Hey guys it’s me again (last post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nigeria/s/l72TBI5Cnq)

So here are some jobs I’ve complied. Some may be remote, on-site or hybrid. I didn’t specify all. Many need very little experience. For locations, if it says Nigeria or if I didn’t put a location it may respect remote anywhere but not all. Hope this helps.

Will update these monthly.

Current version: June 2026

Next Update: July version will be released June 30, 2026 (If there’s zero engagement I may pause this for July 2026)

Each previous update will be made as a post in the comments.

Ask Naija Give up good life for Nigeria?

My spouse wants to move back to Nigeria. I am American he is Nigerian. We have two kids. We live in a very nice neighborhood in a average cost of living state. We have a pool in our backyard. Our kids are zoned to great schools. They are in sports, dance, baseball, swimming lessons gymnastics, karate. They are in private tutoring.

We vacation a lot. We just came back from Bahamas. We were in Puerto Rico in February. We spent two weeks in Australia for Christmas. The kids also have $100,000 saved for college so far. So basically we have a comfortable life.

We have corporate jobs earning $300k.

My husband thinks we can go back to Nigeria and start businesses and live a similar lifestyle. Nonsense or is it possible?

So not to long ago i got into a fight with my dad about tomato paste.basically what happened was that i made jollof rice and my dad tasted is and said i added to much pepper, that im wasting the peppers we have in the house and i was like ok maybe and that was what i thought was the end of the conversation so like later on he goes to check the cabinet where we put our spice+ the tin tomato paste and sees that 2 is missing. a few days ago he had bought 4 tins 2 realy small ones and 2 regular sized ones (ill add pics of them) and he told me that whenever i wanted to make jollof rice next i should use one of the small ones bc that should be enough and i was like ok,so fast forwarding to tdy i made jollof rice and i only used one of the small ones to make it like he told me. so when he checked the cabinet and saw that there were two missing he was like “so you used 2 tin to make ur rice” and i was like no i only used one , and he was like “no, you used 2 bc there were 2 missing instead of one” and i was like “no i only used one” and he was like “how could you have only used one if theres 2 missing, you’re the only one who has cooked anything tdy “ and i was like idk bc idk!!!! and he was like “ stop lying you used 2” and u was like “no i didn’t i only used one ,like if u checked the trash you would see that i only used one” he checks the trash and SEES that there only one empty tin paste there and STILL INSISTS that i used two and im like idk where the other tomato paste is so goes and looks deeper into the and finds the 3rd tin in the back and instead of admitting hes wrong,my dad spins it around and says im the one who pushed it back there and im like “no i didn’t, all the spices i needed were in the front” and he keeps insisting i did, and this basically goes on for like 2 min until he finally says lets end this and says im not allowed to use the tomato pastes anymore and i wanted to argue but like i was so tired of it all that i said okay ( plus we live like a 10 min walk from an african store so i can just go buy my own). so like my thing is that why did he keep insisting and calling my a liar even after her finds out he was wrong, like ive been thinking about this and this isn’t the first time hes done this, and this behavior is actually really common around nigerian/ african parents and im just wondering why??? ( sorry if this a hard read i did end up just ranting at some points lol)

Lady A and B are sitting together.

A takes her seat very back, touching the guy behind her. The guy says she should take it up, but she doesn't want to. So she starts talking nonsense like she's the one in the right.

So they start shouting at eachother, other people intervene, obviously on the guys side.

Then lady B feeling left out in the drama, starts her own😂

And starts shouting more than lady A, telling the guy stuff like "I dare you to touch me" I dare this I dare that.

Bro even said I double dare you, who says that anymore 😭😂

Then the bus officials came and settled it, telling the woman that she is in the wrong and inconveniencing the guy.

She ma she knows, but didn't want to let it go because of pride. Everyone then shouted at her again, but she couldn't say anything

Shame shut her up

Discussion Nigeria Needs a National Development Plan, Not Just More Money for Governors

I was thinking about what it would cost to give every local government in Nigeria basic infrastructure.

Nigeria has 774 local government areas. If every one of them had good roads, schools, health centres, clean water, electricity, a fire station, markets, and other basic public services, I estimate it would cost around US$50–95 billion over several years.

That sounds like a lot of money, but for a country with more than 200 million people, it is not impossible if the investment is spread over 10 years.

The bigger issue is this: Who should be in charge?

I don't think this should be left only to state governors.

Every governor has different priorities. One governor may build roads. Another may spend money on big projects that don't improve people's daily lives.

Another may do very little. This means the quality of life depends too much on who happens to be governor.

That is why I think Nigeria needs central planning.

By central planning, I don't mean that the federal government should control everything. I mean the federal government should create one national development plan with clear minimum standards.

For example:

- Every local government should have a certain number of good schools.

- Every local government should have functioning health centres.

- Every local government should have good roads, clean water, electricity, and emergency services.

- Every local government should meet the same basic standard, no matter which state it is in.

The states can still build and manage the projects, but they should follow one national plan.

Money should be released based on results and progress, not just shared with no clear goals.

Simply giving governors more money is not a development strategy.

Without a national plan, every state moves in a different direction, and many communities get left behind.

Nigeria doesn't just need more spending. It needs a clear plan, national standards, and accountability.

What do you think? Should the federal government set minimum development standards for every local government, or should each state continue deciding everything on its own?

Discussion bride price article!!! i need ur help please x

heya!! i’m a journalist for a women’s charity and am in the process of writing a piece on bride price. i appreciate that it’s so common for places to be like “no this is wrong” but i am truly just interested in people’s thoughts. (to be perfectly honest with you i don’t yet have strong feelings about it)

whether you agree with it or not i just wanna hear!! it will be a collecting stating your name (you can be anonymous), age, country/tribe and then a quote you have. i just want to highlight women’s actual voices on it.

feel free to message or reply to this with your thoughts. it would mean sooo much!! 😆😆😆😆

History I've read Césaire's "Discourse on Colonialism" (1950) and I can't stop thinking about one idea

Post image
79 Upvotes

I was expecting a dense theoretical slog and instead got one of the sharpest, angriest, yet most accurate essays I've ever read in a while.

In essence, Césaire says what actually horrified Europe about Nazism wasn't the cruelty itself. Europe had been fine with that cruelty for centuries — as long as it was aimed at colonized people in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. What made Hitler unforgivable, in his reading, was that he turned those same methods on white Europeans, on European soil. So the violence was not the problem, but the where and whom was.

This reminded me about the early coverage of the war in Ukraine, when reporters kept expressing shock that this was happening to "people who look like us." It seems that, 70 years later, the reflex (and maybe the underlying values?) is still the same.

The essay, albeit short, is rich with illuminating reflections. One other idea is the argument against then European claim that Africans and other colonized people were uncivilized before Europe brought them the "enlightenment". As an example, Césaire leans on the German ethnographer Leo Frobenius as a "good" European witness who admitted African societies were sophisticated. Interestingly though, and this is not in the essay, if you dig into Frobenius, he couldn't actually accept that Africans built those achievements themselves. He invented a whole lost "African Atlantis" theory to explain the art and sophistication. This idea is the intellectual cousin of "aliens built the pyramids."

Anyway. "Discourse on Colonialism" is wildly relevant for something written mid-colonial-era.

Do you think there's a meaningful causal link between Europe's colonial practices and the violence of Nazism?

We discuss Cesaire's essay at length in our podcast Threads of Ifriqiya, I will link it in the comments.
