Tech Support What did I break?

Post image
5 Upvotes

My HP Omen has been reduced to doing a couple tasks only. It has the software/security/magic spells to log in to a county system when I help out my local tax assessor in helping people file property tax appeals. . It has really frustrating monitor cable issues and I coax it on and leave it be.

Because of this, I have opened it up many times to prod at cables. However, today I did collateral damage. The good news is it is on, the backlight is working on the monitor, and it all seems fine….but…. I broke something. See the attached image. It is near the hinge in the center of an Omen 17-CB1xxx.

What is it, is it missing critical and if I get out my magnifier and try and solder the part back on will the heat cook anything important?

I am moderately decent at soldering although this is VERY fine work.

Review 2 years with my Omen (long term I guess)

Well it's been 2 years since I got this device and this is my experience

It's a 6800H 3070Ti (150W) omen

It has given me a fair share of - well - more issues than what it actually served be

Performance is peak - - had zero issues with it - whatever I throw at it - it eats it up and throws back the required result - I'd tell it's still relevant upto today's standards with frame gen mods in games - and even raw rasterization and Machine learning for that matter

Windows felt like the only bottleneck when it came to performance

Fans are loud yes - but I don't really mind it as long as it pumps that heat out - thermal paste replaced every 6-8 months - temps usually stay around 78-82c for the GPU running at 130W - can go as low as 74c if the weather/the room was cool

Never had any performance issues in games where the laptop throttled causing frame drops (With the exception of Until Dawn where the laptop shut down twice coz of the heat - it was a pretty hot day as well)

Really good display - I love how it's almost like an OLED display when autobrightness is enabled and the 165hz is just muah

Speakers are really horrible tbh - sure they are loud and uninstalling the proprietary drivers and installing standing Realtek drivers helped - but the speakers have no bass - mushy mids and very minimal highs - Phone speakers sound better in my opinion

Battery was really good at the start - I'd get 8 hours on any given day from 100-0 - it has degraded to 4-6 hours now considering the fact that it always stays plugged in - but hey - as long as it can support power cuts - I'm fine with it

Storage is fine - it uses a Micron SSD - which gets really hot upon use and starts throttling and the only thermal solution HP gave was a thermal pad attached to the chassis - cheap cost cutting by HP

Build quality - WORST the most fragile piece of electronic I've ever used in my life - the display flexes to just opening or closing the lid and the display wobbles even to the slightest breeze - heck my cheaper Asus notebook did not have such bad build quality

The keyboard flexes with the slightest of pressure applied on it

The mute button's light stopped working all of a sudden

One of the speakers started cracking at certain frequencies (mitigated to a certain level by uninstallinh HP drivers)

Cost cutting in the most diabolical places seen - the WiFi card is attached right below one of the heatpipes without any shielding provided to the WiFi/Bluetooth adaptor (waiting for the day it fails coz of the heat)

The Ram modules have no heatsink or even shielding provided - I've seen legions and ROGs come with a metal covering on the RAM modules

SSD has literally no cooling solution provided - even my old Asus had some kind of aluminium sheet attached on the SSD which kind of acts as a passive heatsink

**Now yea - speaking of the problems**

It's all with the build quality and the general quality of the parts and the whole laptop itself

Within 6 months of purchase I had an issue where connecting anything to the USB - C port would just crash the laptop and upon inspection - it was a rusted USB port?

I don't even live in an area where there's excessive moisture - it's always dry here and I don't get water or food around the laptop - the whole motherboard had to be changed for that which was done under warranty

8th month since purchase - the right hinge started clicking upon use - and while I tried to change it under warranty - HP instead replaced the keyboard stating that the rivets on the top part of the laptop were broken - - and in the process of fixing that - they broke the display and they ended up replacing that as well - but refused to fix the bezels they broke in the process and yea the lower bezel now collects dust which I have to clean often

They never replaced the hinges till the end - and yea it still clicks upon usage and my warranty ended - did not purchase extended warranty or ADP coz it costs almost 1/4th the price of the laptop (waiting for it to snap one day)

