Final Fantasy General I miss classic Final Fantasy

I feel like from XIII onwards the series has radically changed. The gameplay is nothing like we ever had before, and the identity of the games has been lost in my point of view.

The only thing modern titles have in common with older FF is a few names and references. And while I'm aware of series like Bravely default or tactics, i wish the mainline titles didn't go through this process of becoming more and more action based.

FF X/X2 Back to Japanese Immersion with my favorite FF game that I never played before

Found best girl, yay!
Hello Valef.... Valfarre? Valfarei? Vallfarey? somebody help, lol
I'm a bad man apparently

Using PS2 emulator because it's easier to look up Japanese words on PC, and also because I hate the HD Remaster models.

Lulu's Japanese voice definitely sounds a lot less... mean than the US version, even when scolding Wakka, she sounds way more concerned than pissed off.

As the alt text implies, Valefor's (I think that's their US name?) name is a bit different in Japanese, pronounced as something like "Baarufare" or something like that, not sure how one would write this in Romaji.

And of course being reminded of the odd localization differences, like the fact that the term Aeon is an invention of the US localization, where the Japanese Original opts for the more generic "Summoned Beast" term. And other slight differences on pronounciations.

Also funny how despite growing up watching playthroughs of this game, and watching constant streams of people speedrunning this game, I still managed to get lost in the Besaid Shrine for a few minutes lol.

Final Fantasy General Con quale Final Fantasy iniziare?

Dissidia [OC] Dissidia Final Fantasy Dream Roster (2-3): Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier (“Glenn Lodbrok”). A relentless soldier—the first of his kind—seeks his true calling, only to be swept far beyond into even more distant lands!

I actually did think of making a default character the protagonist for TFS, but in the process, I noticed how very hard Squenix tried to shove Glenn and his team down the collective throats of the fandom, so I figured, eh, might as well give it to Glenn. I played the TFS briefly, and although I find it nothing very, very special, I’d say the outcome was kind of fairly decent, and the effort Squenix had placed for the narrative was at least commendable, even bringing Glenn into Rebirth. Like I said, I find FF in different genres somewhat refreshing, and even in the short life span TFS had, I’d say the rumble game at least made someone happy. In any case, I actually thought Glenn was a good enough character, that maybe I could have put him in a Dissidia dream roster as Ever Crisis’s protag, but I ultimately decided TFS should get him.

Any way, I hope you like ‘em.

Which warrior of light do you see piercing the shadows?

Final Fantasy General Suggest me a FF with a deep and emotional story from 1 to 6. My favourite is X and I only played X 🙃

I want to start with one of those. I think I played 1 and tried 2 on psp year ago and I know after that they become more mature. I can find a good story or they are just RPGing around like first?

‼️EDIT / reply for all :

Wow, I’ve never been flooded with so many replies in such a short time. What an amazing community!

Sorry if I can’t reply to everyone individually but I read everyone and I will continue to do so because your advices are very good with what I was searching for.

I was torn between the first six games because I’ve been diving into the PS1 lately, trying to catch up on the masterpieces I missed as a kid. I also had a good feeling about 4 and 6 , and you’ve all pretty much confirmed it!

Between those two, I think I’ll let the market decide—whichever one I can find first at a reasonable price. That said, I’m definitely leaning toward 6.

Thanks again!

Final Fantasy General I Played Every Final Fantasy Game And It Ruined My Life

Hey Fellow Final Fantasy Fans! A while ago I played every mainline game in the series (except 11 and 14) and decided to rank them all! My videos are a mix between comedy and edutainment, and after a year this has been my most successful video! I'd be keen to hear feedback and discussion around the opinions I presented here! Cheers!

Edit: I'll come around to 11 and 14 later, I just wanted to give them more time given how massive they both are compared to the other games. I apologise for not including them here, I was worried if I committed to them the video would never get finished.

Final Fantasy General Should i start with XVI or VII?

I was scrolling thru the PS game catalogue and saw these games, should i start with final fantasy XVI or final fantasy VII remake intergrade?

Final Fantasy General Is the idea that your first Final Fantasy will end up being your favorite as common as people say it is?

I’m just curious to see how many people in this subreddit have had the same experience. I started with VII and it immediately became my favorite game ever. I think it has to do with getting to experience the combat systems and mechanics of a Final Fantasy for the first time. I think that first experience really sticks with you above all else. I’m curious to hear about people who started with a favorite and then changed their minds when playing later games as well!

