This neighborhood is usually very clean. One really good thing, almost zero cigarette butts. But there's always a little something from the handful of morons that dgaf.

Someone released confetti at my favorite park in Seattle. Picked up over 75 pieces of mylar confetti and streamers. I’m sure I’ll find pieces for weeks.

The youth spends hours on the internet criticizing the system and posting patriotic statuses, completely confusing this digital noise with actual nation building.

While spreading digital awareness is an important tool, it becomes entirely hollow if it is not backed by physical execution. The ground reality of our public spaces is deteriorating rapidly, and no amount of social media outrage or 'likes' can fix a choked drain or a garbage filled street.

If we redirected just 10% of the energy we spend arguing online toward taking absolute ownership of our immediate physical surroundings, the transformation in this country would be unstoppable.

It is time we stop being a society of keyboard warriors. Step out of your screens and face the reality of the ground you walk on.

With illegal dumping sites and fly tipping on the rise, I'm just curious how everyone feels about trying to take stuff to the tip/get rid of anything that isn't normal rubbish? Like if it was less hassle to get rid of stuff surely these problems wouldn't exist? Am i missing something? Are you happy with how your council does it? Definitely not bashing bin collectors more the system itself.

Can anyone recommend a good heavy duty litter loop/hoop/bag holder, please?

I clean up rubbish/litter in Ireland, and it's often very windy, which makes holding a bag open while using a grabber in the other quite difficult

My partner bought me a bag loop a few years ago, but unfortunately the bag would just slip out as soon as any kind of weight built up, and then it broke entirely. I don't want to buy multiple loops just to throw them away again

I guess I didn’t take a picture 🤦‍♀️but styrofoam - Dart Co takes it back and a local electronics hazmat near by. Put the scrap metal at the curb! I do my best to separate and dispose of properly.

While educating the masses and spreading civic awareness through strong dialogue is a crucial pillar of nation-building, there are days when words must take a back seat to pure execution.

Today’s drive was about exactly that. In this video, there are no speeches or appeals just the raw, unglamorous reality of stepping into the dirt, cleaning up the mess left by others, and taking absolute ownership of our public spaces.

A true civic movement requires both a strong voice to awaken the people and willing hands to do the heavy lifting on the ground. When society ignores its responsibilities, your continuous, silent action can serve as the ultimate wake up call. We must lead by example in every way possible.

How do you gals and guys deal with frustration? For context I’ve been cleaning this block daily for maybe the pass three weeks everyday there is more trash but never like this. As seen in the photos there is also another pile further up mostly clothes school supplies and food items. I know it will never be perfect but come on i thought some progress was being made i’m probably going to tackle it later. Last photo was all the cigarette butts i collected in a 30 minute dog walk

I recently started plogging and am frustrated by the garbage I find on roadways, since it's hard to pick up with a spear. Don't like how plasticky other grabber arms are - tongs like this would be perfect. Anyone know? Or something similar you could recommend?

That as a cool walk yesterday.
I live near the beach, so every now and then, when we go to the beach with our dogs (by car),
I try to find time to run home and pick some litter along the way or i bring a small buggy with 2 bins which i push forward while i walk and try to pick as much litter as possible.
This has become a habit of mine, but as a result, I always walk/run the same route.
Lately i have been walking around with the plan of doing a longer walk, in some days during the year and yesterday i decided to simply start and don't overthink it too much.
So i took a map, and let a program create a route (along cycle paths) from the coast where i always start, to the other side of the Netherlands, the German border.
The first part was more or less the same route i normally would walk/run, but it passed below my town and because of that, it even touched upon paths that i had never walked before.
Yesterday I started, and i decided to 'just pick litter while walking' not trying to pick everything, so i could keep my pace. And i also decided to make some short video's while walking, if i would see something that might be interesting.

And i must say, i loved it!
It was so much different than simple walking like i normally do, i was much more enjoying the landscape, i had much more eye for my surrounding, i even had some very nice conversations with several people because i was filming and people were interested of what i was doing.

The downside is that my walking average was very slow. I stopped a lot and my speed dropped, but that is okay, i'm not in a hurry and if that means 15 or 20 walks instead of 10-15, i don't mind.
Yesterday i walked the blue line (every piece of litter is a dot) and then i stopped this walk and walked back up to my home (the green dots).
Some other day i will start at the end of the blue line again and do part 2.
Oh, and since i register all m litter, i still have to tag the litter, so in the end i can also tell what i found, top-10's etc.
Funny detail, the bit of blue line that is missing: That is the only part where i couldn't find any litter to pick up, not even a cigarette butt!

Had a bit of a nightmare last week when someone nicked our wheelie bin right after collection day. I walked outside to grab it, and it was gone.

After a quick wander down the street, I spotted it and it was sitting smugly in number 32 front porch, pretending to be theirs. Now, we have some serious 'binfluencers' on this road (not number 32 - renters!) bou know the type: people who pressure-wash their bins every week and have them perfectly lined up by 00:01 AM sharp on collection day, blue bins, green bins, red bins, food waste bins etc etc . I honestly expected a higher standard of community from the local bin elite, but it turns out they aren't above a bit of casual piracy and turned a blind eye to this theft.

I walked straight over - grabbed the handle, and dragged it right back home where it belongs. But the whole thing has left me proper paranoid and left with some serious Binanxiety for next Thursday.

Look, I never wanted to be \*that\* person. I used to have a communal bin and would just dump anything in it and I wasn’t ready for this new responsibility since moving house recently, the neighborhood bin politics have basically pressured me into it and went down a deep internet shopping rabbit hole looking at ways to stop people taking it again. I genuinely considered going all out with quirky floral vinyl or faux wooden wraps but my wife told me I wasn’t allowed so i just panicked and went for the classic, massive, passive-aggressive white numbers.

Honestly, the wheelie bin accessory market is pretty rubbish anyway - we need more accessories and customisable features. There’s literally no bin tech out there . For anyone else who has been forced into this life by a dodgy neighbour or bad bin experience generally what finally pushed you to start putting numbers on your bin? Keen to hear from floral wrap owners as well…how did you position and sell this in with the other half. Is there any bin tech out there that is genuinely game changing and I’ve overlooked…

I've been detrashing a very very long time.

I used to be angry.

Now I just want a cleaner neighborhood for everybody. Recently I felt myself resenting a business that doesn't take care of the property it's on. Then a few weeks ago, I decided I don't care. Who knows what they're dealing with. If I can help them succeed by cleaning up, that's good for anyone who works there and if the owners do well, that's better for the neighborhood than of they fail and it gets boarded up.

Just wanted to hear your feelings. I find litter picking super relaxing now. But it took me a very long time to get here.

I think the size of the problem is so enormous there's no other way to approach it.

16 people helped get NW Radial Highway and Hamilton in shape. Lots of car parts, clothes and even a steak knife. We also found a clear plastic brief case that is given to those leaving jail. Lots of honks and waves from the busy traffic driving by. The volunteers of The Blue Bucket Project in Omaha Did an awesome job!
