Want to ask about a personal health issue or post your tongue pictures? Read this first!
It's very common on /r/ChineseMedicine that people ask our community what Chinese Medicine disorders they might have, either by posting their tongue pictures or simply describing their health issues. This is a small guideline on what information to include in those posts so as to get the most from our community.
If you post your tongue picture
Always remember to respect rule 5 and tag you tongues pictures as NSFW and spoiler. Some people just don't want to see close ups of your tongue so make it a choice!
Your tongue should be well lit (preferably with natural light), high resolution, and in focus. We should be able to see the entire tongue body, from tip to root. You should not have had coffee or other strongly colored beverages or foods before taking tongue pictures. If you brush your tongue, please refrain from doing so before taking tongue pictures.
In all cases
Try to include other health information that are relevant in Chinese Medicine diagnosis, particularly around these points (obviously only share what you're comfortable sharing):
- Temperature (any aversion to heat or to cold? Do you often have fever?)
- Sweat (do you sweat too much?)
- Thirst (do you often feel unusually thirsty, or the contrary? Do you feel more attracted to hot or cold drinks?)
- Appetite (good or bad?)
- Digestion (digestion problems?)
- Bowels (frequency, texture, color, any pain?)
- Urination (frequency, color, any pain?)
- Pain anywhere in the body (headache, chest, abdominal, etc.?)
- EENT (eye, ear, nose, and throat --> any issue with any of them?)
- Mood (often angry, sad, anxious, scared, etc?)
- Sleep (any issues?)
- Energy (low/high?)
- Skin (any skin issues? How does your skin look: bright, lusterless, pale, moist, dry, etc.?)
- If a woman: menstruation, leukorrhea, number of children, childbirth, miscarriages and abortions
- Any history of old diseases as well as your view on health issues you might currently have

Michigan holistic doctors
Is there anyone from Michigan that can point me in the direction of any good holistic doctors that can help guide with cancer protocols? We would like to incorporate some nontraditional medicine with traditional. Like supplements, diet, etc. Please post or dm me any info you have. Thank you!

Patient inquiry Purging of skin
Hi, I recently started visiting a TCM doctor for hormonal issues (irregular periods, skin and hair issues). My skin wasn’t too bad before but when I started taking her medication, I’ve noticed a flare up in my cystic acne. I’m getting new big cysts every other day…. I’m almost done with a month’s worth of medicine. Is anyone able to advise?

Opinion about the meridian app Tsubook
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hello everybody! I am one of the founder of Tsubook! We started as an app to reference meridians in 3D for Shiatsu massage and we then moved to all TCM-related practices. The free part (the 14 main meridians) can be consulted by anybody but the app does not "teach" TCM, it's more a material for schools and professionals. I would like honest opinions about our work and how we can even more adapt it to larger TCM practice. Have a great day! https://www.tsubook.net/

I’m curious what herbs she was given and the intended effect.

Mucus/ Clearing of throat
Hi everyone,
I’ve been dealing with constant throat clearing and mucus for a long time. It feels like there’s always something stuck in my throat, and I’m constantly clearing it throughout the day. I don’t smoke, and I’m looking into Traditional Chinese Medicine to see if there are herbs or formulas that might help.
If you’ve seen a TCM practitioner for this, what diagnosis did they give you (for example, phlegm-dampness, reflux, etc.), and what herbs or formulas helped?
Please any advice is appreciated

Laughing 10 minutes a day sounds silly but I tried it anyway
I read somewhere that prolonged stress, anxiety, and emotional suppression can throw the whole body out of balance. Not in a "this herb cures X" way, but in a general sense—constant tension isn't great for anyone.
One of the suggestions was to laugh for about 10 minutes a day. Not fake laughing, but finding something genuinely funny.
So I started watching standup clips during lunch or before bed. Not every day, but most days.
Does it fix everything? No.
Does it make me feel lighter and less stressed? Actually yeah, a bit.
The broader point I took away: mental state affects physical state. When I'm constantly anxious or irritated, everything feels worse—digestion, sleep, energy. Making space for things that relax me (laughter, walks, not doomscrolling) has helped.
I know it sounds basic, but sometimes basic works.
What's something small that genuinely lifts your mood?

