Why I don't want to move back to banks

The longer I'm in crypto the less I like the idea of relying on banks for everything.

The biggest problem has never been self-custody it has been usability. If I can hold my own assets, why should I have to move them back into a bank account every time I want to buy something? I feel like the missing piece is a way to keep full control of my funds while still being able to spend them as easily as using a regular card. Maybe I'm asking for too much but this feels like the future I signed up for when I first got into crypto

Tokenized stocks are finally real on Ethereum

I think this is not being talked about enough. Robinhood allows us to own stocks via its Ethereum L2 and apps such as Lighter already allow using them as collateral for positions. It's a matter of time until it's integrated with Aave and every other major defi app.

Nearly everyone was talking about this being right around the corner a couple of years ago and how stocks were only the first step towards tokenization of real world assets. Well, now it's here. What's next? Stocks were obvious for anyone with sharp eyes, now I think the next thing to come will be government bonds/treasury securities and then probably real estate. Thoughts?

76% of Ethereum tokens launched in the last 2 months are scams (we re-ran our 78k-token study)

Two months ago I posted here after analyzing 78,723 Ethereum token contracts and finding 46% scored as scams. I re-ran the same query today. The table now holds 112,114 contracts, and the all-time rate rose to 59.8%.

But the average buries the story. Of the 31,172 tokens deployed since that post, 76.4% are scams, and the monthly rate just hit 82.8% in July.

Honesty check, because I got asked this directly: how much of the 46 -> 60 jump is a scammier chain vs a sharper detector? Both, and I can't cleanly separate them:

- More scams: every real-time month lands between 70% and 83% at a fixed 70+ threshold.

- Sharper detector: a scam now carries 11.06 flags on average vs 8.27 in May (+34%), new detectors landed (serial-scammer bytecode, drainer kits, hidden kill-switches). Our score floors on flag COUNT, so more flags push more contracts over the line.

- Late rugs: ~30% of the table gets re-scored a day+ later. A token clean at launch that pulls liquidity a week later flips clean -> scam with zero new scams deployed.

TL;DR

- 78,723 -> 112,114 contracts in 2 months.

- All-time scam rate 46.1% -> 59.8% (three overlapping causes, not one).

- New launches since May: 76.4% scams. July: 82.8%.

- 441,762 distinct victim wallets traced across 5.26M scam-token transactions.

Full breakdown with the monthly chart and the limits-of-our-data section:

https://rektradar.io/blog/posts/new-ethereum-tokens-76-percent-scams

EDIT: a few of you asked the right question, so i went and pulled it. how much of this 76% is detectable AT LAUNCH vs only later? tracking the same 24,150 launches from deploy to day 30: 48% score as scams at launch, 91% by day 30. 43% are late rugs (clean at launch, scam within a month). and 76% of the flagged ones actually got traded vs 67% of legit deploys that never trade. full writeup + chart: https://rektradar.io/blog/posts/how-many-ethereum-scams-detectable-at-launch

WETH retrieval

Has anyone sent WETH to Robinhood and successfully gotten it back?

I’m aware I shouldn’t have done it, only wondering if anyone’s been able to get it returned.

Cointer - Free wallet monitoring and dashboard for BTC/ETH with push notifications (beta)

Hello,

A little while ago I posted about a project concept I had. The idea was a web-app and a mobile app where you add the wallet address you want to watch. Cointer checks the blockchain for you. When a watched address gets a deposit, you get a notification and a dashboard of activity/totals. No accounts, no passwords. Just a single personal key that ties everything together.

This is aimed at people who receive donations via crypto, streamers, or people who want to watch their wallets. Of course, most wallets already have this feature, but this takes it to the next step.

It allows you to be notified over mobile push notifications, ntfy, Discord, Slack, or just by email. Then, it compiles (up to 90 days) all transactions into a clean dashboard showing your totals for the last day, week, and month with a breakdown by watched addresses and assets. There is an activity page with a full history of deposits and pagination.

