If I wanted to make a custom Manster, what male dolls are out there that are relative in size to mansters or the ghouls? I really want to make a custom Manny because I sure nuff am not paying minimum 300 for a SDCC doll, even if I had the funds to be able to.
I would also love to make custom dolls for What We Do in the Shadows, too.

Like so many people here, I didn't like Blaze's puffy skirt. It didn't deter me from getting the doll, because I love her face and hair, and even her shoes lava thing! I have plans for her. So I knew that as soon as I got her, I'd tear her skirt to pieces. Respectfully š
And she arrived today.
SO! First I analysed the skirt's structure. The outer layer is a synthetic leather imitation on top of a jersey (the fabric is made that way). The lining is a regular old polyester fabric, a bit on the thick side for lining. And between the two, there is some rolled mesh that maintains the puffy structure beyond the cut itself. (See pictures 1 & 2)
Side note: my copy has a sort of glue stain on one side (See picture 3). I think the faux leather is a bit fragile, and mine had a small tear that they decided to fix rather than replacing the whole skirt. It makes sense cost-wise, and I don't mind cuz it's play line and I never intended to keep it as it anyway. But I find it's worth noting. Same with the chain, one link was slightly open and escaped from the threads holding it in place. I'll probably reuse them elsewhere anyway.
Back to topic. I wanted to see what the skirt looks like without the puff. For starters, I cut off the seam at the bottom of the skirt to separate the lining from the faux-leather. Then I removed the mesh. The skirt still has wrinkles, I'll wet her to hopefully remove them, or sew them flat when/if I make the hem. But I don't think I will keep that part, at least not entirely. (See picture 4)
My conclusion: I think the skirt can be transformed pretty easily into something really cool. The top part (belt and waist piece with side pockets) is convenient to use as a base. I think pleats and/or panels would look good on the bottom part, but I'd also like to try a muslin, depending on what fabrics I have in stock.
I hope this will be helpful to whoever was wondering what to do with that skirt š I'll probably update in comments, so feel free to ask any questions you might have.

There's a project I want to do with a MH doll that would involve shrinking the doll head, and while I know a wig or wefts is the smarter option I'm curious about the idea of rerooting it. I know that warming the head + using a tool to make the holes temporarily bigger is the way to make it actually possible, but I'm worried about how I'll do stuff like the hairlines and partlines when the space between them is now so much smaller. I'm not having luck finding more in-depth tutorials on this, so are there any tips anyone who's done this can give?

Kitten Catfe hybrid on an Equestria Girls Sweetie Belle body~
Anthro dolls are surprisingly hard to find, so sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands when you want a new one haha.
This doll started as a random idea after I learned that Kitten Catfe was supposed to get a line of 1/6 fashion dolls, but it was sadly canceled.
She reminds me a bit of French Kitty~

Unsure if anyone else here knows or is going to Otakon this year in a few weeks, but there is a doll customization contest!
https://otakon.com/2026dollhouse/
Theme is high fantasy! It leaves it open to any fantasy and it's a-ok if you bring something you already have that fits the theme. By showing up you can help show doll activities are a great addition to the convention. Hope to see some of you there!
No meetup tag so I put help, help the doll community by bringing a doll if you are going to Otakon ~ cheers!

Some may have seen other post Iāve made about this custom, because Iāve had a lot of questions but this is the first official update on how itās going !! Dress was HELL to makeš I tried finding a pattern for a similar dress but i probably didnāt look hard enough because I couldnāt find anything. Patterned and sewn by me(as you can probably tellš). The top is only kinda loose because it wasnāt fully lied but it also is loose due to me messing up the measurements. The fabric I use was truly the worst experience of my life. Itās a satin from Walmart because for some reason I couldnāt find a pink satin anywhere else in person. But it frayed like hell and I donāt have fray check so I resorted to melting the edges with a lighter which kinda worked.
The top was the hardest part. I wanted to have a hem around it but due to the fabric and size of the top, it wouldnāt have worked. So I resorted to sewing 2 pieces together, flipping it inside out, then top stitching over it. Attaching it was really tricky.
I think next time I make doll clothes I want to (A), choose a GOOD fabric for mini clothes. (B), invest in a mini iron. And (C), Plan everything out A LOT more than I did for this dress.
Despite the struggle, I think it turned out pretty good!! You can probably tell that the dress isnāt form fitted and that is because when I sewed on the zipper, I didnāt sew close enough to the teeth making it too big, I later went in and sewed closer to the teeth of the zipper around the waist. I honestly donāt think itās too noticeable!!
If you have any resources tutorials/guides on making dolls clothes feel free to share!! Or if you have any advice in general for the future that is very much appreciated :)

Does MSC not do well in humid environments? Seems like I remember Dollightful mentioning something about that, but I wanted to ask. Itās really humid where I live right now and Iām wondering if maybe thatās messing with my project?

Iām starting a project soon to customize a barbie into my OC and I want to change the skin color with acrylic paint. Would it work to use mr super clear as a primer on the body (after sanding) or would I need something else to prime the paint? Or would it be fine to just seal it with MSC after painting? Cause in the doll customizing youtube videos ive seen people use MSC on the face before repainting it, so would the same apply if I want to paint the whole body with acrylic paint?

I got many dolls I'm turning into customs as heavy TLC'ed ones, so this fearleader Toralei wasn't an exception. Unfortunately, she had two holes in her head (nose and brow), so giving her piercing pieces was inevitable. Not like I don't like it, it just adds some work since metal pieces should be coated with varnish carefully so they won't have a reaction with vinyl later.
As a nod to her G1 doll she also got her iconic face "mark", but I decided to be creative with stripes and changed it to leopard spots!
More photos I'm going to post at my instagram chiroptera.dolls ā¤ļø

Hi! I really want to start customizing dolls and my first idea is susie from deltarune, and for the base i was thinking of g3 catty core doll since i hc susie as fat/plus size. But i am afraid of rerooting+ cant get doll hair in Turkey, so i want to dye Cattys hair. What paints would be the best? Also what is the best paint for bodies? Thank you so much!

I have a large-scale doll with long, beautiful legs, and I was wondering if it could be modified to be articulated at the knee like a BJD. Has anyone done this type of modification? Any advice?

Haven't done a faceup in a while due too not really wanting to use MSC do to weather issues (as well as it being toxic) however when I found out I could use Liquitex Matte Medium with an airbrush I really wanted to try it out.
After some trial and error I finally got it to work properly. Some notes about it. It seems to give similar tooth to MSC at least from my observations however I did run into some issues with the sealent scratching off and lifting so I'm probably gonna have to let the sealent cure more before starting. I may have sprayed a little too heavy as well so I'm gonna have to do more faceups to really get my process down. The final coat is Vallejo Matte Varnish.
As for the doll, I wanted to redo one of my earlier works (this is a new account btw if anyone recognizes my work, I wanted to make a separate account just for art) with my improved skills. I'm really happy with how she turned out however I did forget to color the whites of the eyes more so it's a little dull.
This new spraying method is so quick and easy for me I can do faceups a lot easier now. I don't have to worry about toxic fumes either (I still wear my respirator while spraying however since I'm using an airbrush). I managed to finish her over two days so hopefully I'll post more next week.
Sorry for the long write up, I'm just excited to be doing art again :).

I live in Chicago where the AQI the last week has been pretty bad due to wildfires from Canada blowing smoke south. If I spray MSC to prep for a face up today (AQI 126) will I trap nastiness in the sealant/will there be any effect on the face up? Does anyone have any experience with this? Sorry if I'm being too paranoid š
