Parks and Rec Fleming loop to be upgraded to durable turf

The town has a planned upgrade to be a durable turf park. I think we are past the point of stopping the actual planned park upgrade(or not?), artificial turf based ground is usually made of polyethylene plastic grass laid out on a carpet and recycled rubber crumbs infills to hold the surface together and that’s what durable turf means usually. The rubber crumbs infill however has been a major cause for concern for a long while as kids are subject to serious harm and injuries from exposure to such materials and there are safer alternatives.

For those who are interested to know more:

https://ncceh.ca/resources/evidence-reviews/artificial-turf-playing-fields-review-evidence-health-risks-and

There are many towns and states who have already started moving in this direction so is there even a remote possibility we can get the town to consider a more safer option?

Fuquay Looking for Full-Time Pre-K Recommendations (~$1,000/Month Budget)

Hi everyone! We’re considering enrolling our 3-year-old at South Wake Preschool & Academy and would love to hear from families who have firsthand experience with the school.

We’d especially appreciate your thoughts on: • The teachers and staff • How the program supports social, emotional, and early academic development • Communication with parents • The classroom environment, daily routine, and activities • Anything you wish you had known before enrolling

We’re also looking for full-time preschool/Pre-K options in the Fuquay-Varina or Holly Springs with a budget of around $1,000 per month. If you have any recommendations or referrals for programs you've had a great experience with that fit this budget, we'd really appreciate them!

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and suggestions!

Deli on Main Street - confused

We decided to give this place a shot around 11 on Sunday and I’m really struggling to understand the hype.

First off, you can’t read the menu that’s displayed on the TVs behind the counter. The slides switch too fast and the font is too small. Whatever, NBD, I’ll let that one go.

Secondly, there’s no where to sit. Counter argument, it’s a deli, it’s supposed to be to-go. Even when it’s a thousand degrees outside you aren’t supposed to sit in the restaurant and eat your giant sandwich. Ok fine, again small potatoes.

Here’s where it really started to rub me the wrong way. No options for kids. We ended up getting a $20 cheeseburger for the kids to split that didn’t include fries. The burger was nothing special. The fries were cold and unsalted.

The adults got 2 of the signature sandwiches.

One was The Straw chicken sandwich which had a whole, burnt, tough chicken breast on each half. There was the tiniest little droplet of sauce on it. I mean a laughable amount. The bread must have been day old because (and I’m not exaggerating here) you couldn’t bite through it because of how stale it was. We had to throw the bread away when we got home and put the contents of the sandwich into a wrap to make it edible.

We also got the DiMaggio and the bread was hard enough that we could’ve chipped a tooth on it. The contents on the sandwich were palatable, but at that point I was too pissed off about the fossilized bread on the sandwich to enjoy it. I think I’m going to need a skin graft on the roof of my mouth.

We both paid extra for a side of fries and again they were uninspired. Cold, unsalted, and probably from the freezer aisle at Aldis.

Three meals totaled like 68 dollars with no drinks and all three were bad.

What do people like about this? Is the premade food good? Are the bagels good? Did we catch them on the worst day of their existence?

Idk but I think maybe we will find another spot for $15 sandwiches.

Looking for Good Place for Car Inspection

Hi, I'm new here and to NC itself. I'm looking to get my car inspected around here, but I see there's so many different places as to where I can go to do that. Does anyone here have a good place around here to recommend? Thanks.

Family friendly towns around Lumberton

My dad is buying a junk yard in Lumberton, my family is considering relocating from Florida to start over. We’re currently driving through Lumberton and a bit overwhelmed by the whole area. We’re looking for family friendly towns to look at while we’re here. We have a 4 year old and a safe neighborhood is a must. Can anyone recommend some nice towns about 30-45 minutes from Lumberton? Thank you for any input!

Moving to Raleigh area; help me tour the local towns

Moving to Raleigh area; help me tour the local towns

Looking to get a good feel for the areas around Raleigh and get a sense of where we want to settle down. We’ve done a tour of some of the areas but didn’t really get a feel for them as much as become a little familiar with the overall region. Where should one one drive to get a sense of what daily living is gonna be like in Garner, Angier, Fuquay Varina, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Knightdale, Wendell, Zebulon, Clayton, Youngsville? They each have their pros/cons so are acceptable, but outside of work/school as homebodies who like daily convenience I wanna see what each has got. Would prefer advice from those familiar rather than just pick some busy-looking spots on a map and drive from A to B without really having a sense of each as its own locale

Thanks!

