Discussion BIG BOOMS IN SKY?
Whatever could it be Marge?
r/corvallis • u/sparkchaser • Apr 18 '26
We're way overdue for the next Scovallis so let's fix that.
For those that haven't heard of Scovallis, it's a chance for spicy food loving Corvallisites to get together at a local restaurant and eat spicy food.
If that sounds like something you'd be interested in, then we'd love to see you there.
IIRC, we've done this three times previously: Andy's Mexican (RIP), Evergreen Indian Restaurant, and Tarn Tip.
So, let's figure out when we want to do this and where we want to go.
I'm generally free on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

If you report a post, please include as much information as possible. For instance, if you report a post and offer a solution it would be helpful if you provided a link to said proposed solution.
Reports are anonymous which means that I cannot reach out to request clarifying information if your report is overly vague.
Thank you for reading.

Everyone, PLEASE drive safe!!! Yesterday at around 9:00 am I was driving down Monroe and saw a woman hit a biker lady with a trailer that had her child in it. The biker and her child got up off the ground, checked with the driver, the driver pulled over, and the biker lady and her kiddo walked over seemingly unhurt. I wasn’t able to stop because I had somewhere to be, but I was thankful that everyone seemed unhurt.
Today, I came across a 3 way accident on NW Harrison. I was able to stop this time and make sure everyone was okay. They had to take away one of the drivers in an ambulance. PLEASE BE SAFE AND ALERT OUT THERE!!!
Edit: Not long after making this post, I slid on wet pavement and almost got into an accident myself. I wasn’t thinking clearly after witnessing the aftermath of today’s accident, and I forgot that after it rains it makes the road slick. Thankfully, I didn’t hit anybody and I made it home safe.

Hey everyone,
I don't know if this the best way to go about this, but I'm worried about her and need to find some solution soon.
So, I have a stray cat who's been near my home for quite a few months. My roommate and I have called her "Princess," and I'm trying to find her a safe home before I move.
She's SUPER shy around new people, but she isn't aggressive. It took a few months of feeding her and slowly gaining her trust before she warmed up to me. Now she's incredibly sweet, purrs, rubs against me, and loves attention. She is still somewhat apprehensive around other people and mostly only approaches me.
I plan to take her to the Humane Society if I can't find someone who wants her, but I've been struggling to get her into a transport cage. I also don't have a vehicle, which makes things slightly more complicated.
Please let me know if you or someone you know might be interested in giving her a home. I begin moving tomorrow and won't be back for a few days, but I should be able to help get her around July 28 till August.

We're really excited to be performing in the brand new Arts Center Annex, which is an absolutely gorgeous space if you haven't seen it yet.
We also have a few other local performances coming up you can check out, The Majestic on August 1; Lumos Winery on August 9; and Tyee Winery on August 29. If you like to laugh a whole lot and then maybe cry a little, here's a great play for you!

We have the Monday Rage Thread where we rant about things that displease us and it was suggested that we also do the opposite. So here we are.
What is something good that happened to you this week?
What is something wonderful about Corvallis (and the greater Corvallis area)?

The rolling blackouts have to stop. They keep raising rates claiming it’s to improve infrastructure. We pay an insane amount of money for electricity to have multiple outages a day. If this keeps up, I will be looking at what it takes to start a class action. If one were to start, how many people here would sign on?

this heat is killing me and I worry about my kitties too. I’m in the middle of moving and have no money. if anyone has an AC I can borrow even just until we can get our own I would be so grateful

It’s warming up here in the valley, and lots of folks will be looking to float the Willamette to cool down .
If you’re one of them, BE CAREFUL, prepared, and be aware!
Two people have drowned this week floating the regularly easygoing river, and a personal friend spent over half an hour up to her shoulders in fast water, clinging to a snag and waiting for search and rescue. The water level is unseasonably low and there are plenty of snags to be hung up on! Wear your life vest and maintain situational awareness.
Stay safe out there!

I live near campus and sometimes my power goes out every few weeks for about a minute and turns back on
But it's happened 3 times in the last 24 hours and it's fucking with my projects
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there anything that can be done about it or do I just suffer?

Anyone else finding it a complete clusterfuck? My old log in doesn't work and when I follow the steps they provide to establish a new log in, the system says it doesn't recognize my SSN, name and date of birth. So, I'mm pretty much locked out of all my accounts.

I noticed the haze in the air this morning. It's likely from the fires north of Bend.
This is a good resource to monitor wildfire smoke and air quality readings until the rains come back:

My 21st birthday is coming up on August 3rd, a Monday, and I'm not entirely sure if there's a "best" place to go that day. I definitely plan on going out on different days when there's more going on in town, but I wanna still have fun the day of my birthday. Thanks in advance :)

This post is likely being repeatedly reported/ targeted by toddlers because it's a hot topic similar to an Abortion in the sense that: It's a valid option that should be available to any and everyone regardless of your situation, yet clearly some people believe that, because THEY would not PERSONALLY chose to use said option... It should simply not be presented to anyone else as an option either. Ever.
And to those of you I say:
#GROW TF UP!
🙄
Now. Let me try this one more time.

ICE has once again, shot and killed two innocent people in the past week. This year so far, 22 people have died in ICE custody under circumstances that have not been disclosed. Join the Indivisible Benton County Visibility Brigade and Corvallis Singing Resistance on Wednesday, July 22 from 5:00 to 6:00 PM for a memorial vigil to call attention to the people being killed by ICE.
On Tuesday, July 7, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Houston, Texas. On Monday, July 13, Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Biddeford, Maine.
These are not the actions of normal law enforcement.
It is what happens when poorly trained paramilitary thugs are allowed to violate our civil rights and use violence without any sort of accountability.
First they came for the immigrants
And I did not speak out
Because I was not an immigrant.
And...we are going to oppose the terrorism and murders of ICE now
because we've read this poem before
and know how it ended.
Join us on Wednesday, July 22 at 5:00 for a memorial vigil to call attention to the ICE murders and a call to end the reign of terror of ICE.
There will also be a food drive so anyone can donate food items for the local food banks.
Nonviolence Commitment:
A core principle behind all Indivisible Benton County events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

Hey there, this is an extremely embarrassing thing to ask, but I've been here a year or two and I've seen a similar post in the past, but I haven't been able to join any groups or meet any friends or anything of the sort. I'm profoundly shy, so just walking up to people without some prior arrangement (an event or group or whatever) is absolutely terrifying.
I've tried looking and I haven't been able to find anything (for instance, Meetup is completely dead here), so does anyone have any recommendations as to where I might be able to meet people and make friends? Groups, events, etc? Ideally, something where it'd be hard to show up and just keep to myself, because that's the thing I'm trying to avoid doing.
If it helps, I'm up for pretty much anything from book clubs to bar hopping. Some of the things I already do that might be good for social things is nature walks and TTRPGs.

Looking to replace a current surround sound system that is already in place. Any recommendations appreciated

Right.
That's nice. 👍
What's the problem guys? Don't like competition with your darling Google Gods? Don't like people sharing valid information on your sub? Don't like women in general? What's the deal baby squeal? Why all the fuss?

Hi everyone, i am relocating from St Louis to Corvallis (August), and I'm having a hard time getting eyes on my resume.
Ive applied to a few positions at Samaritan Health Center, Corvallis Clinic, and a few others; but it seems as if nobody is actually looking at my application, as i am receiving rejection emails within 48 hours
I have a lengthly history working in healthcare, from direct support to admission coordination.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
I would appreciate any feedback, or advice on how to break into the industry in this town
