay a diminished value claim?
  • Approximately how much did you receive?
  • Is it common for claims like this to be denied or for the insurance company to offer $0 because the damage was minor?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!

Home Insurance HO-3 policy: Tree fell without wind, fence covered but swing set denied. Am I reading my policy correctly?

I have a Farmers HO-3 homeowners policy in North Carolina.

A healthy-looking tree in my backyard fell on a calm day (no windstorm or other obvious weather event). It damaged:
- My fence
- My wooden playset/swing set

The insurance company told me:
- Tree removal is not covered because the tree wasn’t felled by a covered peril.
- The fence is covered (although the damage is below my deductible).
- The swing set is not covered, also because the tree wasn’t felled by a covered peril.

I’ve read my policy and I’m trying to understand the swing set denial.

For Coverage A/B, the policy covers direct physical loss unless excluded. For Coverage C (personal property), one of the named perils is “falling objects.” I don’t see language saying the falling object itself had to have been caused by a covered peril.
I’m not questioning the tree removal denial—that seems clear from the policy. I’m just trying to understand whether I’m missing something about the swing set. Is there a standard interpretation of “falling objects” that would exclude a tree that simply fell on a calm day? Or is it reasonable to ask the adjuster where the policy requires the tree itself to have fallen because of a covered peril?

I’d especially appreciate input from adjusters or agents who handle HO-3 claims.

Auto Insurance Advice for auto insurance deductibles and insurance picked collision centers saying car is fixed but not road safe

Hello! First time on this reddit, first time poster. I am looking for opinions on Auto Insurance policy.

For some background:

I'm from Ohio, USA. We have a deductible of ~$1000 USD that we have to pay due to being a victim in a hit and run.

This hit and run happened April 4th in a parking lot. We weren't in the car, we came back to the front end of the car destroyed and unable to drive. We have a dashcam that caught the person who hit the car, but no license plate was recorded. The property it happened on had unreliable cameras as well. We have to pay the deductible due to the inability to find the party who hit our car.

Insurance was contacted and a claim was submitted on April 7th due to Easter weekend. Car was towed roughly April 13th (or that week of) after insurance had enough pictures and videos, police report was finalized (we were 1 of 8 hit and run victims Easter weekend in our city) and insurance picked the auto repair shop/collision center.

Today is July 22. Yesterday, we were called and told the car was done. We went to look over paperwork and give the car a look over, was told it was inspected 3 times and wasn't road safe due to the addition of fog lights that were added in years ago. We looked over the car and a side skirt was missing. We found it in the car running from the trunk to the dashboard. We refused to take the car and told them repairs are not complete. This is the third time this place has said the car was complete and it was not.

We're frustrated, down to one car and both work full time jobs. Everytime they say the car is done we have to take leave to go inspect due to working 9-5s without much room to shift schedules earlier. I also don't trust this center now.

What can be done/ what would you do in this situation. We haven't paid the deductible due to services incomplete, and I feel with how much of a shitshow this has been for 3+ months we shouldn't have to pay the entire deductible, especially if they deemed the car not road safe due to added in foglights. No matter how often we contacted the collision center communication wasn't reciprocated and I no longer trust the work they've done to this car. Do we take it to insurance who picked the collision center initially?

Claims Related Progressive denying renters insurance claim

So awhile back I had a washing machine cause some water damage, had to submit a claim since it was bad enough and it also damaged the unit below mine. My land lord immediately had a restoration company come out and dry all the water in both apartments (it is a duplex house, I'm on top floor) so the damage was as little as possible. The damage was contained to my laundry closet upstairs and the bedroom downstairs thankfully thanks to the good work by the restoration company. I didn't realize it but my renters policy states that any water damage in my unit is not covered, but water damage to other units is covered, which sucks because I got rentets insurance thinking something like a leaky washer causing damage would be covered but apparently not. Claim filed, a couple weeks go by and progressive finally sends an adjuster downstairs. I didn't know at the time but my land lord was in contact with the adjuster so she knows what damages are downstairs, and the adjuster marked down damage to the celing (tape peeling from drywall so needs new tape, mud, and paint), and new carpet, all just in the downstairs bedroom. Progressive called me a couple weeks after the adjuster came, saying the "adjuster" found no damage. So I asked them if they will cover the restoration comapy cost still and they specifically told me yes. Turns out my land lord called me today, saying progressive has denyed the whole claim because "progressive" found no damage. Since the adjuster (THEY SENT BTW) was 3rd party so they said they have the right to disregard what the adjuster said since they were 3rd party. So they did that and said they found no damage and denied my whole claim. Can they even do that? This is just insane to me. I've already emailed asking to speak to management and they emailed back saying their supervisor is out for the week and will call me next week. Am I able to get written documents from the 3rd party adjuster and have someone reprocess my claim? Progressive has pictures of everything and the report from the 3rd party adjuster so they know there was water damage. Progressive has definitely lost me as a customer for renters and auto after this.