FF XIII Series I LOVE Final Fantasy 13

I'm writing this while sitting in the train at around 12 in the evening. I have no work tomorrow and about an hour or so left in the game before the final boss. I can't wait to get home and beat the game. It has absolutely grabbed me for some reason. I am blown away by it.

It is simple and cozy. The characters are so relatable to me, very well written, very human.

This game has so much raw emotion and melancholy. The scene where Sazh gets his summon is amazing, and I think people who dislike Vanille clearly have not finished the game. The soundtrack is absolutely incredible. The artstyle is beautiful. The battle system is a lot of fun and you can get quite good at it, which made battles more fun as the game progressed. The structure of the game is pretty much fight-story-fight-story-etc. Every fight has some story with pretty cutscenes as a reward. Some satisfying dopamine after a fight each time haha. It made for a game that I could play in long and short sessions and feel like I accomplished something each time.

To me the story all in all is quite simple to understand. The lore seems intimidating, but only the vague concepts of l'cie and fal'cie are a little meh and I get that a lot of people are put off by that. But if you ignore that little bit of nonsense, the story is straight forward, emotional and beautiful to follow along with.

This is a game that was perfect for my backlog. I was 12 when it came out in 2009 and have not touched it ever before, but it still somehow felt nostalgic to play. I had no prior expectations, just saw it as something to sink my teeth into. Does it have flaws? Yes, of course. But it's such a well crafted package. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. And if that doesn't do it for you, I totally understand. But if you get it, you GET it. It did for me at least. Final Fantasy 13 has a special place in my heart now. I can't wait to start the second game.

EDIT: just finished the final boss and watched the final cutscenes. Absolute BANGER ending

Just made what I thought would be a nice dissidia roster, should they ever make another proper one. I feel like I shouldve added more FFCC characters and made Layle base roster, but I lowkey got lazy 🥲

FF XII Poor Basch is Kimahri in my Party. I barely use him

He's awesome and Epic but he hardly ever does anything that isnt phoenix down downed characters when a fight goes awry. He's a Knight but since Swords arent as Disk One Nuke-ish, Vaan and Basch mostly just sit around I guess... But Vaan at least can steal and he's vital in that aspect. Are there any cool swords I could give to them after Drarklord Laboratory?

FF X/X2 Can we stop using "you just didn't understand it" to defend the laughing scene in FFX?

Every time this scene gets brought up, half the comments are just people echoing the same thing. "you missed the point, it's SUPPOSED to be fake and forced!"

Yeah. We know. Everyone gets it. it's an incredibly basic scene. Not even remotely deep or hard to understand.

Yuna is dealing with a ton of stress and and Tidus is trying to cheer her up by forcing themselves to fake laugh as a coping mechanism. The narrative reason behind it isn't complex, and nobody is missing the thematic intent.

The problem is that understanding why a scene exists doesn't magically make the execution good. The voice acting is so abrasive that knowing the context doesn't fix how awful it actually is to listen to. A scene can be intentionally awkward and still be genuinely bad that kills the momentum of the moment.

It's a completely unbelievable interaction based on how it was actually scripted and voice acted.

FF IV So I'm playing FF4 on my DS and Im kinda confused

Just as a background, the only ff Ive played before this is og 7 but i dropped that at the part where chocobos are introduced because i was getting frustrated with the chocobo catching mechanic.

Now a year later , I've been putting off starting it up again despite wanting to play it again. But i found out my 250 in 1 DS games cartridge has FF 4 and 3 and thought playing one of those should be lower commitment , so i started on 4.

What confuses me is why does 4 have better graphics than 7 in some places? Like theres a full scale opening cutscene that looks as good as the newer final fantasy games , yet ff7 never had anything like that? Also its got 3d cutscenes as good if not better than 7. Plus the battles are 3d and maybe the normal gameplay is 3d too(it has a 2d vibe so cant tell). I thought ff 1-6 were pixel games?

The opening cutscene especially confuses me, considering kitase is the one who pushed for realism in these games, yet the first game he worked on which was 7 didnt have this quality for the prerendered cutscene

Also, this is no shade to 7, i loved how 7 looked , just curious how the graphics are better in a way older game

Edit : ok i just realized im playing a 3d remake lol, didnt know that existed, my DS just said Final Fantasy 4 , so i thought it was the og
