This is the first time I grow flowers. I’ve been having a time making little arrangements to put around my home.

USDA zone 5a here, having a slow growing type of season.

I am a newbie gardener in Maine. We moved to a new home last September and I was dedicated in setting up a garden, especially with so many deer around. People think I'm crazy for using half the space for cut flowers but they bring me SO MUCH JOY. My first flowers to harvest have been snapdragons, most everything else I harvested from around the yard and edge of the woods.

Next up to bloom are Zinnias, Dahlias, and Sunflowers!

I started volunteering at a nonprofit flower farm, and get paid in flowers! This is my most recent bouquet. I think many stems would benefit from being shorter and I will probably cut them after I enjoy the arrangement for a few days.

Any ID on the dark seed pods? Gosh darn they are just so inspiring

One of my zinnias has these enormous, layered blooms, but the rest are nothing like it. The others look healthy, but nowhere near as big. I have no idea why that one plant is so big, they are all grown from the same seeds!

Hi! I am getting married at the end of next June and am exploring the idea of growing my own flowers for the day. I need a lot of flowers for bud vases and decorations. I was going to go the faux flower route but wanted to explore this opportunity first. I’m somewhere between beginner and intermediate for garden growing, but have never grown cut flowers before.

I think my biggest challenge is that our wedding is at the end of June, which isn’t far into the start of our growing season here in zone 5a. I would need to start the flowers indoors, then transfer them into the ground outside at the beginning of June to finish them off. I do have some space to start flowers indoors but I don’t have a whole greenhouse or anything like that.

I am coming to this group for any considerations in doing this. Is it doable to grow flowers to be ready for the end of June in this zone? What kinds of flowers and greenery would be best for this scenario? How can I properly grow them to make sure they’re good flowers? Any thoughts of considerations would be appreciated!
