General Question IRS Tax Fraud
Beyond reporting a person to the IRS for tax fraud via their website, is there anything else you can do to help have them reviewed and audited?
I am not looking for advice on if you should or should not report someone. These are highly extenuating circumstances and I would not be taking these steps if not absolutely necessary. Thank you!

Tax Question letter compromise offer not available on IRS site
I would like to submit a offer compromise for my tax debt but I never see the option available. I do file joint with my spouse so idk if that would be why. Does anyone know if I can call in and request this service or if I can just download the form and submit it.
General Question 570 Showing Up Late
Sometimes the IRS posts the freeze later than people expect, even though the steps themselves are in the right order. The system attaches the updated information first, logs the movement, and only applies the hold once the review lane starts working on the file.
The strange part is how the system loads. The freeze doesn’t appear at the moment the IRS pauses the account. 570 shows up when the system finally posts the hold, which can be days or weeks after the comparison step has already started.
That’s why the transcript looks like it stalled and then suddenly jumped. The IRS already had the file in review; the transcript just didn’t display the freeze until the system pushed the update.
It settles into place once the system finishes posting everything.

Rant Blank Page Error
When checking the status of my amended tax return on my online irs account I am getting a blank page. I used to have the 1/3 bars so It was showing that the irs received my amended return. Now it’s completely blank. I called and was told it was adjusted 7/8 and I was approved for my full refund and to wait a few weeks however My transcripts show no updates. The balance on my account that was there is no longer there but there is a message that says adjustments are being made. I would be breathing a lot easier if I could just see the second bar that’s supposed to show that the amended return has been adjusted because the irs could be saying anything atp

Rant Continuing the saga— so many calls, zero info.
Posted earlier that I got through to the IRS (40 dials, 90 min on hold) and learned that a CP05 is now 180 days, as others here have also been told. I was also advised to review my return. A redditor suggested I check my wage and income transcript. I found a 1099-NEC is missing! Payor confirmed it was transmitted to IRS in Jan. So, now, I just want to confirm if the IRS does have it and if that is the problem. If so I’ll hassle the finance guy in my office to resubmit.
I tried calling two days ago, but got routed to the incorrect offices. One tried to transfer me, I was on hold about 30 min when the call dropped. The second call was a 3 hour hold but again wrong department— call the main number again but don’t mention the word “form”. That department has no access to taxpayer data.
Yesterday I decided I’ll try to get an appointment at my IRS office. Maybe I can sit down with someone and we can check all us in order. Naive and silly of me, I know, but I don’t do passive sit-and-wait very well. Plus at this time my taxpayer right to have clear communication and information about my taxes has been violated.
Here’s the good news. The number to call to get an appointment is a much more efficient way to get a human being. There are still long holds but someone comes on the phone, asks your info and then puts you on hold while they clearly research your situation.
And that’s where the good news ends. First time I call, I give him my info, he puts me on hold, and in the time it takes me to shower and dry my hair (spouse monitoring the call), I remain on hold till there a few beeps and the call is dropped.
Okay, try again. Get new human. All humans kind so far but this one was a little testy— tbh I’m trying to be kind but getting a little testy myself. I explain I want to verify that they don’t have a 1099 and is that the problem that is holding up my refund? She puts me on hold (at this time I expressed reluctance due to prior call). Comes back, “we don’t do appointments for that”. She didn’t reply to “What do you do appointments for?” Then she referred to the prior call when I was advised to wait the 180 days. I told her I had new info since then, and I was trying to verify. Surely someone in the IRS can look to see if this 1099 from this payor is in the system. Anyway I get put on hold after clarifying the question. And you know what happens…hold many minutes and the call is dropped.
For now, I give up and will try my congressman again. He’s a great guy but I’m sure his constituent services is swamped. Giving that two more days. I’ll move on to my senators if no luck there.
Not looking for advice here, just a rant. The Redditors who advise to just give it up may be correct.

Previous Years/ IRS Collections & Back Taxes 2022 CP 81 notice
In May 2026, I received a 2022 CO 81 notice for not filing taxes and ~$12k in credit. I confirmed with my tax atty the tax return was filed and taxes were paid ( I was hybrid 1099 and w-2) that year.
I promptly paid the ~$1k taxes (again) and sent in the return to the separate locations (Cincy and Philly respectively, IIRC). The check was cashed, but the portal is not reflecting receipt of my 2022 tax return.
Are these being sent out in error? Does it take three months to update the portal? What gives..? Not freaking out, but just absolutely annoyed.

Tax Question Will I be fined for slow mail service?
Yesterday -- July 21, 2026 -- I received a letter from the IRS. It said that I owed more money and it gave a due date for paying: July 20, 2026.
I check my mailbox daily, so this letter reached my house on July 21. (Correction) The IRS letter was dated June 29.
I didn't understand their corrections and I wanted to know whether I'd be fined for paying late. I called the phone number in the letter. The service hung up on me repeatedly with a recording about being busy. I finally got through for inquiries about payments. I was put on hold. After about half an hour, the battery in my phone died. So I got a different phone in my house, an old one with no speaker. I called again, was put on hold, and held that old phone against my ear for about an hour. No one ever answered, so I finally hung up. Meanwhile, I tried the IRS chat service. It said no one was available. I tried it repeatedly for about 2 hours and didn't get through.
I paid the amount in the letter via bank transfer yesterday. However, I still don't know whether I'll be fined for being late, and I still don't know what I did wrong. I would send a letter to ask, but that hasn't worked in the past. Calling has been the best way to get answers, but you have to get through.

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question Filed March 18th and still haven’t received my return.
As the title says I filed my taxes in the state of TX in march, and since then I’ve had 3 60 day notices, and absolutely nothing else. I’m just trying to find out if this is a waiting game this year or if something else is going on making the irs behind or not funded enough to pay us out.

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question Refund Question
Can anyone provide advice regarding next steps? The notice I received on 5/18 stated to allow for 60 days following receipt. Not sure what the best move is. I called the IRS prior to receiving the notice and they were not very helpful.

Tax Question No update on transcript
It’s been over 14 weeks and haven’t seen no update on transcript for my refund. Is it that it can be done in a day and refund sent that day or I should be seeing regular updates on my transcripts to show progress towards receiving my refund?

Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question Not sure what to do
This is all I get when I check for my return status online, it's the same thing I get told on the phone - that it's being processed - and when I try to speak to a representative I just get told to call back later or try another day and get hung up on. Its super frustrating! Any advise?

Previous Years/ IRS Collections & Back Taxes IRS Amended return letter came confirming approval 2 months ago but was never paid. Can’t get a hold of anyone at the IRS. Help?
I submitted an amended return for 2022 and am owed a large return (5 figures) from the IRS. I received a letter on May 25 confirming that the amended return was accepted and to expect payment in 2-3 weeks. It’s been 2 months and no payment - I’ve been trying to call the number on my letter as well as other numbers I’ve found online but I can never get through to anyone and then it hangs up.
Has anyone experienced this? Any tips on what I should do next?