Fuquay New Garage Door New Garage Door

I am looking to upgrade my garage door and have gotten 5 different quotes. I am leaning towards using Ready To Roll. Has anyone used them before? They were not the cheapest of the estimates as they were in the middle, but I liked that they upgrade a lot of the moving parts and give great warranties. Their reviews seem great online and they are a local company as well. Would love to hear others opinions and experiences if you used them.

Update: I ended up going with Ready To Roll. Door is on order now so I will update once everything is installed.

A few weeks ago I shared a Fuquay events newsletter here (quick update)

Hey everyone!

A few weeks ago I posted here about First Sip Fuquay, which is a small weekly email I started to round up things happening around town each weekend.

A bunch of people from this group checked it out, and it’s been growing every week since! I’ve now sent it every Friday for the past month, and I’m trying to keep making it more useful.

The idea is simple: every Friday morning, I send one email with things worth knowing about around Fuquay, including:

  • Live music
  • Brewery events
  • Food/drink specials
  • Festivals and markets
  • Family-friendly events
  • Local spots doing something interesting

I wanted to share the latest issue again in case anyone missed it:

July 4th Newsletter

And if you want it in your inbox every Friday, you can subscribe here:

Subscribe here

Also, I’m always looking for good local tips and local business owners to connect with. If you know about an event, restaurant, brewery, coffee shop, market, pop-up, or anything else worth including, feel free to drop it below.

Bad Experience at the Jiffy Lube on North Main

Where do I begin with this Jiffy Lube.

I brought my car in, which was already damaged by another Joffy Lube and other shops refuse to do an oil change because of the damage another Jiffy Lube caused. I told the greeter the situation and the poor kid had no clue how to handle the situation (another Jiffy Lube stripped the drain plug and I had purchased a replacement drain plug).

Another tech or manager (I couldnt tell) came over and told me that they should be able to change my oil. I said okay and went to wait in the waiting room.

An HOUR goes by and finally my car's oil is changed. I get in my car l after paying for the ridiculously overpriced oil change and head home.

When I got home, I parked the car knowing I would be gone on a business trip for several days and should be able to not worry about my car. Well, about 4 days into the trip, I get a call from my wife, there was an oil spill that was about 10 feet long leading from my car to the bottom of the hill of our driveway.

I call the Fuquay Jiffy Lube and after telling them that my car was leaking oil after their supurb oil change, they asked me who was working that day. I described both the young greeter and the tech/manager in charge that day. The individual on the phone told me that no one by those descriptions worked at their store. The individual on the phone did say that they would send someone from the Regional office to take a look at my car.

The next day, someone from another store (not someone from the regional office) stopped by my house to check out the car. When he got there he realized how big of a mistake the Fuquay Jiffy Lube had made. He said that he would take my car to the store to fix the issue. Later, I got a call that the issue was even bigger than anyone suspected and that I would need a new oil pan. He said that Jiffy Lube would install the oil pan but did not state that they would pay for it.

I finally got a call that my car was fixed and it was time for me to come get it. I go back to the store, wait another 30 minutes in the funky smelling lobby before being helped (or before any tech came into the lobby). Both the young greeter and the manager I described were working when I picked up my car (the same two that didn't work there).

Finally, I got back into my car and it stunk like weed.

I would highly recommend staying away from this Jiffy Lube. There is not a single positive thing I can say about the store. If I could give it 0 stars, I would.

How to get prescription glasses tested

Our child recently had an eye exam and was prescribed glasses. We purchased a pair through the doctor's office, but they were quite expensive. We then ordered a second pair online using the same prescription as backup and would like to verify that the lenses were made correctly and match the original pair.

Unfortunately, our current eye doctor will not check glasses that were not purchased through their office. Is there a way to verify the prescription of glasses purchased elsewhere?
