Hey everyone! I'm an incoming freshman majoring in Electrical Engineering this fall, and I'd appreciate some feedback on my first-semester schedule.

Current schedule:

• MAT 266 – Calculus II
• CHM 114 – General Chemistry for Engineers
• EEE 120 – Digital Design Fundamentals (+ lab)
• FSE 100 – Introduction to Engineering
• ASU 101 – First-Year Seminar
• PHI 101 (considering dropping this or replacing it with CSE 110( which is a Java class))
• UNI 120- Mandatory academic success class that teaches study skills

If I drop PHI 101, I'd still be at 14 credits and would use the extra time to either work an on-campus job (around 10–15 hours/week), study more, and train for soccer.

Also, a few questions:

• Overall, how would you rate this schedule (1–10)?
• Would you keep PHI 101 or drop it?
• Is 14 credits a better first-semester load for an EE major?
• If you worked part-time as an engineering freshman, how many hours per week did you find manageable?

I’m going to study computer engineering as an undergrad starting this September and the more i search about it the more contradict opinions i see about it.

Some says that it’s one of the best engineering degrees and is broad but some says it’s useless.

Also, as someone who hates AI i’m more terrified since i’m sure it will include AI a lot.

However, i can change my major during my second year and i was thinking about other majors but i don’t have a lot of options in my university. (I can also change my university too so i might have other options too)

The options in my university are:
Mechanical, civil and environmental , electronics and communications, automotive, industrial, construction, bioinformatics, information engineering, process, biotech, maritime science and technology (these are all i remember)

So what’s your advice, should i change my major or should i continue CE

I had a lab exam and honestly, it didn't go well. I couldn't even get the correct output. After I finished the exam and was walking up to submit my paper, a small cheat sheet that was still in my pocket accidentally fell out, by then I had already finished writing. The examiner saw it, and now I have no idea what will happen next. I know I shouldn't have brought it into the exam hall, and I regret doing that. I feel really guilty, especially because my mom didn't even scold me— and somehow that feels worse. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What happened in your case? What should I expect, and is there anything I should do now?

I just wrapped up my second semester of ECE. I took Physics 1 (Mechanics and Thermodynamics), and while I don’t have my exact final score yet, I know I got destroyed. My final grade will likely be under 60%, so I'm considering retaking it.

My Situation & What Went Wrong:

• False confidence: I came from a specialized math/physics high school, so I assumed I knew the material better than I actually did. I ended up missing many deeper concepts.
• Bad study strategy: I skipped homework assignments because I was constantly cramming last-minute for quizzes.
• External factors: I had surgery mid-semester and missed several labs and classes. (Though to be honest, my poor study habits were the bigger issue).

The Dilemma: If I retake it, the only slot available is in my 2nd year, 2nd semester. My scheduled course load for that term is already heavy:

• Circuits & ECE Lab
• Abstractions (Programming) & MATLAB
• Physics 3 (Optics)
• Philosophy & Political Science

My Questions:

1. Knowledge vs. Workload: I genuinely want to master this material—especially Thermodynamics—and fix my grade. Is adding Physics 1 to that already packed 2nd-year semester doable, or am I setting myself up for burnout?
2. Career & Grad School Impact: How important is Physics 1 (Mechanics/Thermo) for getting into a good ECE Master’s program or landing a solid job in the industry? Does a bad grade in Physics 1 red-flag your transcript if your core ECE grades are strong later on?

I am really confused on which degree to pick. I was doing Medicine degree (MBBS) but due to my ADHD and the confusing mutiple choice questioning and wording, I unfortunately marginally failed and now got kicked out of medical school in Year 3. In med school, I excelled in practical applications, anatomy and placements, working in person with the doctors. I am 26 years old now in the same position as a high school graduate... I know I have a lot of potential that I unfortunately was not able to provide during my time in medical school due to new found untreated ADHD but I have to move forward. I also reside in the UK.

Why I think engineering is the next best option is that I excelled in maths and engineering science studies in school. I am very practical and learn on the job and my hobbies entail electronics repair, soldering and microsoldering. I also volunteer to help working in an automotive garage where I am responsible for maintainance of car in regards to filter change, engine oil change etc etc and still learning new things in the garage where I am slowly picking up more trust in doing complex tasks.

