Just bought my (hopefully forever) home and national fuel wants me to take a meter reading. Pic attached. I am reading this as 8820. The website won’t take it. Am I wrong in my reading? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. TYIA.

I had two companies come out to look at my foundation (fieldstone). The one I settled on said nothing was terribly imminent but a couple spots warranted some work being done. Got quoted $20k for a retainer wall. I want to make sure it’s necessary before I go through with it. Any thoughts based on the pictures? Thanks.

Hello, I just bought a home. We are about two weeks in and the sparkly white deck railing now looks a bit mildewy. Does this happen with every outdoor paint or did they use the wrong kind of paint for this application? Can I clean it and clearcoat it or do I need to repaint the whole deck?

Long story--I thought I had bedbugs and the inspector said there's no evidence despite confirming my bites (he suspects I got bit while out of town but didn't bring any home with me)

That said, ive noticed these little droppings since a few weeks ago. Here they are on my windowsill, but ive also seen them on my sheets (right by the window) and in multiple other windowsills around the house (on the inside, not outside). More context--I have 2 cats. You can see some cat hairs in the photo for size reference.

It seems they are not related to bedbugs, but if so, what? My googling made me think bats/bat bugs (who supposedly behave very similarly to bedbugs) but the droppings I saw looked a bit different. And I havent seen any critters in my house except (harmless) spiders. I suspected mouse poop but they have a strange curl to them.

Any help is greatly appreciated 🙏🏼

My boyfriend is helping me move & he lifted my box spring and found this stain on the side of it. Does this look like dust or a streak of mold? We’ve already had to throw away our couch because of severe mold spotting. There is also a known mold problem in our bathroom and kitchen area behind the fridge, but my room is a bit of distance from both. Please comment and help me figure this out if you can, greatly appreciated to know if I should throw it away or not!

We got a new roof in April. They replaced box vents with ridge vent. So they went into my attic to ensure soffit vents were venting. Anyway they suggested we get more insulation. Anyway had insulation company come out. All beams are exposed and we only have about 6 inches they suggested we get up to code. They will air seal everything before adding more blown in insulation (we have fiberglass). Anyway my question comes in because i am seeing A LOT of nail pops in ceilings upstairs that were not there before. Some are in a row others are not they are also in walls. Also seeing lines in ceiling. No apparent water damage. However I am also seeing them all over even in basement ceiling. Is my house settling its 14 years old. My concern added concern is house moving but also the new roof. According to roofers it was already pre-cut (builders cut) which they used for ridge vent. Any advice? I plan on getting a 2nd opinion but also a building engineer to check foundation. I am beyond stressed. We live in Kentucky so weather is just crazy.

Have lived in my 2b2bath condo alone for four years without this issue. This year, I had a plumber replace the workings of the toilets.

There are two showers- one close to my bathroom, the other, further away, I just use for storage.

Recently there is an intermittent sulfur smell coming from the spare bathroom- less used, further away. Googling tells me something about this p-trap and suggests sending water down the shower drain. This does seem to help, but the problem keeps returning. Is there a permanent fix?
Called a plumber, did not look at shower and wants to replace the whole toilet. House was built in 70s.

One thing I always found interesting about homeownership is that it's one of the few major purchases that reveals its value slowly.

Most buyers spend a lot of time thinking about the numbers, and yes getting the financial side right is incredibly important.

But once you move in, life isn't really about the numbers anymore. It's about whether the home fits your everyday life. The neighborhood. the routines you build. The little things that make you happy to come home at the end of the day.

Over the years, I've come to appreciate that buying a home is both a financial decision and a lifestyle decision. Some of the things people end up loving most about their homes are things they couldn't have fully appreciated on closing day.

Looking back, what's something about your home that turned out to matter far more to you than you ever expected when you bought it??

First guy came out and said it was minor, that I could probably wait a season before doing anything, and then a second guy showed up two days later and said the same roof needed full replacement immediately or I'd have leaks within a month. Same roof, same storm, completely different conclusions, and I'm not a roofing person so I have no way to tell who's right.

I called Bacon Roofing after a neighbor mentioned them, mostly to get a third opinion before deciding anything, and they walked through what they were actually looking at instead of just handing me a number. Still not thrilled I needed three companies to get a straight answer.

Facing this flood issue every year in July and August due to poor sevrage system of Lahore our house kept flooding due to outside water kept getting in.

Need ideas how to stop outside water

The viewing angle is finally right, the snacks have a designated table, and one seat has somehow become the lucky seat after two wins.

At this point my living room is less of a living room and more of a very small, badly managed fan zone. The setup is not fancy, but changing anything before the Final feels like tempting fate.

My current downdraft still lets a lot of smoke escape even on high, it pulls more heat away from the pans than smoke out of the kitchen. I've been looking at replacements for about a week, but honestly they kind of look the same. Stainless steel, LED lights, then a different CFM numbers. Usually the higher the CFM, the higher the price, I can't really tell if that means it'll capture smoke better or if I'm paying for a big fan. While comparing a few options, I saw some hoods that take a different approach. They talk about faster airflow near the intake and catching smoke before it spreads. With panels around the intake to keep smoke from escaping out the sides. That sounds useful, but now I'm not sure how to compare any of this in a meaningful way. What actually matters most for smoke capture?

Any recommendations on a sectional (mostly considering modular but open to all) that has kid proof fabric but it’s also super comfortable?

My parents put the UPS here, so that part has to stay. It's also beneath an outdoor staircase. I added a couple of plants to make it look a little nicer, and I'm planning to get rid of the leftover tiles.

I'm not really sure what else to do with the space. It feels kind of unfinished, and I'd like it to look cleaner without making it a lot of work to maintain.

I'm also a little worried about the UPS. I'm not sure if it's okay to have plants around it, and I don't want to do anything that could cause moisture or other issues.

One thing I'm wondering: will having a few plants outside my basement window make my room more humid? I don't want to create a moisture or mold problem.

Any ideas for making this area look better while keeping it practical? If you were working with this space, what would you change?

We had our condo walls painted white 5 years ago but we started noticing that the edges of the walls have a yellow tint showing. Tried to wipe it with a damp paper towel but doesn’t seem to do much. Anyone know what this could be and how to fix it?

So I’m upgrading my panel and the electrical company said my gas line needs to be moved where my fence is currently at? Any ideas on how to take this down best to preserve it? Or is this a break it down type of thing

I (30M) have lived in this apartment for years. There’s a lot I don’t like about it but recently have been motivated to try and make more like a “home”. I used to have an AC in this window and threw it out. The windowsill accumulates this white dust even after vacuuming.

How can I fix this? Is this something I can tackle on my own?
