Mount Pleasant Ohio man drowns off Isle of Palms while saving stepchild

My question would be why are they swimming near Breach Inlet. There are plenty of signs telling you not to. Was there nobody locals there just enjoying the beach that could have warned him about swimming there, especially a child?

Goose Creek It’s so lonely here.

Where is everyone??? I just moved here from Arizona, 6 states away from all of my friends and family, and there’s literally nobody my age here. I just turned 18, 3 months ago and got a job at one of the shipbuilding companies over here so I thought it would be a cool idea to move out of state and start something on my own. I quite literally haven’t seen anyone under the age of 30 here 🫩. I have my own nice apartment in a nice looking part of town but I don’t think I’m ever going to be able to make friends with people my age, especially since I’m going be working in a shipyard and I’m completely new to this place. Are there any places where I’ll at least have a chance at making friends with people my age?? I don’t really party or rave but I’ll go anywhere to at least have a chance at making friends here. There’s a lot of cool squirrels here which is pretty nice though.

Charleston Confirming a previous post!

hello all! I saw a post on here about the cafe blūm, downtown. I also worked there VERY recently and can confirm that all of it is true. coming on here to confirm that as well as warn people about their reviews.

anytime anyone writes a review under 4 stars, they have their family post/repost reviews. I left am honest review about my experience and was attacked, and then 4+ reviews were re posted. “Maria Fernandez, Lazaro Paez, Premier Vacation Rentals” and anyone with the last name Paez are all them and their family… just FYI.

Movie Theater Rentals

Curious if there is a group in Charleston or people here that would be interested in renting out a theater maybe once a month to screen old movies you don’t get to see on the big screen anymore.

I know there are a lot of smaller theaters in big cities that screen older movies all the time and I wish we had that here but never see much. The occasional movie anniversary.

Not sure how I’d even go about starting that/collecting the money each month but if we could somehow do it through the theater I think it would be a pretty fun thing.

I really want to order a porch swing bed for my new house in Charleston. Are there any local companies or vendors you recommend? I always prefer to buy local even if it might be a bit pricier.

Why are there so few men and so many gorgeous women in Charleston. And are the two somehow connected?

I found another post here asking basically the same thing, and there were plenty of comments, but I still feel like conversation didn't roll out fully.

Important note: I am a women :D becuase the comments on another post were suggesting that such an observation could possibly do only an uber driver or some shallow male.

Especially now in summer basically the whole city is like a big marshmallows box. My head turns 360 degrees and i feel like I am drunk in love because of that amount of beauty. Ofc it also sets the bar high for me and i am always inspired to also dress up.

another note - english isn't my first language so i hope i am as smooth as i can be

I often think I am on a Set of Legally Blonde Movie or maybe a giant women’s college party where the campus somehow expanded to include the entire city.

Another observation is that there is not so many males :D and I was wondering is it connected? I have 2 thoughts about it. Like is it maybe more safe to dress up, wear high heels pared with short skirts, look beautifull and flirtatious when yu feel genuinely safe and appreciated? or is it a high competition? Men would say that girls dress up to impress them. But I wouldn't say that this is the reason for me to throw a fit. I am more thinking of how i would feel myself and dressing up ofc gives me a joy boost.

Charleston Co. puts half-penny transportation tax on 2026 ballot

Since it passed and is going on the ballet in November, any thoughts on the probably final proposal?

In case you do not know, the Transportation Sales Tax(TST) is a 0.5% sales tax added onto any qualified purchase in the county, which is used to fund a number of transportation/road and greenbelt projects, as well as, for instance, providing a third of CARTA's funding. This will go to the voters in November as an extension to the current TST, meaning if it is passed, the sales tax rate will stay the same and the funding will be used on the projects specified, and if it fails, the sales tax rate will fall 0.5% in 2027 when the current TST expires.

I do appreciate the fact that they decided to include: "All featured projects, intersection projects, pavement management projects and all other projects shall consider the inclusion of bicycle, pedestrian and public transit access in the design process, as contextually appropriate."

I think that while I would want more money going to these projects, I think the balance is about to be expected.

For info on the covered projects, exact amounts, and more info: TST Webpage

Downtown Charleston Relocation

Hey everyone. I'm (25M) moving to Charleston for work and will be making around 95k. Is living in downtown worth the extra cost? Is there a certain location you recommend avoiding? I want to be able to live in a walkable and lively location while maintaining a good distance from the beach.

If you guys see smoke over the bridge in the Mt. Pleasant area tomorrow

This was a weather statement we got near the forest today.

* IMPACTS...The Horse Island Wildfire burning in the Francis Marion National Forest near Shulerville will likely produce widespread dense smoke tonight. The smoke may reduce visibility to 1 mile or less across portions of Berkeley County tonight. Watch for dense smoke on area roadways, especially on Highway 45 between Jamestown and the Charleston County line.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.

garbage services missing our house

Hi - I just moved back downtown after some time off peninsula and have found that Waste Services tends to miss our bins on pick up days. Some weeks, our trash and recycle will be collected and other weeks it won't. This was not an issue at my last rental so just a little frustrated and confused.

I try to place our bins in an obvious spot (usually blocking our driveway, pretty much in the street, so it cannot be missed) but they somehow missed us again today. I also put the bins out the night before. I called Waste Management today but have not heard back.

We live on a very busy street so I'm sure they're trying to hustle and get out of everyone elses way ASAP.

Any advice or tips?

West Ashley Drum Lessons?

Any recommendations for drum lessons for my 12 year old son? Ideally in West Ashley but not a must.

He took some private lessons a year or so ago but his instructor isn’t around anymore. He really want to get back into it with a teacher.

Hi, I'm moving away this Friday and still have some large stuff that hasn't sold on FB marketplace. I'd prefer not to dump this stuff if it could be valuable for someone else. Any recs on a donation center or other service that could pick it up for me? Willing to a pay a reasonable amount for the service

Charleston New here

New to the Summerville area. I’m from South ga #godawgs. Looking to take my wife out downtown Charleston. Wanted to go to halls but it’s booked for the weekend. Right now I got a reservation at the Summerville halls. Anything downtown good as halls? I hear halls is the top steakhouse here but never tried them.
