I have a past time job that’s about 20 hours a week. My organization is hiring for a totally separate part-time (approximately 20 hours a week) role in a separate department.
Could I work both roles without becoming full time?

It’s a non profit that’s very budget conscious, so there‘s no way they’d let me do both if they would have to give me benefits.

I’m curious what other people would do in this situation.

I have a job interview today for a front office position at a dental office. I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant, but I’m not really showing yet, so someone meeting me for the first time probably wouldn’t know unless I told them.
Part of me feels weird not mentioning it because if I get hired, they’ll obviously find out eventually. I don’t want to start a new job feeling like I wasn’t upfront.
On the other hand, I asked ChatGPT about it, and it said not to bring it up during the interview because it’s not relevant to whether I can do the job, and that it’s generally better to discuss it after receiving an offer if I choose to.
Now I’m torn. I want to be honest, but I also don’t want to unintentionally hurt my chances if someone has unconscious bias.
If you were in my shoes, would you tell them during the interview, wait until after an offer, or not mention it until it naturally comes up? Especially interested in hearing from anyone who’s been pregnant while job hunting or anyone who hires employees.

Hello so to give some context , I applied for a Job early in the year and was rejected. I am interning at my place of employment ( i only go in twice a week) but I was told to reapply and I didn’t need to do the interview again.im basically just waiting to hear about my job offer ( waiting on the letter since I’m the candidate of choice).

The issue is I have two vacations planned through the year already, one that will take two days off of me during the week and the other probably three or four days .

When should I mention I need these days off? When I receive my offer letter or wait till after when I start. For context this will be a state government job

For the past several months, I’ve been informed that our new CFO, who came in with a lot of issues from his predecessor, is not allowing me to move to full-time. However, two weeks ago, I was finally told I could work regular part-time hours, meaning I can now work over 30 hours, with a maximum of 40 hours, and receive benefits. After being jerked around by HR for two weeks about signing up for benefits, I was finally able to enroll yesterday. Unfortunately, the cost of my benefits is over double that of others because “it’s prorated for 30 hours,” even though I will be working 40 hours most weeks.

In my first year, I brought in over $100,000 for the company through my work, in addition to handling tasks that were not paid for by clients. I’ve developed many new systems that were never requested when I started and have streamlined efficiency, making things significantly better for everyone else. Everyone in my direct office says they couldn’t do their jobs without me, and no one else could fill my role. It has taken me this long to develop these systems, and it hurts so much to feel that all my hard work over the past two years is unappreciated.

I need to see a doctor, but I can’t because I can’t get insurance. Right now, I’m sitting outside work, crying and not wanting to go in. I can’t afford to quit. I love this job, but the corporate environment is incredibly frustrating.

So I just got accepted with another company that I applied for their start date is August 17,2026.

They will send me on boarding procedure probably tomorrow.

So that will be 18 business days.

I really enjoy my time with my current office and has a good relationship with everyone.

My dilemma is do I inform them about my offer and so they can get a replacement or wait till on boarding and background check is done.

If I do the background check then the timeframe will be less than 2 weeks for the notice.

Long story short, I've worked for my father's construction company from 2022- to now as a cost accountant and office manager. This happened, it was real work, I made real money and a real difference in the business. My problem is I was exclusively paid under the table because A) it was my dad and B) I had an unplanned pregnancy and needed medicaid for my kiddo. I never made more than the limit for medicaid despite the income not being reported, but I never filed taxes for that income and the company is small enough that I wasn't listed as an official employee either, although everyone knew i worked there. My kiddo is a year old now, and I'm at the point in my career that I want to work a corporate job for better pay and insurance. I listed my role on my resume, had my initial interview, and have a follow up tomorrow, but it JUST occurred to me that I might not pass a background check for my experience because of the aforementioned details. Its also my only accounting experience outside of school, so I can't exactly leave it off my resume. If HR or a company calls, I know that whoever answers will verify my employment, but there is literally no paper trail to back me up outside of my work email.

Any advice? Should I let this dream job go now? Or should I try to explain at my follow up interview tomorrow (leaving out the part where my father is the co-owner?) Help 🥲

I've received a conditional job offer as an IT support desk analyst for a law firm, which is great, but with it being a law firm, they do very strict background checks.