I applied for a masters degree in both Mechatronics or mechanical and electrical engineering. I want a full hollistic knowledge/understanding of engineering which I think mechatronics engineering is the way to go but i also heard it never goes too deep into any engineering + I heard the job market is not great for someone who is ambitious and wants to maximise their full potential. At the same time, i skip some ascepts of engineering doing mechanical and electrical engineering but I can get more success in the future with jobs if i perform well in the degree. I also applied for just masters in mechanical engineering. I need more knowledge on what all the engineering entails so that i can make a good choice.

Hello everyone, thank you to the people who pushed me to go ahead and just apply. I just got an email from the lead of the rover team that I passed the initial application, and I am invited to the face-to-face interview at the university on Monday, July 27.

I am informed that I will be given 15 minutes to answer targeted questions on my desired roles, background, interests, and other relevant topics.

FYI, the roles I applied for are Navigation and Communication as my first choice, then Drone Development (aiding the rover to map out the terrain) as my second choice.

I am very nervous. I have 5 days to prepare for the interview.

Do you have any advice for me to do well in the interview? What advice do you have before, during, and after the interview?

I am a senior high school student about to finish and get into college. I've been intrested a lot in Mechatronics and Mechatronics systems. (Specifically Robotics).

So I've been thinking about this program in my university and if it's good enough to justify a bachelor's degree in it or if I just get a Mechanical degree.

(Note that I am from the Middle East and not from the US or Europe.)

I am a newly graduated electrical engineering student who is having a hard time deciding between a distribution engineer at Georgia power or a project engineer at EAE. I accepted my first offer at GA power at the time a month ago because that’s all I had at the time but later received a called from the other asking for an interview and then extended me and offer. I was told that if I go take the other one than more than likely GA Power would never take me back, but I’m not sure which is better. EAE was more pay but what I felt like was less actual engineering but GA power was more long term benefits. I’m not sure which company is better for the start of my career given that I still prefer to work in defense but need something for now to pay the bill. If it matters EAE is paying more. Please help and thank you in advance. One other piece of info is that EAE was specifically hiring a electrical engineer where as GA Power has a lot of mechanical in the position I am taking but it is a electrical position and for some reason that makes me feel weird. I’m a rising senior wanting to major in industrial engineering, but didn’t add physics to my schedule because I didn’t think I’d go into engineering at the time. I can still take the class, but I’d have to add several more courses as well as drop my (non-engineering related) internship. I perform above average in pretty much everything, so I’d probably still do fine if I just take physics in college, but I’m worried because it’s recommended to take it in high school. Is it fine to keep my internship and not take physics until college?

I'm joining SRM KTR ECE next week. My long-term goal is to get a top GATE rank and pursue M.Tech in a semiconductor-related branch at an IIT. At the same time, I want to crack good internships as early as possible.

The only thing worrying me is that my maths isn't very strong right now.

So I wanted to ask seniors:

How badly will weak maths affect me in ECE and GATE prep?

Can I realistically improve enough during college?

If your goal was internships + GATE, what would your roadmap look like from 1st year?

What skills should I prioritize, and what should I avoid wasting time on?

Please share the ground reality, not generic "work hard" advice. I'd love to hear from ECE seniors, SRM students, IITians, or anyone in the semiconductor field.

I am definitely not stupid (120 IQ on the Mensa test), but despite always loving maths, I know that my strength is languages (despite not being interested in them). I really liked tech from when I was a little kid, and I just really want to be good and knowledgeable at this job. I am ok at maths (I was always sitting at about a 90 at school), however I was in all the gifted programs in English, not maths. Like, ultimately, I am working in the field I have dreamed of since I was really little, but I am very scared that my intelligence won't make me good enough to excel in this career. So, how much of a role does it play? I want to go into electrical/civil, but am more heavily leaning towards civil.

I finished my second round interview today for an aerospace engineering internship. The company is small and the interview was with a fairly high level person. We had it scheduled for 30 but we finished in 15.

It started with their introduction and mine, followed by three technical questions about my projects. The third technical question was based on my answer to the second question, and I felt like he seemed a bit interested. Then there was one behavioral/personality question, which I think I answered well (my answer was a combo of my personal history and the company’s vision/mission). After that, he said he didn’t have anything else for me and asked if I had any questions for him. I asked two technical questions, and he answered them pretty comprehensively, I think.

The whole thing was over in 15 minutes. He was pretty much expressionless and had a poker face. There was no small talk or anything like that.

Is this a good sign or a bad sign?

Also, is it recommended that I send him a thank you note?
