My grandfather went to Duquesne in the late 50s and we both had to take a logic course but he said it wasn’t called logic then. If anyone has potential ideas it would be a great help. He said he hasn’t been able to think of it for years.

I'm back at it again this time to ask about the Western part of the city.

If anyone has experience living in Crafton/the Western side and taking a bus to campus/downtown:

What is the commute like from Crafton?
Seems like there are a number of bus lines to choose from, which would you say is the most reliable and/or less lengthy ride? Least reliable and/or longest ride?
How are the buses at rush hours? Crowded? Longer commutes than estimated?
Any hidden pros/cons to living in Crafton/the West despite the majority of my daily activities being downtown? Am I crazy for looking this far out?

Would you recommend the Western side of the city for apartments for a student relying on public transportation or should I prioritize looking elsewhere?

I don't mind long commutes (to a point) but I do need reliability and consistency so I'm trying to get a sense of that by getting as much on the ground info as I can. Any help is appreciated!

Hi all! I'm an incoming grad student without a car virtually apartment hunting from out of state.

I'm currently entertaining the idea of signing with a place out in Carrick bordering Brentwood with the 51/51L bus as the only transit to downtown, about 51 minutes per the Transit App. Another place that I am considering is in Dormont very close to the Red Line (though I like this place a little less despite it being closer). But the Dormont commute is not that much better from what I can tell, hitting about 45min per the Transit App.
Every other listing so far has been a bust or does not meet my criteria- and I've been searching since April! You can imagine my desperation.

I am feeling so conflicted because I like the Carrick apartment! It's clean and not years old, the rent is exactly what I can afford (which has been ridiculously hard to find), the neighborhood has some nearby groceries/convenience stores that are close to my cultural background, it seems like a cozy quiet spot, and I honestly don't mind long commutes. Long commutes are fine BUT inconsistency, uncertainty, and the high chance of being late are not.

I have been trying to research this bus line specifically and the Red Line but I keep getting mixed reviews about whether the 51 and 51L are consistent with their lateness/on-timeness and whether the Red Line is always delayed/under construction/using shuttles.

TLDR: Is the ~51min commute on the 51/51L from Carrick/Brentwood to campus worth it to live in a decent apartment at a good affordable rent?
Or will the chaos of the buses and commute cause me a greater headache and make me wish I paid more/lowered my living standards to be closer to campus?
Are the buses consistently late/early or is it a coin toss?
Are the 51/51L commute times typically longer/unreliably variable?
Is it a bad idea to rely on the 51 buses as my only transportation to downtown aside from infrequent rideshares/carpooling? If I go with Dormont, is it a bad idea to rely solely on the Red Line?
Is the Red Line more overall reliable than the bus routes?
Should I avoid this entirely by only focusing on listings in the east, even if they don't meet my criteria?

I am a 42-year old woman moving to Pittsburgh this fall to begin a graduate program at Duquesne University. This has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I finally decided to take the leap.

I will be living on a limited budget and I will not have a car, so I would greatly appreciate advice on: • Safe neighborhoods • Affordable apartments or housing options • Public transportation • Cost of living • Anything you wish you had known before moving to Pittsburgh Starting over at 42 feels both exciting and intimidating, but I believe it is never too late to pursue a dream.

Got accepted into duq for law school. Not entirely sure if I’m attending, but visiting the city and some apartments soon just to get an idea. What are some good areas where grad students live (preferably law students, but doesn’t matter a whole lot)? I’ve heard of shadyside and squirrel hill, I liked some apartments in the latter, but wasn’t really liking anything in shadyside. I also love city living and being in downtown, but wasn’t sure if any students lived there? I’ve also heard there aren’t any grocery stores downtown which is a bummer, but is driving to different neighborhoods doable for that?

I am going to be a freshman. What kind of school supplies will I need? Like is it better to get a computer or ipad or both. should i have notebooks?

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming Second Degree BSN student at Duquesne for the Fall and I’m looking for 1–2 female roommate(s) for off-campus housing near Duquesne. I have a few places in mind that are near campus.

Also, if anyone is looking for a roomie and already has a place please HMU! I’m hoping to find a safe, clean, and reasonably priced place, ideally furnished, with a manageable commute to campus. My budget is around $700–800/month including utilities.
