Hello, I’m currently pet sitting and I’ve had this dilemma before with someone else where I don’t agree with how they’re being kept. I don’t know much about fish at all but would really appreciate some help so I can gently advise my friend as it makes me feel depressed seeing all these fish in this tank.

I don’t know what type of fish they are, I don’t know what their requirements are exactly. But I’ve seen people mention before about having outdoor ponds in black containers which offer so much more space. The problem is they have a dog so I don’t know how she would act with them or if any dog owners who have pet fish can advise?

It would also be good to know dimensions that they need. I think I’ve counted 12 fish in there, some of them are babies. I feel very strongly about pets being kept in these conditions, plus they’re right underneath the TV - that’s got to stress them out, right?

Any advice is welcome so I can speak to my friend about this! And saying to just take them isn’t an option, I think my friend would be receptive to advice it’s just a real shame that these tanks are allowed to be sold so a lot of people don’t know any better and don’t think to research fish or rodents properly as they think they’re an easy pet that don’t require much, but this is their entire world.

From a petsmart cup to a 9 gallon planted tank. She spends her day exploring, squeezing between plants and just staring at everything. I can almost hear her thoughts like "wow, what is *that*?" as she glares at everything 😁

She was pale white when I bought her. There were prettier bettas but I liked her personality the most. She was curious from the start and just dying to get out of that cup

These guys are at least a couple feet long. I saw one of them gulp up some algae or something. There’s 10+ of them in the entire pond, which is a super tiny drainage pond.

Okay they are goldfish I won’t release them. I tried to bring them to the leasing office of my apartment building but they’re closed. I’m going to leave them in some shade then consider taking them home with me and taking care of them.

It was just floating around the top of the water all day while I was fishing

I know it’s a long shot, but I have been wondering for a while now what I saw.
There was this pink fish, with a heart shaped tail when I was swimming on the pacific side of Japan near the shore. I think someone released it because it was lethargic and couldn’t swim properly. Also, it literally swam to my hands. I was a child at the time so I unfortunately couldn’t do anything to help it. I later tried looking for information on it but I can’t seem to find anything on it.

My memory isn’t the best, and I can’t remember the specific details of the fish, but I tried my best to draw it from memory. I can’t remember what the other fins looked like so I didn’t draw them in.

I don’t think I imagined it, but if you think it’s a figment of my imagination then that’s ok too. I just need to know for sure.