Patient inquiry Increased nerve pain
Okay so, I 18 FM have been going to acupuncture for a while. I have chronic nerve pain due to a genetic disorder. For a while acupuncture has been helping, even doing electro acupuncture on like my legs and arms and head. But last session my acupuncturist did both my feet and my knees... And he slow put the electricity to the highest setting and I could not feel it. We let it run for the whole session and I just could not feel it. Mind you, the needles that were also hooked up to electricity on my hands and my shoulders and my elbows I could feel perfectly fine. Just not my legs/ feet. During the session, my eye started twitching really badly, like it was syncing up to the electricity in my shoulder. As well as that my eyes burned for some reason. It has never done that before. But the main reason that I'm here is that usually I do a session once a week. And that one session lasts me through the whole week. But since that last session, I've just been feeling nerve pain everywhere. Which is pretty normal for me except it's just been worse. Like the other day two of my fingers were just so tense and like hurting for no reason. Like I hadn't even done anything with that hand all day. And the nerve pain just keeps jumping everywhere. From my feet to my hands to my back to my face, to my elbows... Just sporadically and feels like sharp needles. Is this normal? I mean I've gone to the acupuncture for like 2 months now but, it doesn't feel like it is. And like what do I do? I literally like just went so it'll be almost a week until my next session, any tips of what to do until then?

How do I know if the Chinese Medicine Doctor I choose is reliable?
Are there some signs I should know when I choose one? Also, is this possible to be online? What's the protocol/treatments besides food and herbs? Thanks, I'm really interested!

Recommendations for a solid thyroid nodule caused by damp heat, phlegm, qi stagnation, and blood stasis.
It is solid with some microcalcifications and I’m trying to find what would be best to break down the solid structure and microcalcifications.
Thankyou!!!

How Can TCM Support ADHD Treatment?
Hi,
I have found that lisdexamfetamine helps me a lot with ADHD, (mostly the inattentive type ADD). My ability to focus is on a completely different level when I take it!
How does TCM understand this problem?
I am mainly interested in two questions:
- Is it possible to get a similar effect with Chinese herbs or other TCM methods?
- How serious are the possible side effects of lisdexamfetamine, and can TCM help reduce them?
Thank you!

How do I use Chinese medicine cooker?
galleryI found this electric Chinese medicine cooker pot in the thrift store and I had to rescue it, when I plug it in and turn the switch to 1, the red light heats up and it begins to heat, however when I switch it to 2 no light comes on (even after waiting a few minutes) and it doesn’t seem to be heating (unless it’s very very slightly warm).
Does anyone have one of these? Do we think it’s faulty or am I just using it wrong?
I have ensured for both tests that there is enough water covering the heating element.
Thank you!

Chiro and herbalist School?
Hello I am trying to see if there are any schools that teach the old traditional ancient ways of chiropractic and herbalism? I am looking for a place preferably in Asia, away from any modern Western ideology

NCBAHM Herbal board exam
I’m a post grad acu student in limbo just working on licensure in FL. I’ve taken & passed the 3 other board exams (foundations, acu, bio) on first attempt with no issue just with my month or so of reviewing each. Those exams focused on understanding and reasoning, imo. The herbology exam focuses on memorization (in my view) & I am struggling BAD. I’ve already taken it once & failed miserably. Basically felt like I was just guessing on half the test. I’ve done TCMTests for all of the boards & found it to be useless for herbs. I’ve studied countless quizlets. Made countless “high-yield” sheets. Watched every single one of Nick Duchnowski’s herb videos & taken notes (highly recommend as a starting point), I bought hb Kim herb module (ABSOLUTELY HATED THAT. Jumped around so much I absorbed nothing. Liked the worksheets though). I am really good at learning, rationalizing, understanding. I AM TERRIBLE AT MEMORIZING & RECALL. I tried to just learn Categories the first time & that didn’t help at all. I’m just at my wits end about how to memorize or even just cram this stuff into my brain for this exam. I know in practice I won’t need this level of rote recall but I just can’t seem to get it even just for one day of exam regurgitation. Any tips for cramming this info in for a weak memory person? I need systems, clinical reasoning, understanding foundations and building rationale around it. I can’t rote recall a flash card. 😭 please help. 🙏🏼 Lol

8 Constitution Korean method
It seems so interesting that if your Wood is strong then your Metal is weak, and if your Earth is strong then your Water is weak. And the diet is the most important factor. So Woods can have red meat and no veggies and Metal needs Fish and Veggies. Anyone have more info on this? So far I've only listened to this podcast and I would like to learn more.
ETA would like to learn more on how to find out what type I am as I don't have any practitioners nearby in New Zealand. is there like a quiz or questionnaire I can take?