Unanesthetized Root Canal > Dealing With Openly Insurance

I saw a few posts here that were archived, but nothing I could comment on. My experience with them in the last month has been SO bad that I feel the need to warn other people who might be Googling and looking for reviews.

Our broker switched us over to Openly two years ago after our initial carrier kept hiking our rates by $500 each year. He said it was very reliable and tech friendly.
Then in June, we found water damage in our house and hired an inspector. The whole back wall of the house was soaked from what we later learned was a crack in the roof and an overflowing gutter, likely from the thick snowpack and melt our part of the country experienced last winter. It needed to be opened up, dried out, mitigated if mold was found (oh boy, was it) and sealed back up. I found a local contractor in my town who had great reviews and said they could do the entire process in a week, and would work with Openly, who they had never heard of.

I opened a claim with Openly and immediately it was weird. The adjuster said that they disagreed with the contractor's decision to only run dehumidifiers after the wall was opened up and, while it was within my rights to choose whoever, they strongly encouraged me to have one of their 'approved' contractors come out and quote the job for 'additional documentation.' Doing this delayed getting work started, but I got the sense that they would pay out easier this way, so I did it. Their contractor called to schedule and had no idea who I was, where I was, and was under the impression that we were dealing with a basement water heater flood. My adjuster had sent them the wrong file, from a different claim they were working on, and they weren't even local. The adjuster then disclosed that it was their first week, and they were learning as they went through my claim. Okay. Sure. Mistakes happen.

We then get a different contractor out, who is part of their approved franchise and has terrible online reviews from hundreds of people. He also agrees that dehumidifiers aren't necessary until the wall is removed, and tells me 'Oh. You have Openly. They're the worst.' He warns me that he can do the remediation immediately, but that buttoning up the wall is a different wing of the company and sometimes takes months, then offers to patch my roof that day so no more water gets in, because it's about to be independence day weekend and we're due for rain. I say okay to just the patch. He sends some kid up on a ladder and they do the work. It rains, we don't see more water, think it's okay.

The approved contractor never sends a quote. I get tired of waiting while more mold grows in my walls. I tell the adjuster we're going with my contractor. They ask for quotes and paperwork, which we send. My contractor goes up on the roof, looks at the patch, and tells me that the approved guy used the wrong material, cemented over the brick in my chimney, and now it will cost them more to remove it and repair that bad work..... done by people who were only allowed on my property at Openly's insistence.

My contractor completed all work in the promised time, submitted all paperwork to the adjuster, but we have yet to be paid. Likewise, when I raised the issue of the approved contractor's mistake, the adjuster said they would need to get back to me, allowed the approved contractor to claim that our roof was 'decades old' (it was replaced fully three years ago), and send us a bill for over $1000.

DO NOT GO WITH OPENLY. They make the entire process even more stressful than it should be, pressure you into making bad decisions, and drag their feet on payout. Deeply unprofessional service that is not worth the small savings you might net in premiums.

Auto Insurance Considering buying a dump truck for personal use, insurance options?

I currently have a chevy 2500 which is insured through my personal auto policy. I understand that the following will not be able to put on a personal policy because of gvwr.

Im considering buying a bigger truck, like maybe a chevy 5500 or a Ford f750 or some other larger than a 1 ton 6 wheeler dump truck to do work at my house and also some property I own. As of right now, the vehicle would be not for hire, not to say that wouldn't ever change I suppose. I have a class A cdl and drive trucks larger than this daily so I'm not concerned with the commercial vehicle aspect, I'm wondering what my options would be for insurance and honestly if its worth it to even bother.

Hypothetically if I buy a dump truck like this I won't use it daily, maybe weekends. I dont want to pay a crazy commercial insurance premium for a dump truck I use 5-10 days a month. Would something like this be affordable insurance wise to use casually?

Auto Insurance Progressive claim has been stuck on this message for months now

I got into an accident in January 2026 and there was hardly a scratch on my car or the other person's car but they still filed an insurance claim so I had to do the same. Progressive was my insurance at the time of the accident and I worked with a rep as they asked me for evidence etc. For about 4 months now when I check the claim I just see a message that says:

"Status Closed" "Review your payout summary: We're working on your claim. Check back later for payout info."

What does this mean? Might be a silly question but I've never filed an insurance claim before and I haven't heard anything else or had any updates from Progressive in months.

Pet insurance Will my insurance work?

Last week on Friday, my dog had a seizure and I took her to a vet ER. I couldn't afford the blood work at the time since it was $1,000. So they sent me on my way with some anti seizure pills, I just got pet insurance today but after getting it I read that they can deny pre existing conditions, if my dog wasn't technically diagnosed with a pre existing condition, do you all think the insurance would still go through?

