Welcome to the [r/formula1](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/) Daily Discussion / Q&A thread.

This thread is a hub for general discussion and questions about Formula 1, that don't need threads of their own.

Are you new to Formula 1? This is the place for you. Ever wondered why it's called a lollipop man? Why the cars don't refuel during pitstops? Or when Mika will be back from his sabbatical? Ask any question you might have here, and the community will answer.

Also make sure you check out our guide for new fans, and our FAQ for new fans.

Are you a veteran fan, longing for the days of lollipop men, refueling during pitstops, and Mika Häkkinen? This is the place to introduce new fans to your passion and knowledge of the sport.

Remember to keep it civil and welcoming! Gatekeeping within the Daily Discussion will subject users to disciplinary action.

Day after Debrief 2026 Belgian GP - Day After Debrief

Welcome to the Day after Debrief discussion thread! Now that the dust has settled in Belgium, it's time to calmly discuss the events of the last race weekend. Hopefully, this will foster more detailed and thoughtful discussion than the immediate post race thread now that people have had some time to digest and analyse the results.

Low effort comments, such as memes, jokes, and complaints about broadcasters will not be deleted since I do not have that power, but I will be very disappointed with you. We also discourage superficial comments that contain no analysis or reasoning in this thread (e.g., 'Great race from X!', 'Another terrible weekend for Y!').

Thanks!

Social Media [Motorsport] Isack Hadjar: "Because of Towing, My Engine Software Got Confused". Hadjar admitted that his attempt to give towing to Max Verstappen in Q3 of the Belgian GP ended up confusing his power unit's software.

Post image

That's because the computer didn't predict that Hadjar would slow down at T14 to wait for Verstappen's car, making the engine's behavior hard to predict since the software was confused about how much power to deliver in the next straight.

"It was really hard to know what the engine would deliver, because as soon as I stopped at T14 and floored it again, the engine acted confused since I suddenly stopped for no reason. The software was baffled.

"On the first attempt in Q3, I had too much power and ended up pulling away from him (Max). On the second attempt, I didn't have enough power. It was really unpredictable."

Social Media David Croft on the 2026 power units: "What we saw at Silverstone and Spa, classic tracks, where the power unit dominated and not for the right reasons is not what we need as F1 fans. [...] There was too much leanness going on with the energy and I don't think we got the racing that we deserved"

Discussion Can't we do something about the TV direction? No replays, midfield fights only in a small screen

This season I'm really frustrated by the TV direction. It seems they've gone down the MotoGP route. They only show the drivers at the front, even when it's really obvious there won't be an overtaking possibility. The fights in the midfield are only shown in a small picture in picture screen, and replays aren't shown at all. For example the Gasly, Lawson, Colapinto fight in Spa, or the Piastri, Albon clash in Canada. For the latter, it took ages to show a replay (only picture in picture).

I can image the teams (and their sponsors) in the midfield aren't happy either, because they hardly get any screen time at all.

It seems the TV direction is so afraid of missing something at the front, that they only focus on the front-runners and totally forget about the midfield fight, which usually is just as exciting, if not more exciting.

Does anyone agree?

News Is Ferrari the favorite for Budapest? Data suggests caution. While the SF-26 excels in slow corners, traction issues could hurt them. Mercedes remains the true reference due to their consistency in keeping C5 in its operating window and better tire management.
