Been following the story about that 160 acres near the Tetons getting sold to a billionaire's LLC and it got me thinking about how much of this is happening under the radar all over Idaho. Not just the Tetons area either. You see it in the Wood River Valley, up around McCall, even patches of agricultural land in the Magic Valley quietly changing hands to entities nobody local has ever heard of.

The endowment land thing is especially frustrating because that land is supposed to benefit Idaho schools and the public trust. Selling it off to a private LLC at what amounts to a bargain price just feels wrong regardless of what the appraisal said.

What gets me is how little attention these transactions get until they're already done. By the time it makes the news the deal is signed and there's nothing left to do but read about it.

Curious if anyone here has noticed this happening in their part of the state or has any real sense of how much Idaho land has shifted to outofstate or foreignowned LLCs in the last decade. County assessor records only tell you so much and tracing LLC ownership is a whole rabbit hole. Anyone actually dug into this locally?

Hey friends, Traveling from Philly next week to soak up some of the wonderful nature on your side of the country. I will be in staying in Hailey ID for a few days and Victor ID for a few days as well. Trying to decide whether we should go rafting on the Snake River while we are in Victor or rafting on the Upper Main Salmon in Stanley.

Looking at White Otter Outfitters in Stanley + Dave Hanson Outfitters in Jackson. We don't have much experience rafting, but we have gone a couple of times in CO. Just looking for a fun day floating down the river.

That's Doug Wilson, Pastor at Christchurch in Moscow, Idaho. Wilson spoke at the Pentagon as part of Pete Hegseth's monthly Christian worship service.

Wilson's views are as controversial as they come: He believes the United States should become a Christian theocracy, that married women should not have the right to vote and that gay sex should be illegal. He estimates that 10 to 20 people in the top levels of government are aligned with his radical ideology. He explains that he thinks trans people are “sad,” certain elements of his idea of “homosexual behavior” should be punished by execution and in certain cases of marital rape, both parties should be disciplined.

Traveling from Philly for the week and staying in Hailey 08/01-08/03. Planning on doing Sawtooth Lake Hike and maybe some kayaking on Redfish Lake. Will probably stop by Silver Creek Preserve as wellin hopes to spot some Wildlife (moose?)

I truly hope this makes it back to him. I really wish I had it on recording too because this guy sucks.

My husband and I are moving. We keep a very clean home and a very clean backyard. We've had contractors working in our basement so we needed to move our couches outside yesterday. We put a free sign on them because they're very nice, but our plans are to take them to the dump Tuesday (tomorrow). The dump here is only open on Saturdays and Tuesdays.

The mayor of Mackay, Idaho showed up at my house today. He banged on my door aggressively. I opened it and he immediately accused "what are you doing with those couches?" I said "we're getting rid of them, please take them if you want."

He began aggressively berating me, and yelled at me like I was a child because THEY'RE AN EYESORE AND IN THE WAY. They're 100% on our property. I told him that they've only been out there for 24 hours, but he insists that it's unacceptable, even though multiple houses have literal trash spewing into the streets. We have two very clean couches, pushed all the way up against our fence, that we're planning on getting rid of. There are literal hoarder houses here with decades and decades of garbage. This entire town is filled with trash. Our property is one of the cleanest properties within city limits.

He said that multiple citizens called him to complain. I truly think he's lying.

We called City Hall, and the woman said that our property technically goes to the middle of the street so that we can keep our furniture wherever we want. She also said "how does he know it's not outside furniture." She said that we were totally in the right to have our couches where they're at, and that he was completely in the wrong for showing up at our home.

I am a 33-year-old female. I was wearing short shorts and an oversized t-shirt. I'm covered in tattoos. The man's demeanor changed as soon as I opened the door and he saw that I was 1) a woman and 2) clearly not Mormon or conservative.

I'm a teacher so we used to have an "everyone is welcome here" sign out front, but we took it down once we put our house on the market. I really think he wanted to target me today. I have let City Hall know that he will be charged with trespassing if he chooses to come back to our home to berate me.

Edit to update for all the haters down voting me. The sheriff's office will be paying him a visit ❤️ because his behavior of trespassing and intimidaton is truly unacceptable

First off, MASSIVE thank you to all the firefighters. If any of you ever see this, my home was in the evacuation area and I can never say thank you enough for what you have done to protect it.

By some miracle, it actually rained last night and helped calm things down. They have made a lot of progress. They ended up starting back burns last night and putting down dozer lines to protect the houses. The fire did burn right up to the back of houses on the north side of Indian Creek, but the amazing fire teams managed to stop it before it took any structures. Today is a very dry day with a bit of wind, so that will be the biggest challenge today. Lots of aircraft on it and firefighters on the ground still.

We will be visiting family in Couer d'Alene in September and want to take a day trip to ride the Hiawatha Trail the last Monday before it closes for the season. My questions are:

We are almost 60, not great physical shape. Our understanding is that we should be ok, given the it's all downhill. Any precautions/helpful hints?

Will that time of year be smoky, generally speaking?

Should we make this a day trip, or should we plan on staying in Wallace overnight?

He beat her with a belt for four hours. Gave her a break when she deficated herself, then continued beating her. For stealing from a family member.

He let her suffer for five days before taking her to the hospital because he was scared he'd get in trouble.

She is only 11yo and in the hospital in critical condition.

He's being charged with injury to a child.

I think it should be an attempted murder charge.

Happy sunday! The best day of the week, always! We fed well over 100 meals today. We had volunteers who were formerly people who stayed at shelters and ate with us, the neighbors we feed were a huge help in setting up, and we even had a family of 5 that wanted to come help and assisted in passing out leftover pastries to kids at the skatepark! .

A really special thing about distro is how many people come together to make this possible. Some of us can give a little, and some of us can give a lot, and all of us deserve so much. With those principals in mind, we added joy to Boise today.

Anybody have any good spots to visit in the northern region? Historical is great, spooky is welcome as well. New here in Idaho, from Arizona. I've visited a lot of spots in Arizona and always hated the heat. Since this is like a dream spot for me I'd like to know of any good places to explore or visit and learn more about the state. What are some of your favorite spots for a weekend camp trip? I'm hoping to find some hidden gem spots that aren't are busy as the well known locations. Thanks in advance!

We got put in Col Springs with the Air Force, we are now retired and looking at Idaho. I always thought I loved a breeze but this sand pelting wind here has changed my mind. Hoping Boise isn’t the same!!

Hello! I am currently in Idaho near Pocatello and am shooting a short documentary about swarms of insects. I wanted to find the best places with high concentrations of the crickets to film. We’ve seen a few roads with them here and there but nothing major. Any advice is appreciated :)
