OFFICIAL Sub Discussion New Rules

Subject to discussion before implementation

1) First and foremost, ban all of the repetitive victim posting

"Why is Dark Souls 2 so hated?" just devolves into the same thing - everyone commenting in agreement and performative victimizing. It's a video game, not everyone is going to like exactly what you like. There's no real discussion to be had there, and we seemingly have them here more than the other main subreddits. It's just becoming tiring.

2) Ban engagement-bait posts

The best example of this is someone posting a random, unrelated screenshot or artwork of Dark Souls 2 with the title of "What's your favorite sword in the game?" - then proceeding to not at all join in the discussion. It just serves to farm karma while putting in zero effort, not crediting the artist they took the art from, and not participating in their own thread. If you want to discuss something, make a text post and actually discuss.

3) Ban trouble makers at the mods' discretion

This is a spicy one because it can easily be mishandled by the wrong mod team. We all know Reddit mods are pretty garbage overall, but I'd like to think I'm a bit different since I'm here for Souls and couldn't give a shit less about seeming professional or having any semblance of "power" (it's Reddit, lmao).

This essentially means if you're posting within the guidelines (i.e - posting about Dark Souls 2) but you're making your post to simply stir shit, rile people up constantly, and put down others... then you should expect a ban.

I'm obviously not going to name names, but we all know a couple of usernames who, whenever there's random drama, we know they're going to be involved. These are the users I'm talking about

EDIT (this includes the "Slander posts" that you guys keep commenting about, but I will also explicitly say that yes, this does include the lame "Ds3 is grayslop hurr hurr" posts that just seek to rile people up for no reason)

Finally, a question to you all: How do we make this subreddit better?

That's it, that's the most important thing in this entire post. The game has been released for 12 years and the subreddit has kind of devolved into the same thing for the last decade at this point. Are there any ideas you all have, rules I should change, things I can do differently to make this place more enjoyable and less of the same, repetitive drivel?

Discussion Remote crash vulnerability

Hello folks, Radai here. I am a modder and reverse engineer, my main focus is Dark Souls 2. I am the author of DebugManager and other modding tools for the game.

The 31st of December 2025 I was sent a very worrying Twitch clip, showing messages appearing on the game screen. These messages were directly addressing the streamer, someone had found a way to send custom messages to whoever they wanted. When I was this, I immediately knew it was serious.

The next day I spent the whole evening testing what can be done with this, and I found out it's possible to format the message in such a way that the receiver game crashes. I reported this to Yui, author of Blue Acolyte, immediately. We kept this a secret until she made a patch for it, and now it's ready. It's recommended for all of those that want to play online to download Blue Acolyte.

Here's also a post from Yui describing the issue in more detail.

Also mods, if you see this, please pin. It needs to remain visible.

Discussion Poor guy's 😅they were indeed riding some kind of dragons

Although they're called dragon rider's we fought without them riding any dragon but apparently they actually were supposed to mount them on fights but the developer cut the dragon or beast because according to him they were hard and even without the dragon they looked imposing but man I wish they kept these because they look cool.

What's even more interesting the dragon was actually a boss fight without the big knight they were called the wyrm dragon the boss area was actually in the same location is the red dragon before the dragon slayer boss fight.

Ultimately the idea was not abandoned because in elden ring they made it into the dragonic Sentinels so at least we now had an idea what were they boss fight looked and felt.

Meme Dark souls 2 is like a 50 hour LSD trip

It starts in a forest and then you meet some ladies laughing at you that says you will lose your souls. Fast forward and and you're in huntsmans copse and you meet some skeleton on a bandwagon in a narrow hallway. Yeah and then you gotta bear seek seek lest. And then of course the funny elevator ride to Iron keep. And then there is this hobo king Vendrick in a dark room you gotta fight. Well that's what i wanted to share.

Discussion Ds2 boss tierlist

Post image
30 Upvotes

Just finished my replay. Amazing game tbh, way better than ds1 imo.

I used the crypt black sword most of my run, and eventually went with the demon great hammer. I ended up having an easy time with a lot of these bosses so I tried to rank based on move set, how fun they are to face when they are supposed to be fought etc.

Dislike- bosses I thought were terrible and not fun, aswell as having bad designs.

Meh- bosses I thought were fine but didn’t care for. Designs that were just meh.