Now one of the display supporting brackets on the side of the laptop disintegrated on its own and half of it fell off

So yea it's technically a 1-1.5 year old laptop with its motherboard, keyboard, display being changed - but we call it 2 years

Despite the shitty build quality - id give it to HP for designing a lovely cooling system that does not fail even when the weather is harsh - the LOQs or Legions I've seen immediately hit 87c upon load and start throttling during load coz of the heat here

Hope the laptop lasts for another 4-5 years before something inevitably breaks

Tech Support Laptop becomes unresponsive when I plug it in

My laptop has been perfectly behaved since I bought it in October 2023. I had not touched or changed anything when this started to happen.

This is the laptop :

HP OMEN Gaming Laptop 16-n0001sa | AMD Ryzen 7-6800H Processor | 16GB RAM | 1TB SSD | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU

It will start up perfectly fine when unplugged, but as soon as I plug it in, the display will go black and all keys and peripherals will be unresponsive.

What I've ready tried

✅ Update bios and firmware

✅ Starting with no peripherals

✅ Reset CMOS

✅ Update graphics drivers

✅ Uninstalled battery drivers and restarted

✅ Physically disconnected the hall sensor

✅ Made all power settings to never sleep/hibernate etc

✅ Opened laptop to check for any disconnects

✅ Ran every diagnostic tool that HP offers

✅ Tried using a different outlet for the charger

✅ Turned off incompatibly mode

✅ Tried HDMI display, works when laptop display works, doesn't when it doesn't

Tech Support CMOS 502 error driving me crazy.

Hi, I have HP OMEN 16-b0002TX. Using it for 4 years.

Issue history: About the month ago i noticed a slow boot-up. If i press power button the LCD lights up black but stays black for many seconds then Omen logo would show up and laptop would start normally. Slowly the delay between black screen and omen logo would go to about 2-4 minutes. I also updated latest bios (thinking corrupted bios) and checked battery with HP utility and battery showed as normal. However cycles were 1050/1000.

Issue happened: I gamed like usual a week ago and it worked great. Then i shutdown the system normally. After that i restarted after few hours and the delay actually never passed and omen logo never showed up. Even after waiting for 10 minutes.

Troubleshooting: I tried pretty much everything available on internet. Pressed and held power button, reinstalled bios (before it died). pressed windows + B, windows + V. I even opened and removed nvme, rams, to see the faulty hardware. Since then, i am getting CMOS error 502.

Then i removed the battery and tested using the power only. Guess what, same error shows even when i turn it on without battery. I am so confused, if battery is faulty then it should have worked fine without the battery. Which it does not.

After the CMOS error when i press enter. It simply goes back to sleep and the cycle repeats.

I have been researching a lot and can not find exact answer as to what is wrong. Batteries are out of stock on HP parts website too. I can get from abroad but getting same error without battery confusing the hell out of me. It is my main system and my work in on pause since a week because of this.

Help me guys.

Tech Support Laptop freezes on every restart, stuck on boot screen

Guys, I have a strange problem with my laptop.

Every time I try to restart it, it completely freezes and won’t do anything unless I force a shutdown myself.

Sometimes the screen stays completely dark, or it just freezes on the boot screen with the round loading circle stuck in place.

Any idea what I can do about it?

Everything works just fine, this the only Problem he has.

My Specs: 2025 Omen Max 16, Intel Ultra 275HX, FHD, 5080 Rtx, 32GB Ram

Question Omen 45 l max Amd 9900x3d

Hi everyone, I read the post by user @Mountain-Accurate regarding this PC that caught fire. I have the same model but not the GT23-0000t as the user, but I have the GT23-0000nl model purchased on the HP Italia website, with AMD 9900x3d 64GB of RAM (2 x 32GB) RTX 5090 and 1TB SSD with a 1200W ATX 3.1 80 Plus Gold power supply. I'm worried about what happened. I'll start by saying that I'm very sorry for the user in question, and I'd like to know more. Is it the cable's fault, or the power supply or the GPU? So far I haven't had any problems with crashes or sudden shutdowns with fans at maximum. I played Cyberpunk in 4K with all the graphics at maximum for about 1-2 hours. Maybe it's because I don't play every day but a few times a week? What do you recommend I do? Should I sell it before any problems arise? I'm undecided and scared right now, partly because of the difficulty in communicating with online technical support, and also because I paid €3,800 for it here in Italy. Thanks to anyone who responds, and best of luck.

