From iPhone to Pixel, the best choice of my life.

Upvotes

Hi guys, I want to share my experience with the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL with you. I've been an iPhone user since I was little, and last year I decided to switch to Android by buying a Galaxy S25 Ultra, which I returned after a month. Then, after a year, I wanted to give Android another chance, and I got Google's phone. I can tell you, I think I've made the best purchase I've ever made. I'm very happy with the Stock Android operating system, it has so many features compared to the iPhone, the build quality is truly excellent, and it's spectacular aesthetically, and most importantly, it doesn't overheat completely.

Sure, I found editing apps like Edits or TikTok a little slower in general when editing videos, but honestly, that's not what will force me to go back to the iPhone. It has so many features that I'm more than happy with waiting a few minutes longer to render a video. The cameras are excellent. Compared to the S25 Ultra, the front camera feels like an iPhone, and the back one has incredible quality, which I didn't like on the S25 Ultra.

The apps are getting a lot better. Now that Android is working with Meta, I find Instagram uploads to be of good quality, but I've always used the camera app on my iPhone, too, so I don't really care. Anyway, guys, I hope this little experience has helped you make a decision in case you're thinking about switching phones.

Video and 911 call

Upvotes

So I was involved in a hit and run crash yesterday. Long story short, but I get out and start recording the scene and he takes off. So I go to the phone and call 911. When I did this, it not only ended the recording but didn't save any of the video. What the hell. Luckly I got a photo of his car and saw what he looks like and a live in a somewhat small town and through facebook found him a couple hours latter. But this definatly needs to change, maybe even have it as a feature where the camera turns on if you call 911. This is on my Pixel 10 PRO

Does anyone else miss:

Upvotes

When we could type a business' name into our phone app and it would automatically find the number. Like "Dominoes" or whatever else, it would just have the number pulled straight from (presumably) Google maps?

Man I miss that feature. There were so many cool features for pixels that just disappeared and I don't think there's really anything my 10 pro can do that any other phone can't do. Nothing I use anyways. It's just.. a phone. Nothing innovative about the software.

But my intent isn't to trash talk pixel, I've been with them since the 2. I just randomly remembered that feature and how much I wish it was still around. Fingerprint reader on the back is another one I miss. And how easy it used to be to use split screen. And squeeze for the assistant was cool as well.

Pixel 9a Navigation gestures completely unresponsive, but 3-button nav works?

Upvotes

Hey Reddit,

Facing a weird software/hardware paradox on my Pixel 9a. My navigation gestures are completely dead (swiping up from the bottom or sides does nothing). If I turn on 3-point navigation, the buttons work intermittently.

Here is the catch: The phone dropped 2 days ago and the tempered glass screen protector cracked. However, I just ran the official Google Touch Diagnostics tool, and it says everything is 100% fine. I can draw lines over the entire bottom edge without any dropouts.

I've already updated the OS, cleared the launcher cache, and toggled gesture sensitivity.

Is it possible for a cracked screen protector to selectively block only swipe physics while still allowing single taps to pass diagnostics? Or is this a known Pixel UI bug? Thanks!

What has a better microphone / audio recording processing between various Pixel and Galaxy models?

Upvotes

I just bought a refurbished Pixel 8, and when I was recording a video of me playing a song with acoustic guitar, the audio started clipping even thought it wasn't very loud. I previously had an S20 (was having battery issues, charging issues, and the casing was falling apart) and thought I would switch to Pixel for the better camera. But this type of issue never happened.

I'm just curious -- what would you all recommend for recording video/audio with a phone, without spending more than 200-300 dollars?

I would like the date to appear on the home screen at the top, next to the clock, and not just when you pull down Control Center. It's very annoying in many situations. What do you think?

Unfortunately, I can't attach a screenshot to the post.

If you don't believe me, just look up and see how uncomfortable that place is without date info.

Also, when you have apps open, you have to pull down the Control Center.

Pixel 9a light sensor is trash, and I'm tired of people endlessly insisting it's just the cached adaptive brightness settings. Stop the gaslighting. Adaptive brightness worked fine on my Pixel 6, it's only a problem now on my 9a.

I didn't transfer my data from my old phone, so there shouldn't have been old settings, but I still wiped the adaptive brightness memory and started over anyway, and it still sucks. The problem isn't the learned behavior, it's the inability for the light sensor to detect anything but DIRECT light. You can easily test this by simply tilting the phone towards or away from any light source while near it.