Okay- bosses that were kinda fun. Didn’t have a great time with em but were good enough. Designs that were actually kinda cool.

Solid- bosses I actually enjoyed. Designs I liked.

Good- bosses I liked a lot and have mainly positive thoughts on. Designs I thought were very cool

Great- bosses I had a great time with and have very minor issues with. Great designs aswell

Amazing- bosses I personally had the most fun with and my fav designs.

Discussion Did the giants win the war against Drangleic?

• Upvotes

While it may sound as an obvious no at first since the giants were driven back and their lord captured and imprisoned for life under the fort, the giants did succeed in their objective of destroying Drangleic
and getting their revenge (even though they were eventually driven back or retreated across the sea back to their homeland) so I’m interested in what you guys think

Discussion The best DS2 mod (in my opinion)

(Sorry if the tag isn't the right one)

So, I recently got a copy of DS2: SotFS for my PC.

Since I’d already beaten the game a few times, I decided to look for some mods, and I found this one—which I think is fucking amazing:

Basically, the mod lets you power-stance *any* weapon; for example, you can mix a dagger with an ultra greatsword—it’s so much fun.

It works like this: the weapon in your main hand determines the moveset (if you’re holding a dagger, you get the dual-dagger moveset), which allows for some seriously broken weapon combinations. From the little bit of testing I’ve done, some of my favorites are "Ultra Greatsword + Heide Knight Sword" and "Ultra Greatsword + Rapier."

Both setups offer a really fast moveset, so the Ultra Greatsword's DPS skyrockets.

If anyone wants to try a fun new playthrough of DS2: SotFS, I 10,000% recommend this mod.

What are your favorite mods?

Help what parry has the fastest startup? i want my reaction parries back

I hate the predictive parry nonesense for everything they did after ds1, and im currently working my way through iron keep on a dagger run. is there a weapon, any weapon, with a parry startup fast enough that i dont have to guess which attack the alonne knights are going to use before i press parry? currently the only one i can parry on reaction is the slow thrust with the buckler, anything else it seems like if the animation already started the parry wont start up fast enough. ive seen talk about the monestary scimitar, but it looks like it was nerfed at one point but i saw people talking about it being reverted at another point but im not yet at aldias keep so i cant test it myself

Question How come split damage doesn't seem to be a problem in this game?

As I understand it split damage is generally a detriment in the other souls games because every damage type has to go through it's own layer of damage reduction but In this game I've seen people saying that mixing damage types is fine. Is it simply because elemental damage reduction is percent based?

Discussion Just beat my first boss- Dragonrider!

I heard ppl say he is not supposed to be the first boss but he's the only one i found. beat him to death with a club and got him to 20% numerous times and saw a tip online to stick close to his sheild, easily beat him after that with some dodges and the small platform wasn't much of a deal ngl. got around it. only problem was those long combos he gains when he gets low on health. fun game so far, 100% harder than dsr at the start with he controls being so different+ took ages to get the first boss lol. idk why ppl slander this game so far

Lore The opening cinematic suggests the BOTC is from the future.

Perhaps you've seen it, maybe in a dream. A murky, forgotten land. A place where souls may mend your ailing mind. You will lose everything... ... once Branded. The symbol of the curse. An augur of darkness. Your past. Your future. Your very light. None will have meaning, and you won't even care. By then, you'll be something other than human. A thing that feeds on souls. A Hollow. Long ago, in a walled off land, far to the north, a great king built a great kingdom. I believe they called it Drangleic. Perhaps you're familiar. No, how could you be. But one day, you will stand before its decrepit gate. Without really knowing why... Like a moth drawn to a flame. Your wings will burn in anguish. Time after time. For that is your fate. The fate of the cursed.

The altar in Things Betwixt likely functions like the Shrine of Winter and the other two DLC shrines that take you to other eras/geographical locations.

I think that everything before the whirlpool is in the future. The old woman you speak to, the past you forget, the decrepit gate of Drangleic, etc.

The altar is in their back yard and they ask you "you spoke to that kind old dear, didn't you?", which seems like the old women are aware that people are being directed to the decrepit gate and pulled to Drangleic. They sort of say as much when they mention "they all end up here, the ones like you".

When you wake up at the altar it's all wet and you're still dripping from the whirlpool.
