Question Feeling unsure about my engagement ring.

Hi! (Sorry long post, my nails are not done and diamond needs cleaning) I wanted to get some advice or hear from anyone who’s gone through something similar.
I got engaged a couple of weeks ago, and I am so excited! ❤️ But I’ve been going back and forth on how I feel about my engagement ring, and it’s honestly been messing with my head.
For some context, my fiancé and I designed it together. One thing I was very clear about was that I wasn’t a big fan of a split shank. We were told it would be closed as much as possible, but “as much as possible” ended up being more open than I expected. Some days I absolutely love it, and other days I catch myself thinking something feels a little off.
The other thing that sent me into a spiral was a comment from a friend. She mentioned the diamond looked so big, but the way she said it felt…off. Maybe I’m completely internalizing it or reading too much into it, but ever since then I’ve been questioning whether I chose a diamond that’s too big. Before that comment, I genuinely loved it.
Now I find myself wondering if the diamond suits my finger, if it’s the split shank that’s throwing me off, or if I’m just overthinking everything. I also keep wondering how a wedding band will look with it. Then there are plenty of moments where I look down at it and think it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s like I’m constantly bouncing between loving it and second-guessing it.
Has anyone else experienced this after getting engaged? Is it normal to have these kinds of feelings at first? Did you eventually stop overanalyzing your ring? I’d really love to hear your experiences because I feel like I’m in my own head right now.
For reference, it’s a 4 ct lab-grown elongated cushion

Question My fiancé is American and I’m Brazilian. Is this considered a “bad” engagement ring in the US?

Hi everyone!

I'm Brazilian and my fiancé is American, so our engagement has been a mix of two cultures.

In Brazil, engagement rings aren't as traditional as they are in the US. Many couples simply exchange wedding bands when they get engaged, so I didn't really grow up with expectations about what an engagement ring should look like.
Instead of buying a ready-made ring, we spent almost a year working with a Brazilian goldsmith to design one together. We wanted something delicate and timeless, using ethically sourced Brazilian gemstones.

The center stone is a natural Brazilian Paraíba tourmaline, and the ring was handmade in 18k yellow gold with natural diamonds. We chose the Paraíba because we fell in love with it, and I also liked that it came from Brazil.

I absolutely love my ring, but I'm curious about the cultural perspective in the US.

If you saw someone wearing this ring without any context, would you recognize it as an engagement ring? Or would you assume it was just a regular ring? Also, do you think most Americans would see it as elegant and minimalist, or simply too small for an engagement ring?

Thank you!

Ring Design Help Redesigned my wedding set

When my husband and I got married he got me a 10 carat color enhanced earth mined black diamond. It’s the most special thing I own 😭♥️ for our anniversary he paid for me to completely redesign and reset my diamond. The before are the last two photos. The ring as a solitaire was very top heavy and turned constantly. The double claw prongs were also a little cumbersome. The new setting is lower set, more surface area on the finger for less spinning, and single compass set claw prongs to show off more of the stone. The wedding band fits flush and has an asymmetrical scatter of white diamonds. I had only ever seen a design like this with 2-3 carat stones before but I wanted something a little more sculptural and unique but I think I’m questioning myself a little.

Question What type of wedding band would look good with my ring?

I have an elongated hexagon engagement ring that I’m ABSOLUTELY inlove with; however I’m having a really hard time deciding on what type of wedding band would look good with it.

I’ve looked into the V-Shaped bands & open V but am starting to wonder if I should stick to a timeless very simple band (but a bit thicker of a band than my engagement ring)? Thoughts?

Ring Design Help Upgrading my diamond, is this one too big?

We made 7 years and are upgrading my original solitaire diamond! I got a try on at home through with clarity and I am wondering if this is too large though? Is it too much? Should I go with a different shape? These are my current wedding bands and I don’t want to change them, so I’m looking to find something that works. I currently have a smaller size of this same style engagement ring, so I figured getting a larger round diamond wouldn’t be an issue. But now I’m wonder if it works? Help!

Ring Design Help setting question

hi, so i just got my engagement ring awhile ago but i’m not satisfied with the how it’s sitting. shouldn’t the stone be in the basket more? not looking like it’s floating? i don’t like that it looks like it’s floating and not “fully in” the basket setting. when i asked about dropping it but they said if i drop it lower it would have to be sitting flush and i’d have to change the setting. i didn’t want to do that since i like the hidden halo and the wedding band i want is not curved. any advice? it is a 3ct LGD for reference.

Ring Design Help CAD design advice for askew Marquise setting

Received this CAD from my jeweler, they are local to me. The centre stone will be a 1.5ct Marquise. I gave feedback that I don’t love the curve going on under the pavé (slide 3) and would like to soften it to follow the natural line coming from the angle of the stone.

I also felt the bezel ‘walls’ are looking super high in the CAD but jeweler said that CADs have extra metal that will be shaved down in the production so it won’t have such high walls. I’m nervous the bezel will surround the diamond too much so I wanted to explore claw prongs as well and they sent me a rough mockup of what that could look like (slide 4). I was thrown off by the addition of the branched band which they said was for extra support.

Now I’m unsure which direction to take. I have attached my inspiration board on the final slide and I’m conflicted about this half bezel vs the prongs. Even sort of regretting the pavé. My fav design I’ve seen online was this one from Holden, but I wanted the angle of the diamond to be NW-SE instead of the angle Holden has it at.

