I think I found an inconsistency with the screen orientation when using the detachable display.
If you look at the photos from left to right:
Photo 1:
When the screen is attached, I can hold the camera horizontally while rotating the screen to face me. This lets me record vertical video in full 4K 60fps, and the preview fills the entire screen. This is exactly how I want to shoot.
Photos 2 & 3:
After detaching the screen, I keep the camera horizontal, but when I rotate only the detached screen vertically, the interface behaves differently. It doesn’t work the same way as when the screen is attached.
The only way to get 4K 60fps with the detached screen is to keep the screen horizontal, but then the preview becomes very small because I’m shooting vertically.
What I was expecting is:
Camera held horizontally
Detached screen held vertically
Full-screen vertical preview
4K 60fps, just like when the screen is attached.
Is this the intended behavior, or is it a software bug? It feels like the detached screen should behave exactly the same as the attached screen in this scenario.
Thanks!

Luna Ultra I shot a cinematic short film entirely on the Insta360 Luna Ultra

I wanted to see how far I could push the Insta360 Luna Ultra beyond typical vlogging and travel content, so I used it to create a cinematic short film.

The film follows Julia through nature and explores the feeling of escaping everyday noise, reconnecting with yourself and finding a place where you feel completely free.

Everything was shot on the Luna Ultra. I’d genuinely love to hear what you think of the image quality and cinematic look especially from other Insta360 users.

InstaFrame

Upvotes

I've just gotten the Insta360 X4 Air in the door, and I'm trying to figure out how to switch it into InstaFrame mode? Like, I need a really dumbed-down guide. The guide provided by Insta360 shows it on the camera, but another guide shows it on the phone and I can'treallyfigureout either of them? And I haven't really figured out how to even get into the menu?

I'm kinda desperate, I'm going on vacation tomorrow and was hoping to film a bit from my dog's viewpoint 😅

Support Feature Request: Advanced Reframing Tools

Hi, I'd love to see the following features for power users

  1. Always available export in at least TIFF format, maybe others

I don't know what settings your JPG export uses, studio doesn't say, but it is an intrinsically lossy format and there is already enough quality loss due to the spherical -> rectangular projection that I don't really want to add a pointless drop in quality by exporting as a jpg before importing it into some other software for touch ups and ultimately exporting it again.

  1. Manual horizon

Please add a "manual horizon" stabilization mode to photos. This will leave the stabilization setting with three modes: "off", which uses the camera's intrinsic frame of reference, "automatic", which uses the algorithmically determined horizon position, and "manual", which allows the user to fine tune the horizon position with a tool that can arbitrarily set a metadata tilt on the media object. The insta360 air app does have this feature, but as far as I can tell it's not compatible with the files the X5 produces.

  1. Better options when exporting as equirectangular panorama

Related to #2. In EP mode, the viewport will not let you make any framing adjustment at all. This is especially frustrating on otherwise-great photos where the auto-horizon is off by a little bit, resulting in a S shaped wavy horizon. Attempting to make any adjustment will switch back to another projection mode. And I KNOW that studio is internally capable of this, because it works correctly with stabilization on and off - the only reason it can't do a panorama with any arbitrary horizon is that there's no way to set the horizon.

  1. Fine control over aspect ratio when exporting

Being limited to specific export aspect ratios is silly. I should just be able to adjust the export region to any aspect ratio I want. In a perfect world, I would be able to simply choose a projection mode and then drag a region onto the surface of the sphere, or adjust the size of a region already drawn by dragging the edges. I know I can just export and then crop, but that's a heavyweight solution for such a basic editing task.

Has anyone ordered a insta 360 from Amazon and got it sooner than the Estimated delivery date? The earliest it arrives is a day after my birthday and if there was a small chance, I get it sooner.

10ft Insta 360 Carbon Fiber stick for motorcycle? What do people mean the top spins freely?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Considering this stick for my sports bike. However I just saw somebody mention that the top spins freely once the camera in secure? Like basically once the camera is secured to the stick, it can still spin around freely in any direction and there for, wind and cornering could in theory cause the camera to spin around while riding. Is this true!?

Can anybody recommend another good stick if this is not the one?

PrintForLuna Luna Multi-Angle camera Rig Pro for #PrintForLuna Contest.

Post image
49 Upvotes

I finally submitted my entry for the Luna 3D printing contest and honestly, even without the contest this rig was well worth designing and printing. You can mount the Luna to the rig using a 1/4” camera mounting screw along with the 1/4” thread handle that comes with the Luna. Alternatively, you can use it without the thread handle with Velcro straps.

