General New User Guide for r/Edmonton - Please read first
NEW USERS of r/Edmonton - kindly read this first
To post or comment in r/Edmonton, you need to meet the following criteria:
Accounts need to be a week old.
You need to have a verified email address.
You need to have a minimum amount of TEN (10) COMMENT karma from participating in OTHER SUBREDDITS than r/Edmonton.
Why? This helps keep bad actors away, like trolls and banned users. It also helps users new to reddit to have a chance to learn how to use reddit outside of r/Edmonton.
#IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED ALL THREE REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.
#How to verify your email for new users :
To verify your email on Reddit, either click the verification link in the email you received when creating your account or go to Settings > Account Settings and choose Update email address to resend the verification email. _Once you request it, open your email's inbox, find the verification email, and click the link inside to complete the process._
- On the web -
• Go to your account settings by clicking your profile icon and then selecting Settings.
• Click on Account Settings.
• Find the email address section. If you see an option to "resend verification email" or similar, click it.
• Alternatively, you can navigate directly to reddit.com/prefs/update/ to find the email settings.
-- On the app --
• Tap your profile icon.
• Go to Settings.
• Select Account Settings.
• Tap Update email address.
• Tap the button to Resend verification email.
#What is the difference between POST karma and COMMENT karma?
Post karma is earned when users upvote the original submissions (links, images, text posts) you create, reflecting your ability to share engaging content.
_Comment karma is earned when your replies to others' posts are upvoted, showing your active participation and contribution to discussions. Both are totaled for your profile but often used separately to satisfy subreddit restrictions._
POST KARMA:
Gained from creating threads or posting links. It indicates a good ability to initiate conversations.
COMMENT KARMA:
Gained from replying to posts or other comments. It indicates active participation in community dialogue.
Key Differences: Post karma rewards content creation, while comment karma rewards interaction.
#Some subreddits (like r/edmonton) require specific thresholds of either type (or both) to prevent spam, often looking at post, comment, or combined totals for restrictions.
Both types of karma are not a 1:1 ratio with upvotes; instead, they represent a weighted score from community upvotes, reduced by downvotes.
(In order to post in r/Edmonton - you need to do THREE things:)
your account must be a WEEK old (7 days)
- you need to have TEN (10) COMMENT karma
- you need to have a verified email address
ONCE AGAIN, IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED THESE THREE (3) REQUIREMENTS YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.

General As a Calgarian, I just wanted to let you guys know that I've travelled all around the world and almost always, people have heard of Edmonton but never heard of Calgary.
Not sure why. Calgary has a bigger population, the stampede, closer to Banff national park. But it's Edmonton people know about. Thought you guys would want to know that.

So, here are 2 photos of what construction of the valley Line West looks like from 102 Street station, and it seems like they are digging up the ground to place more tracks, and as you can see the frames for the tracks.

Photo/Video Please signal and look before you change lanes
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
They came into my lane like I wasn’t even there. No indication they wanted to change lanes besides just doing so. It was a close call and thankfully I managed to brake in time and avoided them hitting my car.
Edit: Guys, that light is a brake like and not a signal. If you look up Toyota RAV4 5th gen brake lights, you’ll see the same thing. See this link: https://www.reddit.com/r/regularcarreviews/s/TR0OGsKydF
You can see the top brake light is also on and then turns off in my video.

Events Heritage Festival 2026 menu is out!
The menu and map for this year's Heritage Festival has been published on their website. It's happening on August 1-3 at Hawreluk Park:
It's handy to have in advance so you can plan your strategy 😁 and maybe find interesting things you might otherwise have missed. I'm sad to see that apparently the Netherlands is not participating this year. I always made sure to keep space for their delightful poffertjes.
And I see four different booths offering cevapi/chevapi. Whose were best last year?
I won't even ask who has the best jollof. 💣
And don't forget to donate to the Food Bank while you're there!

Thank you / Appreciation Dear Stranger outside The Gardens tonight
Dear stranger who said they really liked my haircut while I was leaving River City Revival House and walking past The Gardens.
I have been having a terrible week and feeling very lonely, lots of trouble with my self worth. As someone who who doesn't get compliments very often, you simply saying you thought my haircut was amazing really made me feel happy in the moment and got me through a tough couple of minutes.
I really appreciate you and I hope I never forget this interaction.
Slim chance you ever see this, but your haircut looked amazing too and you had a really nice outfit. Keep it up!
Shout out to Gz2Gentz barbershop for the sick skin fade.

Question Cat boarding
Hello cat parents!
Does anyone have a good recommendation of a cat boarding business within and/or around the city?
Things that would be preferable:
-Cats only OR one where you cannot hear dogs at all.
- A window in the individual Kennel
-$25 per night or less.
Play area optional.
Would even consider further outside of the city if they had a window in the individual kennel.
We have some options…but looking for recommendations from others who’ve had good experiences! Thanks for your time :)

Restaurants/Food Best sandwich in Edmonton
Seeing all the talk about restaurants closing has me thinking about my favorite small chain here in town, and how I need more people to know about it to ensure it lives on for future generations.
Farrow has four locations in the city, and the best dang sandwich I have ever had in my entire life. The Grick Middle. (Also known as, “The Grick”)
Crispy bacon. Delectable tomato jam (I didn’t even realize tomato jam was a thing before this). Fresh Arugala. The perfect amount of cheese. Rosemary aioli I would actually write home about. The most perfectly cooked egg you will ever have in your life. All on top of some of the best bread I have ever seen used for a sandwich in my life. and the best part? Under ten bucks baybeeee
They also have other sandwiches, some of which are vegetarian for those of that persuasion, but I’ve never bothered to try them. My heart belongs to The Grick alone.
They also have really good cronuts (donuts with croissant dough), and a different specialty flavor for those every month. This month is blueberry lime cheese cake, and both my husband and I both found it to be phenomenal. These ones are a bit pricier than your typical donut (still under five bucks), but if you think of them as its own dessert rather than something in the same category as the monstrosity that has become of Tim’s donuts, then it’s quality and price make more sense.
I have literally no affiliation to Farrow, I just need more people to know they exist and to try them out. If this chain goes under, I will genuinely move out of Edmonton, I’m not joking.
Edit: to everyone mentioning their favorite sandwich shops in town, thank you. While I shall remain a humble soldier in The Grick Army, I do appreciate getting recommendations of other spots to try out when my husband gets tired of me begging to go to Farrow