I've developed quite a few OSS projects and gotten sponsors from many hosting companies which is what allowed me to set this up for a beta. However, for this beta the amount of users I can support is quite small.

There is no real catch here. Know that there is a 10 wallet and 10 notification channel limit and notifications are not always guaranteed.

More info in the comments.

Thank you for reading,
Luke

Can blockchain become a trust layer for real-world events?

One thing I've been thinking about recently is that blockchains are great at verifying digital information—but they still struggle to verify physical reality.

For example:

  • Did someone actually visit a location?
  • Was a delivery completed?
  • Did an inspection really happen?
  • Can an AI agent prove it interacted with the physical world?

GPS alone isn't enough anymore, and centralized systems require trust.

I've been working on an open protocol called GeoProof that explores using multi-signal verification to generate cryptographically verifiable attestations for real-world events.

The goal isn't to replace existing blockchains, but to provide a reusable verification layer that applications can integrate regardless of which chain they use.

I'd really appreciate feedback on whether this problem is worth solving and whether you think an open protocol is the right approach.

Just build on L1?

I remember Vitalik tweeting, "You can just build on L1."

I am wondering if this is a joke or not?

I have something I am working on and just want to build on L1.

I remember the days that gas costs were $200 for a basic swap at some point.

Can these $200 per swap days come back?

first etherealize and ethereum community foundation. then ethlabs. now ethereum institutional. wth is going on?

i produced an explainer on the new wave of ethereum-aligned organizations splintering off from the ethereum foundation:

  • etherealize,
  • the ethereum community foundation, and
  • ETHLabs, launching on june 22nd with five senior EF researchers and significant institutional backing

the day after ETHLabs, the EF announced it was cutting 20% of its workforce 🥲

it's been a chaotic, turbulent time within the ethereum ecosystem, and i wanted to document my thoughts on why this is happening now and what that could mean for the future of ethereum.

lo and behold, as i was finishing production, yet another independent organization founded by ex-EF team members spawned: ethereum institutional.

the story literally outran the edit/production 😂

the evidence points both directions: vitalik was writing about distributing the protocol's brain trust across multiple orgs back in 2017. but you can also read this moment as a centre shrinking faster than what the ecosystem is ready to absorb.

video: https://youtu.be/sF3NlQBIQDE

genuine question for anyone closer to the research side: is coordination between these orgs actually happening anywhere visible? shared calls, forums, roadmap alignment?

-----------

if we're meeting for the first time — hi 👋 i built this channel to spread the good word on good work in crypto. a like, a comment, and a sub on my channel goes a long way to supporting my work :)

I asked AI to explain the 5 Ethereum entities as if they were Star Trek TNG characters

We're beginning to get so many orgs I'm losing track of what they do. Something lighthearted for a green day (let me have this we don't have many):

  • Ethereum Foundation → Guinan. No command rank and no orders, just moral and spiritual guidance that the whole ship trusts above almost anyone's. It steers values, not operations. (Personally I think a retired Admiral Picard also works here).

  • Ethlabs → the Enterprise's main computer. The core protocol and infrastructure substrate everything else runs on top of — foundational, always-on, invisible until it breaks. Not a crew member, but the layer that makes the crew possible.

  • Ethereum Institutional → Counselor Troi (as ship's ambassador). It reads what the institutions actually need and coordinates first contact, handling engagement, education, and market intelligence. The empathic diplomat who bridges the ship to the wider civilization.

  • EthSystems → Data and Geordi combined. Data takes the abstract institutional directive — private from the market, transparent to the regulator — and computes it into precise architecture, while Geordi engineers it into production systems that carry real financial activity.

I forgot to ask about Etherealized. Maybe it's like Commander Riker in that First Officer exchange episode. He goes to other civilizations and sleep with their women understand their culture in order to better cooperate with them.