You can be in a decently lit room and it will think it's a dark room and drop the brightness if the light isn't shining directly on the sensor. So when you turn it up in a room that ISN'T dark but it THINKS it's dark, it will then try to match that brightness in an ACTUALLY dark room. Every time you turn the brightness down to minimum in a dark room, you're training it so that it will get too dark in an environment where light isn't shining directly into the sensor.

No amount of training the adaptive brightness can fix this, because it can't correctly detect the ambient lighting.

Also the GPS is shit. It thinks I'm an entire street over frequently times. The amount of times I hear that little jingle of maps correcting my route is ridiculous. I've had Android phones for 15 years now and this is the worst one I've had since the very first one.

I really liked my Pixel 6, but getting a Pixel 9a was such a mistake. I wish I could go back to my LG V30. It had superior hardware in every way except the CPU. I miss that phone. I've read the GPS is still shit even on the full fledged 9, and the 10, too.

Not to mention the modern changes to Maps' UI/UX, which are obnoxiously unintuitive at best. Even learning all the quirky nonsensical behavior and how to manage it, I still constantly hate the experience now compared to before. There also used to be an option to not give navigation directions until you leave your neighborhood, I miss that. Now I have to listen to it repeatedly jingle and give me conflicting, wrong directions over and over again until I get onto the main street, or fiddle with my navigation while driving, which I'd rather not be doing.

Please help decide how to protect my new Pixel 10 from its premature demise

Hi everyone. Against my better judgement I have decided to purchase the Pixel 10 as my Pixel 8 is having a lot of problems (issues with messages, Bluetooth connectivity, and storage).

I am extremely clumsy when it comes to my phone, and it plummets to the ground multiple times a day (either due to dropping it or it falling from my pocket). I have had an OtterBox Defender on my last three Pixels and have not broken a single one. However, when I went to order the OtterBox this time, I noticed the major design change. I decided to buy about 8 different cases (including some no-name ones from Amazon) and I have narrowed it down to these three:

-The OtterBox Defender (still a contender, even with the design change, but I'm not feeling too confident about it)

-The Poetic Guardian (feels pretty similar to the newly designed OtterBox, but cheaper and purple)

-The Spigen Tough Armor (I like the cushion inside the case, but it's so slippery that I've already dropped it three times)

Which of the three would you recommend? I'm also open to something else if you have a better suggestion! I'm looking for something without a built-in screen protector, as I'll be adding a tempered glass one.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Google pixel won’t transfer my stuff

I am switching from an iPhone 11 to a google pixel 8 pro and for some reason the transfer by wire will not transfer my contacts, my messages, or my passwords. There’s more than enough storage for it, and it has every permission it could possibly ask for. And I’m not paying for any cloud BS.

Pixel Studio app replacement

Is anybody using an app that does what the Pixel Studio app used to do? As silly as it sounds I used to make stickers from my friends faces and paste them on other bodies as a joke. We have this long running group chat and we used to do it all the time. Since pixel studio was discontinued and Gemini is not good for that kind of stuff, I'm in need of a replacement app.

Google Pixel 10a Price Hike: The Signs Were Already There

The Google Pixel 10a price hike didn't come as a surprise if you were closely tracking the market.

Google has already increased the official price from ₹49,999 to ₹55,999. At the same time, retailers like Croma are still showing both ₹49,999 and ₹55,999 listings.

This usually means retailers are clearing old inventory at the previous price while new stock is arriving at the revised MRP. Once the old stock is sold out, the lower-priced listings are expected to disappear.

My view: If you still find a Pixel 10a at ₹49,999 or below, it is likely part of the remaining old stock. After that inventory is exhausted, buyers should expect the phone to be available primarily at the new ₹55,999 price.

This isn't financial advice—just an observation based on current pricing trends across the Google Store and major retailers.

Depot trying to overcharge £500 after agent Mj promised Pixel 10 Pro Fold upgrade under RMA80221608

There was nothing wrong with my phone until one day it stuck on the G logo bootloop. As advised on google support I took it to their authorized repairers in London 'Ismash' who said it was probably due to an update and that it was not reparable and that I needed to contact Pixel for a replacement. They noted there was no physical damage to the phone. Google adviser MJ agreed and said that Pixel would not repair the phone but replace it with a new model for this reason.

There was no option for the bootloop issue but after much discussion I was told by MJ he would ensure that I would get a replacement but I had to pay for a cracked screen repair first. I didn't know what else to do so although my screen was not cracked I paid the £142.80 fee.

