Hi everyone,
I wanted to let you all know that r/gba is once again open to the public! Thanks to u/goldd for adding me as a mod here. I hope this can be a place where fans of the GBA (and other GB consoles) can post about their favorite games and collections.
If you have any suggestions or ideas for the sub, please feel free to post.

Given that I was born in 1981 and grew up with handhelds without backlighting, am I going to be satisfied, visibility-wise, with a stock gba? Will I be able to see it? I generally play indoors and with the room lit anyway, so I'm assuming it'll be fine. Anyone had a similar quandary, and how did it turn out? Just asking because people seem quite negative about the gba screen visibility in particular...

Hi! I recently got super into Yu-Gi-Oh and have bought a gba sp (unmodded) to play the old Yu-Gi-Oh games on! The shell is a bit scratched up so I was thinking about getting a Yu-Gi-Oh themed shell. I can’t find any for sale online though so it looks like I will have to commission someone for it. Do any of you know a good place to commission a good quality custom shell from?

My beloved GameBoy Advance is missing a battery cover and I want to get a replacement one. As there were six different clear Gameboy, I'm looking to help identify which colour mine is. Thanks!

Joined the rise of Retro collecting, bought a Modded GBA (wide not SP).bought a bunch of rom pokemons and others. Except emerald recharged that one is from a separate company that makes pokemon games but adds in special features like a built-in nuzzlock & mechanics like pokemon following you. Game is also turbo charged and everything is faster. Im waiting on pokemon mario rom, pokemon GS chronicles, & pokemon prism for my N64. If anyone knows of a good pokemon BW gba rom let me know if could only find a GB one.

I’ve noticed that when I put my GBA into sleep mode, it will wake up as long as I press the button combination soon after. However, if I leave it sitting for a while and then go back to it and try to wake it up it does not, and I have to shut it off and turn it back on to make it work again. This is inconvenient if I need to step away in the middle of the game, any thoughts?

First solder job. Destroyed the ruby/red cartridge.
2nd try on the blue/sapphire eng I did a better job. Not A but maybe B-..
Edit: tried to repair cartridge its turning on but the Nintendo part is pixelated. I already put good bit of time. So I'll probably call this one a dud. Thanks folks for the help!
I have a GB Epilogue Operator that allows me to transfer save files to my computer and back onto the cartridge. l'd like to play the "E-Reader levels" on the European (German) version of SMA4: SMB3. The E-Reader (or rather, the level cards) were never released here, but I read that the levels are actually in the game and fully localized. Once I’ve got the save file on my computer, how do I unlock the levels? I imagine I just need to change a few bits using a binary editor. Or are there already programs specifically designed to unlock the e-World? Thanks a lot.

As of today I have finally replaced my sp screen yay!
But I'm wondering if I need to keep the touch controls connected because they seem to be entering a rave mode somehow. (the one I ordered didn't come with a manual) I don't have a way to do soldering rn and I have the screen how I like it when it turns on.
Or if possible would just placing some electrical tape over the contacts remove any issues?
(this is my first ever hardware upgrade)

Just found my old movie player for the gba, if you don't know what it was. It was a early flashcart for the gba that let you use your game boy like a multimedia device (kinda like the psp in a way) but for your gameboy advance. + unlike the god awful gba video carts, You could use this with the gameboy player, which was nifty. But anyways im thinking about using it in 2026. Why? Well because i like converting videos to watch on my devices. It reminds me of a simpler time when we didn't have youtube on the phones. We had to convert it manually + dvd rips were all the rage back then, which i miss. But sorry if I am rambling im thinking about converting a film tomorrow for this device lol. Thanks for stopping buy and I'll see you in the next post.

How do you y’all store and carry your games? I favor old cassette tape cases, I can usually carry 3 gameboy advance games, or 1-1 GBA-GB. I find that 4 games is usually enough variety to have on the go. Plus it’s so customizable! Really brings that 2000s vibe

I finished my project today but my shell cracked in 5 different areas. Lesson learned do not screw the screws supplied with the shell kit in all the way, so disappointed.
UDPATE: Great news RetroModding, the store I ordered this from, agreed to send me a replacmenet at no cost I only needed to cover the shipping fees.
I swapped out the shell today and this time did not screw the case down completly and I have a fixed shell!!
For anyone installing these FunnyPlaying IPS ready clear shell kits be very mindful and careful not to install the screws all the way, these cases are prone to cracking.