DUI driver literally flew into our shop

Hi all!

I’m looking for advice from anyone who’s dealt with a commercial property claim.

About 3 weeks ago, an intoxicated driver drove into our business, causing major damage. His vehicle was stuck in the building for 5 hours as law enforcement and fire department worked on removing it. The structure is damaged, our inventory is damaged, and the interior (carpet, paneling, etc) as well. Even the electricity is not working.

The building owner is working with his insurance on the structural repairs, however based on our lease, I am responsible for the interior, as well as the windows, doors, glass, frames, and electricity.

My insurance company is telling me my policy mainly provides Business Personal Property (BPP) coverage (up to $70,000). So coverage only for my damaged inventory but does not cover any repairs.

Some of my losses include:
Inventory
Display cases/showcases
Interior flooring
Interior wall paneling, drywall, and paint
Interior electrical work
Metal security bars on windows and doors that I paid to install
Demolition and debris removal
Business interruption/lost income while the store is closed

We’ve had a delay in receiving the DUI drivers insurance info and I finally received it and opened a claim today.

Questions are:

If the DUI drivers insurance max coverage is only 100K for example. & the building owner is going after him, & I’m going after him for the damages my insurance won’t pay out, & my insurance is going after him for subrogration. What happens if the damages exceed his coverage amount. They split the money between us all?

Also, when the incident first happened- we opened a claim with our insurance because we didn’t have the drivers insurance info. My insurance company told me it’s usually better to continue my claim through them first, let them pay what my policy covers, and then they’ll pursue subrogation against the at-fault driver’s insurance afterward. They said if I try to deal directly with the other driver’s insurance now, it could slow everything down because they’ll conduct their own investigation and request additional documentation.
For those who’ve been through this or work in insurance:
Would you continue with your own insurance first and let them handle subrogation, or would you focus on pursuing the at-fault driver’s insurance directly?

Since the damage is so extensive, it’s been difficult identifying what products were damaged during the incident. I’ve tried my best to write each and every item in excel. Will they ask me to match specific invoice dates to the items I’m claiming? I provided them with all the invoices I have. Hundreds. But it’s tough to identify what products were left from which invoices. For example, we have glass products we bought in 2023, that we still had on display.

Any advice on the situation would be so helpful, thank you!

Looking for lawyers online

I, 20M am currently in a situation where I was in a car accident about a month or two ago and I’m
1: trying to decide if it’s worth it to get a lawyer
2. Figuring out the best way to do that.

There are obviously all those sites online that boast 24/7 help and helping you find and get connected with a lawyer and I’m just wondering what the catch is/if anyone has advice on how effective or worth it they are? I know it will vary depending on who I speak with but I guess I’m just wondering in a general sense.

NOT looking for legal advice, just wondering if anyone has experience with these online forms/sites.

EDIT: my injury’s were a re aggravation to a previously broken bone that happened 2-3 weeks prior to the accident, whiplash(head/neck/back pain), and I’ve been speaking with a therapist about having PTSD from the accident aswell.

short term disability

I know this is a very niche question.

I’m in Michigan but work in Indiana and I’m already pregnant (due around March 2027). My employer does not offer paid maternity leave or short-term disability.

I’m not looking for opinions on whether standard short-term disability usually excludes pregnancy—I already understand that.

My question is:

Does anyone know of ANY individual insurance product in the U.S. (short-term disability, salary continuation, indemnity, income protection, etc.) that can still provide income benefits for an existing pregnancy? We JUST got married. This was not planned and if we were planning to get pregnant I would’ve got short term disability insurance.

I’m specifically interested in products with unusual underwriting, guaranteed issue, simplified issue, or policy language that doesn’t automatically exclude an existing pregnancy.

I’m looking for actual carrier names or policy names, not general advice. If you know of a broker or carrier that might be worth calling, I’d really appreciate it.

Home Insurance Home Insurance and Dog Bites

My dog got attacked outside a neighbor's house by their dog when it got loose from their front door. My dog has a fractured arm from the incident and we incurred some vet bills.

The neighbor texted me saying her homeowner's insurance agent is saying that because I said my dog needs follow-up care and I will have more vet bills over the next few months, that she needs to wait to open a claim so they can reimburse me all at once, because of her deductible.

None of this makes sense to me. Are there policies that have deductibles on liability coverage? By this logic, if my dog needs continuous treatment for the next year, then I need to wait until the year is over to be reimbursed for all the bills at once.

I asked her to call her insurance agent back and explain that I want to be reimbursed for the bills I have already incurred and for her to open a claim now for the incident. I have yet to hear back.

Does anyone with experience with dog bites and home insurance policies have any advice or recommendations on how to handle this? Thanks!