As you can see in the photo, the rig was tested with a real Luna to check for stability and durability. The locking mechanism of the elbow joint is super stable and prevents any wobble. To change the elbow angle, you can quickly remove the “Lock” and “Key” pieces, set the new angle and then lock it back in place.

The Luna detachable screen locks into place on the camera rig handle using the same locking pin system on the main Luna gimbal body. It stays secure until you use the 2 red side buttons to release it.

Multi-Angle camera rigs are very helpful for getting low angle shots and other cinematic movement plus the location of the detachable screen mount makes it much easier to monitor your footage from a comfortable angle.

I hope this model is helpful for those of you using your Luna for cinematic shots or in scenarios where it’s helpful to maintain the Luna at specific angles.

Luna Ultra - Indoor Wrestling Show

I just got the camera in June and thought a local wrestling show was a good way to test the camera performance in low light, along with their zoom capabilities. I also tested the auto editing here.

P.s. Dont wanna get into trouble for self-promotion by linking it to my socials, so I uploaded the video here. Let me know if linking is OK.

Discussion Sony a6700 + Insta360 Mic Pro: best gain settings for an indoor talking-head setup

I am trying to find the cleanest gain settings for an Insta360 Mic Pro connected to a Sony a6700 through the 3.5 mm input.

The recording is for an indoor talking-head video in a normal untreated room. The HVAC may be running, so the room is not completely quiet.

Current Mic Pro settings:

  • Cardioid
  • Weak noise cancellation
  • Low cut on
  • TX gain: 0 dB
  • RX gain currently being tested
  • Auto gain off
  • Receiver connected directly to the Sony a6700

Am mainly trying to determine the best balance between:

  1. The Sony’s Audio Rec Level
  2. The Mic Pro receiver’s RX gain

Tested several combinations. Sony Audio Rec Level 1 and 5 were extremely quiet when the receiver was at 0 dB. The current combination of Sony level 6 and Mic Pro RX +9 dB is better, but am still trying to determine whether this is the cleanest setup or whether another combination would produce less hiss and a healthier recording level.

For anyone using this exact combination:

  • What Sony Audio Rec Level do you use?
  • What RX gain do you use on the Insta360 Mic Pro?
  • Where do your normal speaking peaks land on the Sony meter?
  • Have you found that raising the Mic Pro receiver output and keeping the Sony input low produces less hiss?
  • Do Weak noise cancellation & Low Cut work well for indoor dialogue or do you prefer different settings?

Especially interested in settings people have tested with the Sony a6700 and Insta360 Mic Pro specifically, rather than general wireless-microphone recommendations. Thanks.

Question Insta360 Mic Pro with Sony A6700 - Volume Settings

Does anyone here use the Insta360 Mic Pro with the Sony a6700 for indoor talking head videos? What volume did you set your Sony internally? Insta360 recommends level 5 for a6700 but when I used it, the recorded volume was not good with the Mic Pro. I adjusted the db to about 9 and still not good.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what would work best in terms of the volume levels on the a6700 and the db setting on Mic Pro, using it with Cardiod mode weak noise cancellation?

Luna Ultra Insta360 Luna Ultra Firmware v1.0.283 (Official) is out

I just updated the Insta360 app (iOS), connected to my Luna Ultra through the app, and the newest firmware just popped up.

I was previously on the notorious beta that had a lot of issues (v1.0.214). Everyone had different problems, but for me I was seeing really bad color shifts in the shadows and graininess when zooming, focusing issues on the 3x lens, poor touchscreen remote connection when decoupled from the Luna, and reduced effectiveness for Deep Tracking. The i-Log recovery was clutch though, and I also really loved the much improved spacing for Smart Framing (when you pick a single composition point on the 3x3 grid for tracking subjects).

This newest firmware seems to fix all of the issues I experienced on the beta while keeping the things I loved about the beta, and feels much more polished and clean, but I'm curious what others have to say.

Side note: I've really enjoyed making 360° panos with the Ultra and think it's underrated.

Luna Ultra Firmware 1.0.283 DO NOT UPDATE. BROKEN. Video inside.

This flashing happens when camera is at 6x optical zoom with I-log on. It’s like the color correction keeps turning itself off and on. Even 5.9x fixes it.

It also cannot focus at all. Even when you tap to drag on a subject.

This doesn’t happen with standard color active just i-log
