Hi everyone,

My name is Yann. I’m a French traveler, and a few weeks ago I crossed Ghana on foot as part of a human-powered journey across West Africa.

I walked from Elubo until Takoradi, Cape Coast, Accra and through the Volta Region until Aflao. 545km in total.

What made Ghana special for me was not only the landscapes or the places I passed through, but the people. And sometimes the difficult moments too.

Walking through a country is a very different way to experience it. You are slow, visible, tired, and dependent on people more than you expect. Ghana taught me a lot about hospitality, curiosity, and how quickly strangers can become part of the journey.

I entered Ghana with almost no audience, but the videos I shared along the road received a lot of support from Ghanaians and the diaspora. For that, I’m really grateful.

As Ghanaians, what do you think foreigners, myself included, often misunderstand about Ghana?

And what part of Ghana do you wish more people showed, beyond the usual tourist content?

Why is so much malfunctioning and bad traffic lights in Ghana? Especially around the airport area? Is Ghana slowly degrading and the people refuse to see it or what?

Hi everyone!

I am travelling from Moscow to Accra on July 29. I am receiving my yellow fever vaccination on July 23, so fewer than 10 days will have passed between the vaccination and my arrival in Ghana.

I understand that officially the international vaccination certificate becomes valid 10 days after the first vaccination. However, several of my colleagues have travelled to Ghana only a few days after being vaccinated and did not experience any problems.

Has anyone entered Ghana recently in a similar situation?

Were you asked to show the yellow fever certificate:

during check-in at the departure airport;

during transit;

or only after arriving in Accra?

Did the airline or the Ghanaian authorities check the exact vaccination date, and were there any issues because fewer than 10 days had passed?

I will have the original international yellow fever vaccination certificate with me. I would be very grateful for any recent personal experiences, especially from travellers arriving through Kotoka International Airport.

Hey y’all! So as I’m on my own journey of self discovery I’m reckoning with my cultural identity. As a 2nd generation Ghanaian American (that is I was born in America to Ghanaian immigrants) I and I know many others have struggled to find where we fit in among the global black community. It’s like we don’t quite fit in with African continent raised people and there’s a nuance and complexity to our experiences that don’t fully fit into an ethnically Black American lens either, despite being able to relate in ways to both. I feel like globally despite having different backgrounds (let’s say for instance a Nigerian Brit or Somali Canadian or any other mix) we have a lot in common with one another because of being able to relate to existing between worlds.

I’ve been looking for that community and I know that the people are out there but I think we need a space to just gather together so I created a subreddit to do just that. It’s linked here if you would like to join.

I'm going to be visiting both countries in October, and I'd like to do a loop from Accra to Kumasi to Bouaké (Ivory Coast) down to Abidjan. Has anybody (non African foreigner) taken either the Dormaa or Sampa crossing?

I'm curious in particular as to how to get to one of those crossings from Kumasi (I guess buses/minibuses are an option?) and also whether visas are an issue at either crossing. I would get visas ahead of time at the embassy rather than online.

I never thought I'd have to make another post like this, but here I am.

I'm an Economics graduate from Ghana. I had the opportunity to study abroad after receiving university admissions, but I couldn't go because I simply couldn't afford it. Watching those dreams slip away has been heartbreaking.

I come from a rural area where decent job opportunities are hard to find. I've done whatever honest work I could just to survive, but life has been incredibly difficult. As the firstborn, the pressure to support my family while struggling myself is overwhelming.

I've applied for jobs, kept trying, and refused to give up, but I'm mentally and physically exhausted. I'm posting again with my CV attached, hoping someone might know of an opportunity, a referral, or be able to point me in the right direction.

Fellow Ghanaians and Ghanaian-adjacents,

My friend and I made Twi story videos (drama, mythology, historical fiction, romance, etc) on Tik (can't say the full word) with English subtitles. We hit 1K followers in less than 5 days. Currently sitting at 4k+ followers. Our previous story about Kwaku Ananse being outsmarted by a talking Broom was well received on Tik. The recent one is on Tano and Owu. This made us realize there's a REAL audience for AUTHENTIC GHANAIAN stories IN OUR LOCAL LANGUAGES.

It saddens me that, to watch a well-produced movie in our own languages, Ghanaians have to watch a telenovela translated into Twi or other local languages to get a quality movie-watching experience.

This is why we started creating the videos. The idea is to transition into animation/actual movie production with enough money. But there's a problem...Tik doesn't pay Ghanaian creators. So, we moved over to YT, but the views are kinda sad. 5 subs, 10 views. None of the Tik audience is crossing over to YT. Don't know what exactly the issue is.

Anyone know how to increase our chances of getting more views and subscribers? Also, anyone have any idea on how to acquire support to create animations and films? (crowdfunding, grants, those typa things)?

If you've ever wished Ghanaian local language stories got the same production love as everything else we watch, you get why this matters.

EDIT: I think people are misconstruing the intention of this post. The idea is TO TRANSITION FROM AI to ACTUAL ANIMATION/MOVIE PRODUCTION WITH ACTUAL ARTISTS AND ACTORS!!!!!!!!!! I thought I made that clear, but it seems I didn't? You guys are focusing on the AI used. I have to use AI cause I can't afford the above mentioned. Which is why I made the post in the first place. Obviously, using AI ONLY is not good for the long-term or getting big. I'm aware of that. How do I build the audience and generate the funding needed to hire ACTUAL ARTISTS AND PEOPLE? I’m an American married to a Ghanaian, and after watching JerseyBird document his experience owning a lower-division club in Kenya, I’ve been wondering what the process looks like in Ghana.
This is just a long-term idea that I’m researching. I’m not looking to buy anything through Reddit or recruit anyone—I just want to understand how the football pyramid works from people with firsthand experience.
Some questions I have:
How do new clubs typically enter the football pyramid?
Is it generally easier to start a new club or take over an existing one?
How much are division 2 or 3 clubs generally?
What kind of operating budget does a typical Division Two or Division Three club need?
What do players, coaches, and staff usually earn at those levels?
Do clubs usually provide housing, transportation, or meals?
What are some of the biggest challenges that people outside Ghana wouldn’t think about?

I posted a year ago asking where to get about 1500 pieces of the one pesewa coins for an art project.

Update: I couldn't get them initially, so I later decided to replace them with rounded-headed bronze push pins. I'm using them for a simple monochromatic African Map wall art piece for my room.

I got 2000 pieces but realised I would need to order about 1200 more to complete the piece, arriving in at least 2 weeks.

The coins would have been a more legacy-imbued rendition, but I like the texturised nature of how the pins turned out too

What’s so Ghanaian about my looks ?

I get mistaken for Ghanaian everytime someone asks me where I am from and I reply, guess. It’s either Ghanaian, Suriname (descendants from Ghana) or Senegal

Got stopped this week at work by a janitor asking me if I’m not Ghanaian by any chance.

Couple years ago I was at the airport going through the metal detector when the security started speaking I guess Twi to me I replied confused and then he asked me you not from Ghana?

Fun fact: my best friend is Ghanaian and even his older sister said we look alike and even his parents

Additional Information: For people wondering; I’m 100% of Congolese descent 🇨🇩 born there, my people are called the Bandundu people.