Solved DeltaT update out now! (v2.2.0)

Thumbnail
gallery
17 Upvotes

First off, thank you all so much for the love. DeltaT just crossed 700+ downloads and honestly that's wild to me. I built this to solve my own thermal-diagnosis headache, and seeing people actually use it means a lot.

A bunch of you left feedback and reported bugs, which I genuinely appreciate. That's exactly what makes this thing better. Here's what I fixed and added in this update:

New:

  • Fixed indoor-temperature scoring. Got a climate-controlled room? Set your actual indoor temp and DeltaT scores against that instead of the outside weather. It keeps a separate baseline, so switching modes never mixes things up.
  • Tunable weather refresh. Choose how often the outside temp updates: 1, 2, or 3 hours, instead of a fixed 3. Nice if you're somewhere it swings hour to hour.
  • Clickable warning notifications. Tap a warning toast and it opens straight to the Remarks feed, where the full explanation and suggested fix live.
  • A "Support DeltaT" tip jar. Completely optional, crypto only. DeltaT stays free, no account, nothing collected.
  • A one-time what's-new screen after each update, so a new version never quietly changes behaviour on you.

Fixed:

  • Wrong GPU on hybrid AMD laptops. On machines with a Ryzen chip plus a separate gaming GPU (common on ASUS ROG/TUF), DeltaT could latch onto the integrated Radeon and read the wrong chip, or no sensor at all. It was worst when the gaming GPU had gone to sleep to save battery. Now DeltaT asks Windows which cards physically exist, so it never mixes them up.
  • GPU fingerprint. If your GPU is idle or switched off, DeltaT now tells you to wake it right away, instead of running the full load for 90 seconds and then failing with a confusing error.
  • OmenMon coexistence. On HP OMEN/Victus laptops, DeltaT and OmenMon reading fan RPM could knock each other out. Now DeltaT detects OmenMon and steps aside, reading fan speeds from its feed instead.
  • Clearer indoor-mode labels in the Device view.

Already have DeltaT? Head to Settings and hit Check for updates, or just let it update itself on next startup. Your history and settings stay put.

New here? DeltaT is a free Windows app that learns your PC's own thermal fingerprint and tells you what's actually driving your temperatures: degraded paste, dust and airflow, a failing fan, a bad mount, or just a hot room, instead of blaming one thing. It sits quietly in your tray.

Thank you for using DeltaT 🙏

Have done all the tests, even the big ones and everything comes back with green lights as if there’s nothing wrong. I am, by no means, any kind of hacker in any way. If there’s anybody out there that could help me through this I would appreciate it sooo much🙏

Discussion Update: HP still has my OMEN MAX 16 after nearly 2 months, offered a downgraded refurbished replacement or a $1,779 refund on a $3,352 laptop

I wanted to post an update on my ongoing HP OMEN MAX 16 warranty situation because this has gone from frustrating to completely unacceptable.

My laptop is an OMEN MAX Gaming Laptop 16t-ah000, 16”, SKU A4NQ6AV_1.

Original specs:

  • Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, 24 GB
  • 64 GB DDR5-5600 MHz RAM
  • 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD
  • 16” WQXGA display, 2560 × 1600, 60–240 Hz, 500 nits, 100% sRGB
  • Windows 11 Pro HIE
  • Wi-Fi 6E / Bluetooth 5.3
  • 83 Wh battery

I bought this laptop new for a total of $3,352.36.

A little over two months ago, the laptop randomly died while I was working. There were no lights, no charging indicator, no fan activity, and no sign of power at all.

HP received the laptop for warranty repair on May 27, 2026.