Once I returned the phone, the process was intercepted I received an email falsely claiming a cracked inner screen and a demand for a further £552.27

9p xl sim issue

So yesterday my 9 pro xl just decided to stop reading the sim/ has issues reading it.

I'm guessing it started in the morning cause when I was going to lunch I noticed the battery was at 30% and I hadn't been on my phone that much. Then when I started trying to use it my service was going in and out of 5g and no service so that's when I checked the battery use and found that the service was using all of it so I turned off data and even then it felt like the battery was going down really fast even with extreme battery saver on it died around 1pm and was on since 5am.

So when I got to my car and started charging it, it was barley holding a charge while just using android auto for music and also getting really hot.

When I took it to the tmobile store they tried putting a new sim card in, and we also waited for it to update cause there was one available, but it was still not working.

So I'm guessing it overheated and broke something but it sounds stupid for a year and a half old phone.

Pixel 7 Pro Dead Overnight

About 2 months ago, I bought a used Pixel 7 Pro with a broken screen, replaced it and gifted it to my mom. The phone was working perfectly fine, with no internal or external issues whatsoever. Usually, she puts music to sleep at night on her phone. Today, she woke up before her alarm clock, and the phone was still playing the music. She went back to sleep, and when she woke up without the alarm, she noticed the phone is completely dead. No vibrations, logos, charging, nothing. She gave it to me, I checked everything I could, screen, battery, charging port, but nothing was out of place. Note that I don't have an ampermeter, so i can't see it the phones taking charge. #help ?

*Edit: I used my vivo X300 Pro to reverse wirelessly charge the Pixel, it recognized there was a phone charging trough it, tho the pixel still didn't display anything.

My wife's Pixel 8 got the green line after 3 years, so she's moving to the 10a

Her screen just started showing that green line out of nowhere. Same thing happened to mine about 6 months ago so I already jumped to the 10. Been really happy with it.

Can't justify dropping flagship money again right now so she ordered the 10a. Fingers crossed it holds up better than the 8 did.

Anyone else make the jump from 8 to 10a?

Звук опаздывает за нажатием клавиш Google Pixel

Столкнулся с такой проблемой.

При наборе текста на Google pixel звук опаздывает и не всегда срабатывает, только если печатаю медленно.

Помогает только перезагрузка и то ненадолго.

How are your cases holding up?

My official case for P9 Pro XL, worn since launch, has really worn away in the corner and a bit broken off near the charging port.

For £20, I have definitely had cases in the past hold up better. Using soft plastic/rubber was a mistake.

How are yours doing and are you happy with the quality?

People who bought pixel 9 pro should be reimbursed fully.

Calling this piece of wasted silicon a phone is like calling calculator a PC. There is literally not a single good thing about this trash maybe except for design.

  1. Battery has 15 minutes of screen on time out of the box

  2. Processing power on the pixel 7 level

  3. Photos much worse than pixel 7

  4. Tones of unwanted features made by developers with either enormous egos or donning Krueger effect in full force, because these feature go directly against what the user wants, without the ability to turn them off 'we know better than the user'

  5. Network in this thing is a crime against humanity. WiFi turns off whenever it feels like. Even if you turn off the aggressive battery saving features (that give you the precious extra 5 seconds a day) it does whatever it wants. I connect to the WiFi, it's on in the menu, connected to network with internet, but the phone shows it's using mobile and that's what's actually happens when I do network tests. Restarting sometimes works sometimes not. When I get out of the mobile network signal for a second, after I get back in the rams I see the signal when to full, bit there's the exclamation mark and nothing works until I restart the device.

This is fuc*ing 2026. I don't take any stupid excuses. There is no excuse for 'state of the art' flagship device from one of the largest software/hardware producers on this planet to be this incompetent and incomplete. Calling and texting is the bare minimum of what I expect from the phone and this one does not deliver remotely even on that.

But yeah, at least I can add someone who's not there to a picture or turn a recording into atrocious ai song. Is there a phone company that doesn't have the ai brain damage at this point or do I have to start training pigeons to have any semblance of reliable communication without ai trash?

Acquisto di pixel 10 pro

Ciao a tutti, sono un utente Apple da tantissimi anni che vorrebbe provare qualcosa di nuovo.

In passato ho provato a passare a Oneplus (ma l’ho restituito perché era troppo grande) e Samsung (odiavo l’interfaccia).