Was also thinking if we went the claw direction, V tips would look a bit nicer than the claws on the tips? Idk.

How does the initial CAD look? Would the centre stone still have some exposure after the final ‘shaved down’ produced version?

Question CAD Software suggestions?

Upvotes

Hello, I’m new to this. I wanted to ask if anyone could suggest software for me to use to design my own ring? The reason I ask is because the design I’m looking for is something that’s hard to describe and I’m a quick learner, so I could probably find a way to create something similar rather than trying to explain it to a jeweler immediately. I would also like to try out different designs before coming to a jeweler in wasting their time.

Is there a software that any of you would recommend? Is that possible, or is it something that I would need to go to a jeweler for?

Ring Design Help To pavé or not to pavé?

Thumbnail

That is the question.

I’m drawn to the pave but worried it looks cheap. 2ct radiant, cathedral, platinum. I liked the idea of smaller stones but have heard horror stories or loose stones. I’m an architect for my day job, so I work with my hands a bit.

If I don’t go pave I will probably go with a thicker plain band (2.5mm).

Cheers for your thoughts!

Ring Design Help The final push

It’s been a long design process, but we are finally at the simplicity I think makes the most amount of sense for her.

My biggest concern and where I need help is - will the butterfly be annoying when wearing daily? I don’t want her to not be able to close her hand… but the butterfly is really sentimental and there isn’t much better of a place to put it. I also really like how it contributes to a “cluster” like feeling that I was originally going for, but doesn’t overwhelm.

The main stone is attached in the next frame.

Thoughts?

I'm getting proposed to soon and me and my partner have been looking at rings together.

The engagement ring is not as important as the wedding rings to me, so we've been looking for some alternative options. Both arrived and I can't really decide!

Option 1: 14k Gold with Moissanite center stone

Option 2: 14k Gold with Lab Grown Diamond.

Picture 3 is both next to each other.

I do love the big Moissanite Ring, but I prefer the clarity of option 2. So I am very torn between those two (but leaning more towards 1)

Looking forward to honest opinions

Ring Design Help Proposing to my girlfriend!

Post image

I intend on proposing to my girlfriend in the next few months, and know very little about jewelry or rings. Looking for any advice on good businesses or things to look for. She has very slim fingers, wears pearls and silver jewelry. My budget is ideally between 3,500-4,500$. She likes simpler things. I know she wants a marquise cut and for the wedding band to follow the contour of the diamond like the one pictured below (a screenshot from her Pinterest). The diamond must be lab grown also. All advice is greatly appreciated thank you.

Ring Design Help Setting help

Hello! I have been working on my ring design but I am not quite getting to a point that I’m happy with it and I could use some help. I have a 3ct square old mine cushion cut diamond. This is where is am at right now with my jeweler but it isn’t really giving me the same vibe as my inspiration photo ( I know the stone in the inspo photo is much spreadier). I’ll also include the 3d printed model I got.

I’m not sure if maybe I should go for closed sides? I don’t love the little squares. Maybe a thicker band as well?

I appreciate any suggestions and advice! Thank you

Ring Design Help Help😭 I don’t think they’re designing what I want.

Hi all! This is the cad I received. I told them upon designing I wanted a 2.2 band. They said that from the original design I sent, it tapers to a 1.5 and that starting at a 2.2 would look funny. Which I’ll have the cad for that example below. What I don’t understand is… if the base is thicker, can’t they just make the tapered end… a little thicker? They want to make it look like a smooth transition towards my kite at the end so they’re saying it would throw off the top view to make it thicker. I did ask to change the thickness to a 1.8 for the overall ring though.

I’m also scraping the pave on the sides and wanna make the rest of the ring look like the 3rd picture while the top view of the second ring remains the same.

I’m stuck at this point and not sure what to do.

Question Big diamond craze comments making me overthink my ring?

Thumbnail

I got a custom ring and worked with a company that sources vintage and or sustainably/responsibly mined diamonds. After looking at a range of diamond sizes all in the “pear” shape realm, I landed on one that is 1.6 carats and has a sort of unique shield shape to it. I chose it over another slightly larger diamond because of its unique attributes. But now that I’ve had it for a while, everyone’s comments throw me off so many people are like “oh I love your ring but I want mine bigger”… these comments are coming from friends who are much more petite than me- this ring looks like 2-2.5 on their finger at least. Anyway, I know I shouldn’t care but now I’m overthinking my ring and how I can add larger diamonds to my wedding band to compensate. I’m sure others have found themselves in my shoes- just opening discussion I guess or source for advice? How do I embrace my ring, I do still think it’s beautiful but find myself wishing I got a bigger stone?

Question Finding the one

I live in northern alberta canada, and am rather limited on jewelry stores. My girlfriend is in love with a specific style and cut that is very hard to find if not custom made. We both agreed i would save some money on the ring and put it into our mortgage. Is there any stores or online that would have anything close? This is her absolute favourite so far.

Question Can I see everyone’s cool toned rings?

Looking for inspiration for cool tone rings and stacks! Silver/platinum looks best on me. I love the look of a champagne diamond, but I only ever see it paired with gold or other warm metals.