I worked for my father's company in a full time official capacity between 2011-2019, but continued working on an infrequent ad hoc basis alongside other full time jobs and full time education between 2019-2024, so on my application/CV I have just put my dates as 2011-2024. There'll be no formal records of my work for them between 2019-2024.

Also some of my dates are approximated, I held a role between about 2009-2011 then started working for my father's company in about 2011.

Does anyone know if thos is this likely to cause me an issue and lead to my job offer being withdrawn? They use a third party company to do the work history and DBS checks

My mom works as a cook, and I've noticed that whenever she looks for a new job, it usually happens through agents, other cooks, apartment security, WhatsApp groups, or word of mouth.

One thing I've noticed is that there isn't really a single place where workers can see all the available jobs nearby or learn much about an employer's history before accepting a job.

I'm curious—have others here seen a similar experience? Whether you're an employer or know someone who works as a cook or maid, how does hiring or job searching usually happen in your area? What are the biggest frustrations?

Bit of background:

Family not dependent on me for money, will be graduating BTech in another month. I know Java, Javascript, have good projects in both and I have a project in DL as well so I am up skilled in AI.

Need advise, I am thinking if I don't get any job I will grind leetcode and opensource contributions for the next few months while applying simultaneously. LC is for cracking bigtech or any equivalent.

Do you think this would work, or should I join slow paying startup work toooo much and side by side try to prepare? Or should I do something completely different?

Hello community, I am in a tense situation right now. My role was dissolved 1 month back and I was let go by them on a “without cause” basis. Although I was applying for jobs beforehand, there was one that I applied to 4 days after I was let go, and in that application, I claimed to still be working at my previous company. I am accepting a job offer I got from that company, but it is contingent on a background check. I did not disclose that my role was dissolved 1 month back and have implied that I still work there in my conversations.

What should I do? I have been truthful about my work and experience shared with them. I am really looking forward to the role but concerned about this discrepancy. I am yet to fill the background check form and need guidance.

Should I reach out the HR or hiring manager to be transparent about this or just put actual dates on the background check and not say anything more?

I'm 21, in my 3rd year of a commerce degree, with a year gap after 12th standard. Because of that gap, I'll be a year or two "later" than the typical age for whatever path I pick — and that's been messing with my head more than it probably should.

I keep circling between several options (professional finance certifications, an MBA down the line, government job exams, maybe even trying to build something on my own) but instead of actually starting one, I keep comparing all of them in my head and never commit. Every time I think about starting, a voice says "you're already behind, what if this takes too long, what if you pick wrong."

I'm anxiously waiting on my drug test to come back from a potential employer. Problem is,my next door neighbor smokes A LOT of weed!!!! I can smell it when I'm sitting out on my balcony at night. I usually cover my nose when he smokes but I can still smell it!

My question is: Could his weed smoking mess up my drug test? Is contact high real? I never get high off the smell but could it have entered my body to the point of affecting my drug test?

I’m going to get straight to the point. I’m 14, disabled, and always in appointments. Problem is, I need a job. Are there any online jobs for minors?

The only jobs for minors I know of are baristas, waiters, cashiers, etc. But I’m always exhausted, barely come to school most days, get sick really easily, get sick in the heat and cold (unable to regulate my body temperature), have really shaky hands, have tics, pass out, black out, and can’t stand for long. I definitely missed some things there, but that’s what effects my physical ability to work the most.

When I ask this, I mean any company owned jobs, not entrepreneurship-based (I’m not sure how else to say that) jobs like art commissions.

In case you were wondering, no, neither me nor my family get any government support. I’m a skilled writer, editor (for writing, I always catch mistakes), artist, debater, and organizer.

I’ve interviewed with several of them a couple of weeks ago. Everything sounded on the up and up until they told me I would be using my own car with no kind of reimbursement for it.

That’s a major red flag. You should NEVER use your personal car for a W2 gig without some kind of reimbursement. The expenses for your vehicle are a shared cost for you and the business even when it is 100% commission. If you are earning them enough money to pay you $200,000 a year, even $100,000 a year they should be more than happy to spend $15-$20,000 on a used car for you to drive. It shouldn’t even be a question. With an aggressive pay plan of 10% that means you are bringing in $1m a year. $20,000 one time over, let’s say 5 year period for the car to last, is nothing. It’s $5000 a year to make $1,000,000.

