I’m currently writing my first ever fanfiction. It’s based around an alien and a human. does anyone have any tips in general for writing?

I've been writing fanfics for a niche character for a while now. Since hes not the most deep in canon, I've had a lot of headcanons that drive stories. Ive been putting little nods to other stories I wrote into newer fics, or building off and exploring things I meantioned in previous fanfics more in a different plot. I try to explain things so that the stories can be understood even without reading previous fics I wrote, but only a few I made into an actual series on AO3.

I'm just curious, what are people's thoughts when authors do things like that? Like where they make their own little mini continuity across fics that aren't AUs? Also should I tag them differently? I mostly just tag each fic as if they're their own separate story, since they do all have their own unique and separate stories even if there's some themes and beats and backstories that make a lot more sense and are more thematic if you've read everything.

I've been struggling with when I'm making a character speak in my recent fics- and have been realizing that it's all starting(or always ending) with just "says [character name], or said [character name)" and I don't know how to stop.. any ideas on how to avoid repeating those things, or any alternatives?

On another note I also feel like I've been saying "as" and "before" a lot in my stories too.. I feel like I'm having same face syndrome but with writing

I've been really wanting to write a fanfic lately. Not a huge project — actually, I'd like to keep it fairly small, write it mostly for myself, finish it first, and maybe publish it afterwards if I'm happy with it.

The problem is… I can't pick a fandom.

I have several fandoms I like, but right now none of them gives me that "YES, I need to write something about this" feeling. And when I try to force myself to come up with a plot or an OC for one of them, my brain just goes completely blank.

The weird thing is that I really want to write. It's not the act of writing that I'm tired of. I just don't seem to have a story or fandom that's grabbing me enough to start.

I also tend to enjoy writing OCs into existing universes, so I'd probably like to do that again.

Has this ever happened to you?

Do you wait until a fandom/story naturally grabs you again? Do you use prompts? Revisit old fandoms? Pick something almost at random and start writing until an idea appears?

I'd especially love to hear from people who write mostly for themselves and only publish once a story is finished.

Hi!!! So I am new to the fanfic universe and I feel like I opened my life to a world that I wish I found sooner!! Apparently Marvel is the most popular fandom that has the most fanfics which is amazing because my current hyperfixation is MCU and I’m rewatching all the movies.

BUT I love a good OC romance fic and I usually read M/F but I’m honestly open to anything so what are the best fics out there? Like the CLASSICS like I know in the HP fandom the classic fic was Manacled, does MCU have any of those?

Has anyone ever tried going for the Persona approach of a character that is labled with a Major Arcana, with their personality being based off it?

I'm trying to do the same, but I want to know some traits people think are a given for ceirtain Arcanas.

Is there any way (on the website or otherwise) to extend the additional tags given in the filter list? For example, when I’m filtering in the include category and click the additional tags drop down, I am only shown the top 10 most used tags in that relationship. Is there any way to view more of those tags by extending that display on the website to perhaps see the top 20 or more? If not, is there some other way to do it through an excel sheet or anything similar? Thank you to anyone who helps :)

ive noticed this thing in some fics on both ao3 and wattpad (In my defense of wattpad some old fandoms I like have no fixs in ao3 but have some on wattpad) sometime even tumblr. Basically they tag a ship but they mena it in a friendship way even if they are using the romantic tag. in the end it turns out they are shipping one of the characters with an oc or reader.

so Im just wondering has anybody else encountered this? Cause in almost any fandom Im in I always see this.

Resumidamente, de 2020 a 2024 eu li uma fanfic do Draken x S/n no wattpad onde a S/n tinha um amigo chamado Hakkey (se não me engano era assim que escrevia) e ele namorava o Hanma em algum momento dessa FANFIC. Ela tinha hot, e o Daisuke, pai da S/n era empresário, o Hakkey era filho de um cara da máfia que foi amigo do Daisuke no passado, e aí ele abandonou o filho e o Daisuke que cuidou quase como irmão da S/n, mas se não me engano ele tinha uns problemas de violência. Também lembro que ele tinha um amigo que se chamava Akira, que lá pro fim da história namorava o Daisuke. A mãe da S/n tinha morrido e o Baji tinha interesse amoroso nela, só que começou a sair do controle e a autora matou ele. Se não me engano depois ela fez uma fanfic com o mesmo princípio do Baji, só que agora matando o Hakkey e deixando o Hanma mó mal. Eu não lembro muito da FIC em si, alguém me ajuda a achar ou lembra dessa história??

Is that okay to add some music in my work?

So im looking for a fic that's main story is the autobots and decepticons interacting peacefully with each other because the war against each other was shown as more of a consistent argument between optimus and Megatron that constantly causes them to fight. The other characters are tired of it, but if I remember right, they can't be bothered to try and stop them.

Im just not to sure what the difference between them are