Since then, HP confirmed that the failed/backordered part is the mainboard, part number P35474-601. They told me the part was unavailable, on back order, and that they did not have a clear procurement timeline. They originally asked me to wait until July 10 for an update, but that date came and went without a real resolution.

After pushing them, HP offered me a replacement — but the offer was a refurbished unit, not new. It also had downgraded specs compared to my original laptop.

The proposed replacement had:

  • Windows 11 Home instead of Windows 11 Pro
  • WUXGA 165 Hz 400-nit display instead of my WQXGA 2560 × 1600, 60–240 Hz, 500-nit display
  • Refurbished condition instead of new
  • Only the remaining warranty carried forward

I rejected that offer because I purchased a new premium laptop, not a refurbished downgraded replacement.

HP then told me they do not currently have any units in stock that match the specifications of my original computer. Their alternative was a “buyback” / prorated refund of $1,779.16.

Again, my original purchase total was $3,352.36.

So after HP has had my laptop for nearly two months, failed to repair it, failed to provide a matching new replacement, and confirmed that the required mainboard was backordered, their proposed refund is $1,573.20 less than what I paid.

I rejected that too.

At this point, I have told HP that I do not accept the refurbished replacement, I do not accept the reduced refund, and I am not waiving any rights. My position is simple:

HP needs to either:

  1. Return my original laptop fully repaired and tested immediately;
  2. Provide a new equal-or-better replacement; or
  3. Provide a full refund of the original purchase amount.

I am also in California, where warranty repair timelines matter, and I have made clear to HP that I never agreed in writing to an indefinite delay.

This whole experience has completely changed how I view HP. Someone from my workplace was considering using or purchasing an HP product, and I strongly discouraged them based on this experience. I cannot recommend this product or support process in good faith while my own high-end OMEN MAX 16 has been sitting unresolved for almost two months.

I am posting this to see if other OMEN MAX 16 owners are experiencing similar failures, especially complete no-power failures or mainboard issues.

If you have had a similar issue, please comment with:

  • Your OMEN model
  • Your specs
  • Purchase date
  • Failure symptoms
  • Whether the laptop had no lights / no power
  • What part HP said failed
  • How long HP kept the laptop
  • Whether you received a repair, replacement, refund, or buyback offer
  • Whether HP offered you refurbished hardware instead of a new replacement

Please do not post your serial number, full case number, address, phone number, or personal information.

I’m trying to figure out whether this is an isolated issue or part of a larger pattern with this model. If enough people are dealing with the same thing, we should document it clearly and file truthful complaints with the BBB, state consumer protection agencies, and any other appropriate channels.

To be clear, I am not encouraging harassment or spam. I am asking other owners to share documented experiences so there is a public record of what is happening.

TL;DR: HP has had my $3,352 OMEN MAX 16 since May 27 after it completely died with no power. They confirmed the mainboard is backordered, missed their July 10 update date, offered me a downgraded refurbished replacement, then offered only $1,779.16 as a prorated refund. I rejected both. I’m asking HP for my repaired laptop immediately, a new equal-or-better replacement, or a full refund.

Tech Support Omen 16L desktop audio issue with USB audio interface

Hi everyone,
I’m having a strange issue with my new HP OMEN 16L.
PC Specs:
Intel Core i5-14400F
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB
16GB DDR5 RAM
1TB SSD
Windows 11
Whenever the system experiences increased load—even something as simple as opening a web browser or launching an application—I hear audio noise/interference, and my USB mouse occasionally freezes or becomes unresponsive for a short time.

I’ve already:
Updated Windows completely.
Installed the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.
Installed the latest NVIDIA drivers.
Tried different USB ports.
The PC is brand new.
Has anyone experienced something similar?

Could this be:
A faulty motherboard?
A defective USB controller?
A power delivery issue?
Or something else?
Any suggestions or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When is the right time when I could buy 3 year adp for my hp omen ? It's quite expensive now, in future will they sell in any sale or something? Should waiting would worth it or they always sell it for 8k?
