OK... I’d like to swap my mobile phone. I’d also like to break free from the tech giants, or at least give it a go. Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as I thought. Figuratively speaking, I’m currently standing in front of the GrapheneOS shop window, looking at the display. I’ve already been to the /e/OS shop window. But the lights weren’t on there and nobody answered my questions.
Looking at a pixel 10 Pro 256 right now.
As this is more of a social media app with its potential for conversation, I’m taking the liberty of asking questions that may well have been answered before. I’m not looking for answers from 2023; I want information on today’s technology and app versions.
In my research into GrapheneOS, I keep coming across reports that the phone’s NFC functions might not work. This applies to banking apps, for a start, and perhaps to other NFC-enabled apps as well. Is this still the case, or does it depend on factors such as hardware and the banking app?
As I’m experimenting with smart home devices via Home Assistant, I’m also interested in this area. I read somewhere that push notifications might not go through, as they require a Google service to do so. Is this the case, and are there any software or hardware workarounds using apps such as WireGuard?