I have an outside sales job now and I have a company vehicle and a credit card for car related expenses. I’m looking to make more money which is why I was looking but I basically told all of them I’m a very experienced sales person with a track record that shows I’m more than competent. I’m ok working on 100% commission. I’ve done it most of my life. But asking me to use my own car and pay for the gas and maintenance is so lol.

Right now I have my first ever sales job with a guaranteed salary but I see it as a plus not an expectation as a sales person.

Anyway I wanted to call them out to their faces but I knew it was pointless. If they don’t care that you are the putting 1000s of miles a month on your car and paying for the gas they aren’t committed to me. They are looking to rotate bodies (and cars) through the pipeline. I took it as an insult. Maybe someone does this and is successful and may think I’m wrong but from a principle standpoint it’s wrong in every way.

As an experienced sales person if you come across one of these jobs tread carefully. Your car would literally be your livelihood. If a company doesn’t respect that they don’t respect you.

For context I'm an automotive mechanic working on fleet cars. I'm currently at the highest tier of pay and only making $54k a year. At the moment I'm barely scraping by, and a pay bump would help a lot. With my level of experience and certifications I could easily be making $70k+ a year. I'm just hesitant to change employers for a few reasons:

• I'm currently paid hourly, and most prospective employers pay flat rate.

• I hate being a part of large teams and am not the best communicator. I'm autistic and struggle constantly with misunderstandings. At my current job I only need to talk to 4 people max.

• I don't currently need to speak or interact with customers. Most jobs would require that of me, along with trying to upsell. I cannot for the life of me sell anything.

• My current boss is genuinely amazing. I'm not the kind of person to like my managers but he's easily the best I've ever had. I'm worried that the superiors at a new job would be way worse.

• The benefits are good. The company offers a 6% 401k match, and the insurance is some of the best I've seen.

• I am transgender. I pass, and all my documentation is updated, but all it takes is one slip up and then everyone knows. Blue collar trades aren't generally very accepting places, and my current position is thankfully an exception.

• Even if I don't get outed, I'm still a woman trying to get a job as a mechanic. I expect to be low balled and passed over due to that. Not to mention the general culture of the industry if I do get a position.

• My current environment is very lax. I would 100% be expected to do more work wherever I end up. This isn't that important, but I have taken it into consideration.

• I don't have much savings and if I lose the new job it's over, I'll be homeless. This is my fault but the only way to get more savings would be to increase my income.

• I don't trust myself not to fuck it up and get fired. This is 100% an illogical fear, but my brain keeps telling me I'll mess up big time and get fired from any new job I get.

Honestly, I know that I should probably suck it up and start putting in applications. I'm really just asking if any of my fears are really justified, and seeing if anyone has any advice that I haven't thought of.

This is my first job interview. I was introduced to the idea of working here, as well as the head of HR, by my aunt who is fairly high up in the workplace. I definitely have my foot in the door more than I would have by applying on whatever job website, so things have gone a bit out of order.
Instead of applying, getting a call or email, and setting up an interview date- I’ve talked to HR, then set up an interview, then received a link for the application. I filled it out and emailed it but I’ve just received a message from HR asking me to print and bring a physical copy of the application to my interview, which is in about an hour.
I have no access to a printer at this time. Would it be deemed disrespectful or inappropriate to show up 15-20 minutes early and ask for one to fill out before my interview? Thanks.

I recently accepted a job at a bank and it’s contingent on employment and education verification. I pulled my employment verification report from theworknumber.com and it’s missing a lot of my employment history.

I changed my legal first and last name in 2024, and had started going by my *now* legal first name in 2020. I’m a little worried this contributed to some of the missing employment history but I’m not sure. I’m also missing some employment history from before my name change.

This is the 5th time in 2 years I was rejected from the same supervisor promotion. I've been at the same job for 4 and a half years doing the same entry level customer service bs work the whole time. I asked what more can I do, what more do they want to see from me - "oh just be more sure of yourself. More confident." Now, me taking days off once in a blue moon for my mental health was a main reason I didn't get it this time around. Taking as many days off as I did is not as reliable as I said I was. So I applied for a warehouse job through indeed which then took me to the “Addeco” website to apply. I filled out the information and few days later I received a call asking for how I will get to work, what my education level was and etc. After the phone call I received an email saying that my application has been withdrawn and if I wish to change contact etc .
