4xe fuel gauge inaccuracy?
Currently renting a 4xe Grand Cherokee, love the vehicle but I’m not ignorant to some of the quality issues it has, yet I’m unable to find my specific issue with a cursory google search.
The long and short of it is that I was driving today and the fuel warning came on, approximately 10 miles down the road I got a warning about diminished performance and then the car died. I initially assumed there was a fault in the hybrid drive system as the range was still 15 miles (my destination was next to a fuel station) and the light had just come on so recently. But upon coasting to a stop the display read “low” instead. Someone brought me 2 gallons of fuel, which didn’t seem to even register on the gauge (indicating either a fault, or that 2 gallons in the threshold for low fuel) and I went to top off.
Yes, I shouldn’t have let it get that low, but also having driven for as long as I have, I know there’s redundancy built in, if it had said 0 and run out, I’d have been annoyed, but at least I couldn’t blame the car, warning me not but 10 miles before running out seems to be a fault.
